DESCRIPTION:An authentic agricultural fair\, the Cannon Grange Ag Fair is the only fair of its kind in lower Fairfield County! Area residents are invited to exhibit a variety of baked goods and culinary arts\, homegrown vegetables\, fruit\, flowers\, hand crafts\, sewing & needlework\, photography\, small farm animals\, eggs and photography. \nThe Cannon Grange Fair recalls Wilton’s rural and agrarian past\, and provides an opportunity for children\, youth\, adults and families to enjoy the exhibits inside the historic Grange Hall and on its grounds located in the heart of Cannondale Village. Several state-level baking contests are available from the Association of CT Fairs with their Adult Baking\, Junior Baking and 2-Crust Apple Pie Contests. Both concessionaires and area Non-Profits will also show on the fair grounds. \nA new baking contest is being inaugurated in 2019 with the “Dave Barrett–Cannon Grange Perpetual Trophy” contest. Dave and his wife Joyce have been avid fair participants\, having won many baking contests in previous years. DESCRIPTION:A Fall Fashion Show kicks off the Wilton Woman’s Club new year on Monday\, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m.\, at the WEPCO complex (48 New Canaan Rd.). The fashion show event is free for all Wilton women\, current members\, and those interested in learning more or joining the club. \nRefreshments will be served\, and there will be plenty of time to meet new friends and mingle with old. \nMembers of the Woman’s Club will be modeling the latest fall style featuring clothes from local boutiques ‘B’ Chic\, Blue Star Bazaar\, Open House\, and Snappy Gator. On hand for hair touch-ups and makeup will be Janet Montalbano of Let’s Make Up Wilton. Attendees will be able to chat with Janet and other experts from the stores on the newest trends. \n“At Blue Star Bazaar we try to balance current trends with comfortable\, classic\, flattering styles that always work\,” says Megan Abrahamsen\, owner of Blue Star Bazaar. “Some of the must-have trends and pieces for this fall include animal prints (from leopard to reptile); cozy\, plush textures in pullovers and sweaters; long pleated skirts; and faux fur–from jackets to accessories.” \nOpen House has a different take on the season. “We are not tied to the current fashion trends. Instead\, we shop the market looking for pieces we know our customers will love\,” says the store’s Leslie Hueglin. “This season is all about comfort while still looking stylish. Basic bottoms paired with a new sweater or top will take you from the school pickup line to drinks with friends.” \n‘B’ Chic owner Erica Malhotra\, just celebrated 13 years in Wilton and the eighth year in a row her store was named “Best Jeans in Fairfield County\,” so naturally she’s excited for fall and it officially being jeans season.  “We carry styles that are effortlessly chic and comfortable. Big this season is the crop flare and the high-waist straight leg in a vintage wash–AKA the “Mom” jean. All of this culminates in the club’s Annual Fashion Show Fundraiser in April. Last year’s Spring Fundraiser raised $28\,000 for the Wilton Land Conservation Trust and their project\, Save 183 Ridgefield Road. \nCommunity Service chairs Suzy Curtice and Wendy Nadel will outline numerous ways club members can get involved. These include stocking the Wilton Social Services food pantry; serving seniors lunch at Ogden House; sorting donations at Person-to-Person Clothing Center in Darien; helping clients shop at the Person-to-Person food pantry in Norwalk; as well as preparing meals for delivery to homebound Wilton residents over the holidays. \nMoms and daughters can also find opportunities to volunteer together through the Woman’s Club Junior Leadership Program\, such as helping out with Minks to Sinks\, and assembling and delivering Thanksgiving and Holiday meals to Wilton seniors. \nMembership in the Wilton Woman’s Club offers many ways to give back to the community and help serve others in Wilton and the surrounding towns. SUMMARY:Live Girl Confidence Club at Trackside Teen Center
DESCRIPTION:In Partnership with LiveGirl\, Trackside Teen Center is once again offering the eight-week Confidence Club for girls in grades 6-8. \nTrackside is excited to once again partner with LiveGirl to offer our middle school girls one of our most successful programs. Confidence Club provides girls in Grades 6-8 with a positive adult role model and creates a safe space for girls to develop self-esteem and social/emotional intelligence. \nConfidence Club is a facilitated discussion group that is customized for each group of girls to create a brave space for them to build skills and explore topics that are meaningful in their lives. \nMeeting as a small group with a professional mentor on a weekly basis\, the curriculum-based program builds social-emotional intelligence and self-esteem\, the building blocks of a confident leader. Amid the pandemic\, connection and confidence are more important than ever. Our Confidence Clubs allow girls to foster connections and develop social-emotional intelligence and resiliency. We have also added a racial justice unit to our Confidence Clubs this fall. \nAs each program is customized to the girls participating\, we’ve found that many also benefit by participating more than once during their middle school years. \nRegistration is required and opens Sept. 26 for Trackside’s Basic Members (contact us for membership support).
