Together\, they have created an opportunity for families to venture outside\, explore nature\, listen to stories\, and make an upcycled craft. SUMMARY:Rise Against Hunger Meals-packaging Event
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers Needed to ‘Rise Against Hunger’ for Wilton’s Largest Community Meal Packaging Event \nSince 2011 friends\, neighbors and family across the Wilton area have been gathering on the third Saturday of October to package meals for Rise Against Hunger. It’s the largest single-day Rise Against Hunger volunteer event in New England. Last year more than 600 volunteers packaged 137\,000 meals. To date\, over 1.5 million meals have been sent to otherwise starving children around the world. \nThis year’s event — as always\, sponsored by the Wilton Interfaith Action Committee (WI-ACT) — is on Saturday\, Oct. 19. Organizers once again have set a food packaging goal of 135\,000 individual\, highly nutritious meals packaged in one day — enough to feed 400 malnourished children for an entire year wherever the need is greatest. \nWords can hardly do justice to this joyous volunteer experience\, but so many past participants say taking part is one of the most uplifting and meaningful things they’ve ever done. More than 100 people in a room work together while doing something that will literally save lives — creating life-sustaining meal packages — is soul-sustaining for everyone who volunteers. Community members of all ages work side-by-side to do incredible good. \nThis event depends on two essential factors: the purchase of bulk ingredients for the meals and volunteers to package them. Many generous donations have been made by congregations\, businesses\, and individuals to purchase the ingredients. As in the past\, along with Wilton faith institutions\, ASML and the Wilton Kiwanis Club are leading the way for the corporate and nonprofit levels. As an added treat\, RISE Doughnuts will once again provide doughnuts for volunteers after their shifts. \nTo succeed Wi-Act needs community members’ support. Donations can still be sent to Wi-Act Treasurer\, 36 New Canaan Rd.\, Wilton\, CT 06897. But the primary focus now is seeking volunteers. \n“From 7 years old on up\, all are welcome to join us for this wonderful experience\, either alone or with your whole family\, including grandparents\,” Wi-Act Chair Steve Hudspeth said. \nThe event is held at WEPCO (36 New Canaan Rd\,) and volunteers can sign up online for two-hour shifts\, starting at 9-11 a.m.\, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.\, 1-3 p.m.\, and 3-5 p.m.

The fall migration bird walk explores Wilton Land Trust’s Schenck’s Island river walk. Together\, explore this birding hot spot that offers diverse habitats\, including open fields\, woodlands\, edges\, and swamps. \nRain or shine\, Bear leads a leisurely two-hour walk\, pointing out various bird species\, defining calls\, explaining behaviors\, and answering questions. Whether you are a seasoned birder or new to birdwatching\, join in for an exciting adventure to witness the beauty of migrating birds in Wilton. \nGrab your binoculars\, water bottles\, supportive shoes\, tick and bug repellant\, and cameras\, and join us for a morning of adventure\, exercise\, fresh air\, and learning. Please leave your furry friends at home so any wildlife isn’t scared off. \nParticipants have the chance to see and hear a diverse assortment of Neotropic migrants (returning south from their summer grounds) including Indigo Bunting\, Baltimore Oriole\, Scarlet Tanager\, Rose-breasted Grosbeak\, Eastern Kingbird\, Flycatchers\, Vireos\, and many Warbler species including Yellow\, Blue-winged\, Northern Paula\, Black and White\, and American Redstart to name but a few. And if we keep our eyes to the sky\, we should hopefully see Wilton’s returning nesting pair of Osprey that nested for the first time in the Wilton Town Center in 2023! \nBear has been birding for over 30 years\, leading domestic and international trips for CT Audubon and other nature-based organizations. Many of these birds are able to be rehabilitated and returned home to the wild\, which helps offset the human impact on our wildlife. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, July 20\, the Wilton Chamber of Commerce will host its 12th annual Wilton Street Fair and Sidewalk Sales from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wilton Center will be transformed into an exciting\, action packed\, bargain filled\, entertaining and delicious destination for residents and regional visitors. \nThe summer festival is proudly presented by ASML\, LaurelRock\, Fairfield County Bank\, Stamford Health\, and Caraluzzi’s Georgetown Market\, and with special participation from the Wilton Rotary Club to support  the numerous retailers\, restaurants\, businesses\, artisans and local organizations who pull out all the stops to showcase our community as a vibrant retail\, service and dining destination. \nIn addition to the shopping and dining opportunities featured during the day\, the Wilton Chamber of Commerce has lined up entertainment with music\, live performances\, and many new activities for the whole family and for our furry friends too! Attractions and activities will be centered around the gazebo highlighted by the “Touch-a-Truck” center sponsored by our community partner\, ASML and featuring vehicles including the Wilton Fire Department’s Engine 5 Ladder Truck\, a patrol car from the Wilton Police Department and a service vehicle from the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps. \n \nThe Wilton Library will also be hosting its summer book sale in the heart of the fair\, and make sure to check out the various interactive activities throughout Old Ridgefield Rd. that will include face-painting\, inflatable games\,  magician\, balloon characters\, family friendly activities\, street performers\, kid’s crafts\, live animal encounters and exhibits\, sand art\, plus treats galore and much\, much more! This event will surely delight and surprise our shoppers and attendees! \nThe Street Fair vendors and entertainment are all located along Old Ridgefield Rd. from the Village Market to the intersection of Godfrey Rd. including the Gazebo at the Town Green.
