Lebowitz’s groundbreaking book and ways parents and caregivers can help alleviate their children’s anxiety by changing the way they themselves respond to their children’s symptoms. \nBreaking Free of Child Anxiety and OCD: A Scientifically Proven Program for Parents by Eli R. Lebowitz\, PhD is the first and only book to provide a completely parent-based treatment program for child and adolescent anxiety.  Parents will learn how to alleviate their children’s anxiety by changing the way they themselves respond to their children’s behavior. After you register\, you will receive a confirmation\, Zoom session ID Code\, and instructions about how to submit questions. \nAbout the book:  \nThis book chronicles the revolutionary activities of Harriet Tubman\, Frances Seward\, and Martha Wright: three unlikely collaborators in the quest for abolition and women’s rights\, as told by the author of the New York Times bestseller Nothing Daunted. \nFrom the intimate perspective of three friends and neighbors in mid-nineteenth century Auburn\, New York—the “agitators” of the title—acclaimed author Dorothy Wickenden tells the fascinating and crucially American stories of abolition\, the Underground Railroad\, the early women’s rights movement\, and the Civil War. Ms. Wickenden will join the Wilton Historical Society’s Booked for Lunch series on Zoom on Thursday\, June 3\, 12:30 – 1:30. \nHarriet Tubman—no-nonsense\, funny\, uncannily prescient\, and strategically brilliant—was one of the most important conductors on the underground railroad and hid the enslaved men\, women\, and children she rescued in the basement kitchens of Martha Wright\, Quaker mother of seven\, and Frances Seward\, wife of Governor\, then-Senator\, then-Secretary of State William H. Seward. \nHarriet worked for the Union Army in South Carolina as a nurse and spy and took part in a river raid in which 750 enslaved people were freed from rice plantations. Martha\, a “dangerous woman” in the eyes of her neighbors and a harsh critic of Lincoln’s policy on slavery\, organized women’s rights and abolitionist conventions with Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Frances gave freedom seekers money and referrals and aided in their education. The most conventional of the three friends\, she hid her radicalism in public; behind the scenes\, she argued strenuously with her husband about the urgency of immediate abolition. \nMany of the most prominent figures in the history books—Lincoln\, Seward\, Daniel Webster\, Frederick Douglass\, Charles Sumner\, John Brown\, Harriet Beecher Stowe\, William Lloyd Garrison—are seen through the discerning eyes of the protagonists. We welcome one and all! \nThe topic of this session will be Free the Beaches: The Story of Ned Coll and the Battle for America’s Most Exclusive Shoreline by Andrew Kahrl \nThis is the story of our separate and unequal America in the making\, and one man’s fight against it. \n“In Free the Beaches\, Andrew Kahrl not only tells the remarkable story of activist Ned Coll. He also shows that on the Connecticut shore\, white liberalism and racial exclusion went hand in hand.” —Jason Sokol\, author of All Eyes Are Upon Us: Race and Politics from Boston to Brooklyn \nDuring the long\, hot summers of the late 1960s and 1970s\, one man began a campaign to open some of America’s most exclusive beaches to minorities and the urban poor. That man was anti-poverty activist and one-time presidential candidate Ned Coll of Connecticut\, a state that permitted public access to a mere seven miles of its 253-mile shoreline. Nearly all of the state’s coast was held privately\, for the most part by white\, wealthy residents. \nThis book is the first to tell the story of the controversial protester who gathered a band of determined African American mothers and children and challenged the racist\, exclusionary tactics of homeowners in a state synonymous with liberalism.
