SUMMARY:Wilton Library Presents Music for Youth’s Emerging Artists Concert Featuring Award-Winning Cellist Sydney Lee
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Wilton Library for Music for Youth’s Emerging Artists concert featuring award-winning cellist Sydney Lee. This program celebrates the lyrical intimacy and rich harmonic language of French music from the late Romantic to early 20th century. César Franck’s radiant Sonata in A major anchors the program with its sweeping emotional arc and cyclical design\, a hallmark of French Romanticism. Nadia Boulanger’s Three Pieces for Cello and Piano offer a more introspective voice of poetic miniatures that reveal delicate shades of color and quiet nuance. Camille Saint-Saëns’s beloved The Swan and Gabriel Fauré’s graceful Sicilienne complement these works with their elegance\, warmth\, and timeless melodic charm. Together\, these pieces trace a lineage of French expressivity—refined\, nostalgic\, and deeply human. \nPraised for her “mesmerizing” interpretation of Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante\, where she “surmounted all of its technical challenges with ease and gave us a joyous musical experience” (Julian Lloyd Webber\, solo cellist)\, Sydney Lee captivates audiences with her refined elegance\, expressive depth\, and radiant sincerity. A rising force in the classical music world\, Sydney was awarded First Prize at the 2022 Washington International Competition\, Second Prize at the Classic Strings International Competition\, and became the inaugural recipient of Meadowmount School of Music’s prestigious $50\,000 Gurrena Fellowship. Since making her solo debut at age thirteen with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra\, Sydney has performed across North America and Europe in such renowned venues as Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage and Terrace Theater\, Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center\, Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium\, and the Konzerthaus Berlin. \nCollaborating with Sydney on this concert is Music for Youth Emerging Artist\, Serena Li. Serena\, age 14\, is one of the talented high school musicians selected by Music for Youth to be part of their Emerging Artists program. She currently studies at Juilliard Pre-College under the tutelage of Clara Minhye Kim\, and has won many awards in cello. \nThis concert is appropriate for adults and seniors\, as well as youth interested in music in grades 4-12. Registration suggested. Register & See Details

SUMMARY:Wilton Library Presents Hot & Cool Jazz: The Tierney Sutton/Tamir Hendelman Duo
DESCRIPTION:Please join The Wilton Library for a special Valentine’s Day jazz concert with the Tierney Sutton/Tamir Hendelman Duo. Whether it’s a classic coda after a nice\, long lunch or a perfect prelude to a romantic dinner\, Tierney’s engaging stage presence and fabulous vocals over Tamir’s dynamic and inventive piano will enchant as well as entertain us. Their special repertoire for this concert will guarantee a memorable afternoon of jazz. \nFrom a concert review: “Watching Hendelman’s marvelous hands fly across the keyboard\, one is reminded of the likes of Oscar Peterson\, Chick Corea\, and Keith Jarrett.” And The New York Times called Tierney Sutton “a serious jazz artist who takes the enterprise to a whole other level.” \nNine-time Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton has received a “Best Jazz Vocal Album” Grammy nod for every project she has released in the last decade. Known for her impeccable voice and imaginative treatments of The Great American Songbook\, Sutton is heralded for her abilities as both a jazz storyteller and her ability to use her voice as an instrument. In May 2016 Tierney was approached by legendary Director Clint Eastwood to work on his box-office smash-hit Sully. The score was created by Tierney Sutton Band pianist\, Christian Jacob\, The Tierney Sutton Band\, and Clint Eastwood. The end-title song “Flying Home” features music by Eastwood and lyrics by Tierney Sutton and JB Eckl and was performed by Tierney Sutton and The Tierney Sutton Band. \nBorn in Tel Aviv\, pianist\, composer and arranger Tamir Hendelman has resided in Southern California for many years\, but it’s fair to say the world is his home. A long-time member of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra\, he has recorded with Barbra Streisand and Natalie Cole\, performed with Benny Golson and Terell Stafford and has been a guest artist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Winston-Salem Symphony. Tamir has brought his trio to the Brubeck Room three times since 2012\, most recently in 2023. \nHot & Cool Jazz is brought to you by the generosity of the Estate of James (Tom) and Alice Brown. Special thanks to Chris & Tish Brubeck. \nAdvance registration strongly recommended. Register online or call 203-762-6334. Reception following the concert. Suggested donation: $10: online donations can be made here. With our new registration system\, you can sign up two attendees at the same time but they still need to be entered individually; please click on “Add Another” to register the second name. Pre-registrants should arrive by 3:50pm to be guaranteed seating; registered\, wait-listed\, and walk-ins will be admitted after 3:50pm if space is available. SUMMARY:Hot & Cool Jazz: Chris Brubeck's Triple Play at The Wilton Library
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Wilton Library on Friday\, March 13 at 7 p.m. for their next Hot & Cool Jazz concert featuring Triple Play\, a trio of three outstanding and versatile musicians: Peter Madcat Ruth (on harmonica\, jaw harp\, percussion  & vocals)\, Joel Brown (folk and classical acoustic guitar & vocals)\, and Chris Brubeck (electric bass\, bass trombone\, piano & vocals). Collectively\, they bring a rare level of joy\, virtuosity\, and American spirit to the folk\, blues\, jazz\, and classical music they perform. \nHot & Cool Jazz is brought to you by the generosity of the Estate of James (Tom) and Alice Brown. Pre-registrants should arrive by 6:50 p.m. to be guaranteed seating; wait-listed\, walk-ins\, and pre-registrants will be admitted after 6:50 p.m. if space is available. There will be a reception following the concert with CDs available for sale and signing. \nTriple Play’s musical roots go way back (50+ years!) in each member’s history. Chris and Madcat have toured and recorded together in different settings since 1969\, first as young rock musicians in the group New Heavenly Blue (with albums on RCA and Atlantic Records)\, Sky King (on Columbia)\, and then as jazz musicians touring the world with Dave Brubeck. Paul deBarros\, writer for The Seattle Times and Downbeat\, commented after seeing a performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival: “Triple Play is what jazz always was and always should be about: good-time rhythm\, unbridled joy and the sweet release but bittersweet aftertaste of the blues.” \nDave Brubeck’s last recorded performance was captured on the exciting Triple Play Live at Arthur Zankel Music Center. The crowd is wildly enthusiastic on this well-reviewed CD\, which also featured Joel Brown’s father\, Frank Brown\, on clarinet. You can often hear this innovative version of “Take Five” featuring Madcat’s polyrhythmic jaw harp and burning solos by Dave\, Joel and Chris on Sirius XM Jazz. Triple Play’s music has international reach\, as they were a hit playing with The Singapore Chinese Orchestra and returned for a second performance which was recorded and released on Blue Forest Records. “It all fits together because of the talent and taste of the musicians\, who groove no matter what they’re doing and it’s tremendous fun\, to boot\,” said All About Jazz. \nRegistration is Required \nCapacity has been reached. Additional registrants will be placed on the waitlist.
