DESCRIPTION:Wilton’s Parks and Recreation Department is kicking off summer and showing off a refurbished Merwin Meadows by throwing a party for all Wilton residents. On Saturday\, June 16\, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, Parks & Rec is hosting “Wilton Day at Merwin Meadows” and all residents are invited for free fun and festivities. With proof of Wilton residency\, attendees will be able to enjoy free food and activities for all ages. Among the fun events and features will be face painting\, music\, corn hole\, beach volleyball\, inflatables (duel-sport combo bounce house\, climbing area and slide)\, sack races\, fencing demonstrations\, playground and swings\, and of course swimming in the Merwin pond. In addition\, Parks & Rec has a new tug-of-war rope that stretches across the entire pond and teams will compete from opposite shores; the winning team is the team that pulls its entire opposing team into the pond.

Weir Farm National Historic Site\, the only national park dedicated to American painting\, is a proud member of Connecticut’s Historic Gardens\, an organization committed to preserving and promoting historic gardens throughout Connecticut. \nFormer Weir Farm artist-in-residence Bonnie Beers Johnson won this year’s annual Historic Gardens Day Poster Art Contest and will be at the park with her original work. Come view the winning painting\, Weir Farm Peonies\, and learn more about the stunning historic gardens that have been inspiring artists for over a century. Park staff and Garden Gang volunteers will offer short informal talks in the Sunken Garden and Secret Garden about each garden’s history\, flowers\, restoration\, and ongoing preservation. \nIn addition to the talks\, visitors can spend an afternoon painting en plain air in the gardens using the park’s free-to-use watercolor supplies. Instructor Bobbi Eike Mullen will be available to provide tips on watercolor painting. Join us for a fun-filled Historic Gardens Day!

SUMMARY:Hillside Cemetery Walking Tour with Bob Russell\, to Celebrate 200th Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:Former first selectman and Wilton historian Bob Russell will lead a walking tour of Hillside Cemetery on Saturday\, June 30 at 11 a.m.. He will give a brief history of Hillside and discuss notable people buried there. \nThe cemetery has been in existence for 200 years and has a rich history. A number of Revolutionary War veterans and Civil War veterans are buried in the oldest section. Other established Wilton family names dating back to the early 1900’s–like Olmsted\, Middlebrook and Comstock–are easily recognized. And\, of course\, Hillside Cemetery remains the destination of the annual Memorial Day Parade\, where ceremonies are held each May at a monument dedicated to 10 Wilton men who died in World War II.

DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Food Truck Festival being planned by Trackside Teen Center is fast becoming a much-anticipated new summer event. To date\, 22 trucks have committed to attend. Local favorites like College Creamery\, the Wilton Pizza Truck and the Wilton Deli truck will be in attendance\, and will be supplemented by a variety of terrific specialty food trucks for the August 12 event (scheduled from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.). \nAmong the unique fare-on-wheels that will be part of the festival\, there will be The Local Meatball\, Szabo Seafood\, HAPA serving an Asian burger\, a falafel truck\, Taste of Grill Mediterranean food\, DrewbaQ barbecue\, The Meltmobile\, Carmela’s Italian Kitchen serving Italian specialties\, Pierogis on Wheels\, and many more. Bumski’s Craft Beer and Wine will be ready to serve all day. \nThe musical performances for the day are being scheduled by festival music director Joni Wallace and will feature local teen and adult musicians. The kids will enjoy bounce houses and a water slide. Crafts and vendors will be on hand selling specialized products and gifts.

DESCRIPTION:Not only is Wilton home to a new non-profit organization to promote the performing arts\, but the town will also play host to the group’s first annual Family Day Free Concert\, on Sunday\, Aug. 26\, at Merwin Meadows. \nEven more exciting? Headlining the concert is Bakithi Kumalo\, who plays bass for Paul Simon. Kumalo was the original bassist on Simon’s Graceland album\, and is taking a short break from Simon’s current tour to bring his all-star “Graceland Experience” band to Wilton. \nThe concert is a kick off for the Connecticut Friends of the Performing Arts\, a new organization based in Wilton that is committed to seeing the performing arts thrive in the community. The CTFOPA’s stated mission is to: \n\nPromote the outdoor performing arts as well as the development of a performing arts facility at Schenck’s Island.\nProvide funding for merit-based scholarships to be awarded annually to graduating high school students pursuing the performing arts in college\nProvide a forum for other non-profits in Wilton to create awareness\, drive membership\, participation and support for their activities\nPromote local merchants and stimulate business activity\nEnhance the image and reputation of Wilton as a fun place to visit and live as well as a recognized show stop between NYC and Boston for performing artists\n\nOther acts performing at the concert are family-friendly Jay and Ray at 3 p.m.\, followed at 4:15 p.m. by Idle Kyle\, and then Graceland Experience takes the stage at 5:30 p.m.. \nFor more information\, visit the CT Friends of the Performing Arts website.

