DESCRIPTION:Held on the beautiful grounds of the Wilton Historical Society\, members will gather on Tuesday\, June 18 at 5:30 p.m. for the Annual Meeting and Potluck Dinner. From 5:30-6 p.m.\, members can enjoy beverages and appetizers plus a stroll in the 1740 Colonial Herb Garden. At 6 p.m.\, president of the board Janet Foster will call the Annual Meeting to order. During the meeting\, new trustees and officers will be elected\, those who are retiring from the Board of Trustees will be recognized\, and an award for outstanding volunteer of the year will be presented. \nHaving an old-fashioned potluck dinner following the Society’s Annual Meeting has been a tradition of many years standing. Members sign up to bring a main dish or salad\, and the Society provides beverages\, appetizers and dessert. Members are asked to RSVP to the Society and state what dish they plan to bring. All members–and prospective members–are most welcome! \nThis year\, Wilton Historian and Emeritus Trustee Bob Russell will be providing some historic perspective with an entertaining talk about Wilton entitled “Let’s Not Rush Into This:  Delayed Decisions\, Perennial Problems\, and Some Failed Ventures.”

SUMMARY:Colonial Tavern Night
DESCRIPTION:Taverns and inns were an integral part of 18th century Wilton\, serving as restaurants\, bars\, rest stops for weary travelers\, and community centers. These businesses were so vital that for a time\, Connecticut colonial law required several towns to have at least one tavern open. On April 28\, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.\, the Wilton Historical Society will celebrate and acknowledge these important historic places by hosting its own tavern at the museum! \nJust like Wilton’s colonial residents\, guests can help themselves to delicious food and drink\, try their hand at some colonial tabletop games like Shut the Box and Nine Men’s Morris\, listen to traditional folk music\, and explore part of the Society’s c. 1772 Sloan-Raymond-Fitch House\, which operated as a tavern throughout the American Revolution and was nearly burned to the ground by the British 246 years to the day of this event. Guests can also participate in a themed tavern trivia contest and test their knowledge of the 1700’s with a chance to win some reproduction Colonial drinkware. \nTicket includes open bar of beer and wine with beer provided by Redding Beer Company and food courtesy of Jeff’s BBQ. Hard cider samples will be provided by Farah Masani and Shawn Frend of Wilton Cider House. \nThis event is for adults 21+ and is generously sponsored by WildBloom Skincare. DESCRIPTION:This May\, the Wilton Singers offer a joyful and memory-filled musical journey highlighting memorable and enjoyable songs from a wide array of beloved\, award-winning movies. “A Night at the Movies” is a must-attend event. \nAudiences will hear well-known hit songs from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban\, Moulin Rouge\, The Greatest Showman\, The Lion King\, Slumdog Millionaire\, Amistad\, and more. Classic favorites are offered in new\, stunning ways as well\, including “Shenandoah” and “Come What May.” Even songs from top contemporary films such as The Barbie Movie and Pitch Perfect are featured. \nPianist Lisa Bettke\, a Wilton High School alumna and former Madrigal Singer\, will accompany the group. Bettke also serves as accompanist and conductor with the Fairfield Children’s Choir. Percussionist Robert D’Angelo and bassist Rodger Bryan also join The Singers\, as well as guest instrumentalists from the choir itself. \nThe show’s producer\, Patty Taylor\, a longtime member of the Singers and Brewster Central School District’s K-12 Performance Art Coordinator – shares\, “We couldn’t be more excited to deliver this special\, diverse program in honor of the movies that we’ve loved and their memorable songs that have enriched our lives. It’s truly a thrilling and joyful musical celebration that fuses a love of the movies with the beauty of music written by top composers of our times.” \nWilton couples\, Ed and Jan MacEwen and Al and Jan Galletly co-founded The Wilton Singers in 1983. The group continues 40+ singers strong\, representing many different cultures\, fields\, industries and locations\, all sharing a love of making music together. \nThe Wilton Singers are committed to fostering diversity\, equity and inclusion and a deep respect for cultures around the world. Their musical selections subsequently demonstrate their love of music from worldwide countries and cultures. They also reflect the audiences’ and singers’ ever-expanding interests. \nAudience members are encouraged to bring their own food and drink to enjoy with friends and family in a Cabaret-style atmosphere. On Saturday\, Oct. 5\, from 6-8 p.m.\, the Wilton Historical Society will party like it’s 1779 by hosting its own one-night-only tavern at the museum! \nNew this year — celebrate Wilton with an add-on of a custom engraved pint glass to use at the event!
