Thanks to high demand from residents who want to attend Wilton’s CT State Legislative Candidate Forum on Tuesday, Oct. 16, organizers have decided to move the event to a larger venue to accommodate a larger audience. The candidate forum that was originally scheduled to be held at the Wilton Library will now take place at the Middlebrook School Auditorium (131 School Rd., Wilton) from 7-8:30 p.m..

The forum will be an opportunity for voters to hear from candidates running for State Senate District 26 and House Districts 125 and 143 in a modified town hall-style format. All six candidates who are running–Toni Boucher (R) and Will Haskell (D) in the race for Senate District 26; Tom O’Dea (R) and Ross Tartell (D) in the race for House District 125; and Gail Lavielle (R) and Stephanie Thomas (D) in the race for House District 143–are slated to attend.

The Candidate Forum is being co-sponsored by GOOD Morning Wilton, together with the Wilton League of Women Voters, Wilton Library, and the Norwalk League of Women Voters, along with student partners from the Wilton High School Model Congress.

Jean Rabinow, a member of the Steering Committee of the League of Women Voters of the Bridgeport Area, and director of outreach for the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, will moderate the evening’s event.

The event is free and open to the public. Doors to Middlebrook Auditorium will open at 6:30 p.m.. Pre-registration to attend is no longer necessary with the change in venue; however, anyone who did preregister will be able to take a seat in the “reserved” seating area until 6:45 pm, after which time will open everyone. Waitlists requests are no longer valid. The forum will begin promptly at 7 p.m. and entry to the auditorium will be limited after that time.

The forum will allow for written questions from the audience. In addition, the WLWV is soliciting questions ahead of the forum via email at wiltonlwvcandidateforum@gmail.com from now until midnight Oct. 13. There are some important guidelines for submitting questions via email:

  • Anonymous emails will not be accepted. The sender must include his or her name. Only one question can be submitted per email.
  • All questions should be applicable to all candidates and pertinent to state issues. Questions targeted at one specific candidate–for example, ‘Candidate Jane Doe, why did you vote for/against xyz?”–will not be accepted.
  • All questions will be screened for legibility and duplication, and may be combined or condensed.

GOOD Morning Wilton has arranged to live-stream the forum online. It can be viewed live in real time via the link at www.livecloudtv.com/2018WiltonCTElectionForum. In addition, the event will be recorded for re-broadcast on GOODMorningWilton.com and government access as available.

Anyone with questions about the forum can contact Karen R. Silverberg at 914.649.9844 or via email.