DESCRIPTION:The Kiwanis Club of Wilton will have its third annual Oktoberfest at the Wilton YMCA. This is a fun-filled family event with German bier and wine\, bratwurst or chicken\, sauerkraut\, German potato salad\, hot dogs\, french fries and cold soda for the kids. \nMusic will be provided by the Alpine Squeeze who will play all types of music throughout the evening\, with Hans filling in with his accordion during breaks to keep people up and dancing. The event goes on rain or shine\, but seating will be in the pavilion or under tents\, so weather is not an issue. \nEntrance fee will be $35 for adults and will include a Bratwurst or Chicken platter with Bier or wine. Children under 21 will be $6\, and will have a hot dog\, French fries\, soda or water. Advance adult tickets can be purchased for $26 by going to www.WiltonOktoberfest.org.

DESCRIPTION:Tickets for Woodcock Nature Center‘s popular Wreath Festival fundraiser go on sale Sunday\, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m.! \nTickets will sell-out quickly! Gather your groups\, read our event details closely and plan accordingly. For more information\, visit our event page. \nThe popular event pairs decorating a 22” balsam wreath using unique materials with relaxing by a roaring fire among friends in Woodcock’s picturesque pavilion. The festival welcomes 1\,000 guests\, most of them women\, and raises over $75\,000 for the nature center’s programs in environmental education. \nWoodcock offers 10 nights of “Celebrate & Decorate” evening wreath decorating and festivities with two decorating sessions each night from 6:30-8:15 p.m. or 8:30-10:15 p.m. between Nov. 26-30 and Dec. 3-7. Guests are invited to gather a group of friends\, come with a buddy or as a couple for 1.5 hours of decorating\, preceded or followed by socializing in the nature center’s warm and cozy pavilion. \nNEW this year is a daytime “Celebrate & Decorate” experience held only on Thursday\, Dec. 6 from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.. All Wreath Festival attendees should plan to bring their own food and drink for the celebrating portion of the events. \nFamilies are welcome at a “Family Fun” open house wreath decorating event on Saturday\, Dec. 8 between 10 a.m.-4 p.m.\, which includes hot cocoa and cookies and the opportunity to make a wreath with family members of all ages. \nA fundraising raffle will be held during all events and offers chances to win wonderful prizes including unique Woodcock experiences such as birthday parties\, camp weeks and more\, all in support of Woodcock Nature Center. \nAll dates (with the exception of the “Family Fun” day) are 21 and over. Now\, the Wilton-based CT Friends of the Performing Arts is bringing it back for the 2nd Annual Family Day Free Concert in Merwin Meadows on Sunday\, Sept. 8. \nGates open at 4 p.m.\, and at 4:30 p.m. the first musicians–the Paul Green School of Rock—will play\, followed at 5 p.m. by Paul Simon‘s bassist\, Bakithi Kumalo\, and Jay & Ray\, a local children and family music duo (with concert organizer Ray Bryant). \nAt 6 p.m. headliner Pete Francis takes the stage. Francis is a songwriter\, producer and multi-instrumentalist. In 1995\, he founded the band Dispatch\, who became the first ever independent band to sell out Madison Square Garden. They went on to tour through other major venues across the country\, including Red Rocks\, TD Garden\, and The Greek Theaters in both San Francisco and LA. Over the course of their career\, they have also brought their live show to audiences in Europe and Australia.

DESCRIPTION:The Boy Scouts of Wilton Troop 125 and members of the American Legion invite all community members to join them honoring the Wilton veterans\, both living & deceased\, at the War Memorial near Wilton Town Center. There will be brief remarks from First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice and our State Representatives. \nAfter a brief ceremony at the War Memorial the community is invited to join the Boy Scouts in laying wreaths at the headstones of many veterans at Hillside Cemetery. \nBoy Scout Troop 125 wishes everyone Happy Holidays and a Joyous 2020!

SUMMARY:Wilton Menorah Lighting on the Town Green
DESCRIPTION:The Menorah Lighting to usher in Hanukkah in Wilton takes place this Sunday\, Dec. 22 at 5 p.m. on Wilton Center’s Town Green. Hosted by The Schneerson Center of CT and led by Rabbi Levi Stone\, the lighting takes place on the first night of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah\, which begins that evening and ends on Dec. 30. \nThe public is invited to join Wilton officials as the menorah is lit. The event will feature live holiday music\, donuts\, hot potato latkes\, dreidels and other holiday giveaways. These family friendly events are geared to all ages. \nHanukkah\, the festival of lights\, celebrates the victory of the Maccabees over the Greek Syrian oppressors in the land of Israel in 160 BCE and the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem with the lighting of the Menorah. Although they had only one day’s supply of olive oil\, it miraculously lasted eight full days until new oil was obtained. The Menorah is a symbol of hope and freedom. Hanukkah is celebrated for eight consecutive days with the lighting of one candle the first night and adding an additional light each night until all eight are lit.  \nFor more information call 203.635.4118 or visit the Schneerson Center website.

DESCRIPTION:Nine area artists will be showcased in Wilton Library’s first art exhibition of the new year\, “Winter Interlude.” Wilton artists are Dawn Dahl\, Gini Fischer\, Dorothy Hyde\, Trish Nelson\, Rama Ramaswami\, and Robert Tortorella. Other Artists include Frank Bordonaro\, Norwalk; Bobbi Eike Mullen\, Weston/Georgetown; and Dick Rauh\, Westport (formerly Wilton). Their works represent a wide variety of styles\, media and subject matter choices. \nReception free and open to the public. Exhibition runs through January 30\, 2020.  A majority of the works will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library.
