DESCRIPTION:Trees for Trout is back in Wilton! \nConsider “eco-cycling” your tree with Trout Unlimited to help improve the health of our local rivers! Each year\, millions of Christmas trees are simply discarded after the holidays\, but can go to good use providing habitat for a number of species. \nTU volunteers will happily turn your natural tree into important habitat for trout in the Norwalk River. Your tree will join others in helping stabilize stream-banks\, reduce erosion and create refuge habitat for juvenile trout and other aquatic life during projects all summer long. \nCollection will take place on both Saturday\, Jan. 3 and Saturday\, Jan. 10 at Merwin Meadows Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. both days. Just drive up with your tree and our volunteers will take care of the rest. \nSuggested donation is $10 \nFriendly reminder: natural trees only — synthetic trees or trees with tinsel or flocking cannot be accepted.

SUMMARY:Give the Gift of Warmth: Join Wilton Congregational’s Coat Drive
DESCRIPTION:As winter approaches\, Wilton Congregational Church invites you to join in its Annual Coat Drive. From Sunday\, Nov. 2 through Tuesday\, Nov. 4\, the church is collecting gently used coats and outerwear to help keep our neighbors in Wilton and surrounding towns warm this season. \nDonations can be dropped off in Pilgrim Hall at the rear entrance of the church (70 Ridgefield Rd.). Bring your used coats — and even scarves and hats — anytime\, from Sunday\, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. until Tuesday\, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m.  \n\nDrive around in back of the sanctuary and bring your donated coats right into Pilgrim Hall\, through the door with the covered porch. \nAfter hours\, simply leave them in the plastic bins located under the covered porch.\n\nYour generosity will benefit several local organizations\, including Bridgeport Rescue Mission\, Open Doors Shelter\, Person to Person\, Pivot Ministries\, and Wilton Social Services. Any size is welcome; men’s\, women’s\, and children’s coats are all needed. \nFor over 60 years\, Wilton Congregational Church Coat Drive has helped keep people in our community warm and comfortable as winter sets in. Take a look in your closet for the coats you no longer need. DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Diwali\, the festival of lights\, Middlebrook 8th graders and HindiUSA are organizing a SewaDiwali Food Donation Drive on Saturday\, Nov. 1\, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.\, outside the Wilton Stop & Shop\, inviting the community to give back by supporting families in need. \nThe event is part of the nationwide SewaDiwali initiative\, a grassroots movement that brings together individuals and organizations to serve the community during the festive season. They will be collecting non-perishable food items that will be donated to local food pantries across Fairfield County. \nDiwali is a time to celebrate with family and friends\, but also a time to reflect on our values of compassion and service. By organizing this food drive\, these students hope to foster togetherness and Sewa (selfless giving) for the welfare of society\, by promoting the festive and enlightening spirit of Diwali. \nCommunity members are encouraged to donate items such as canned goods\, rice\, pasta\, cereal\, shelf-stable milk and other essential food products. Donations can be dropped off at the collection site located outside Stop & Shop (5 River Rd.) between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Nov. 1.

Traditionally hosted by Point Break Tacos\, which closed doors last year\, the 4th annual Duck Race returns\, with the torch to oversee it being passed to Trout Unlimited. \nTrout Unlimited is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of freshwater streams\, rivers\, and associated upland habitats for trout\, salmon\, other aquatic species\, and bringing communities together for this mission. \nThe duck race will take place on Sunday\, May 25 at 10 a.m.\, starting at Schenck’s Island in Wilton Town Center. While the ducks will be racing down the river for about 20 minutes\, participants and guests can explore downtown Wilton for local shopping and eateries as well as learn a few fly-fishing tricks from Trout Unlimited. \nThe participant whose duck crosses the finish line first will win a Sweet Summer prize and the infamous “Big Duck.”  Racing ducks are limited to 150 (one per registrant) and residents and guests are encouraged to register as soon as possible. The cost to enter is $25 per race duck\, with 100% of the proceeds supporting Trout Unlimited’s conservation mission. \nVisit the event website for additional details and registration instructions.

SUMMARY:Rise Against Hunger Meals-packaging Event
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers Needed to ‘Rise Against Hunger’ for Wilton’s Largest Community Meal Packaging Event \nSince 2011 friends\, neighbors and family across the Wilton area have been gathering on the third Saturday of October to package meals for Rise Against Hunger. It’s the largest single-day Rise Against Hunger volunteer event in New England. Last year more than 600 volunteers packaged 137\,000 meals. To date\, over 1.5 million meals have been sent to otherwise starving children around the world. \nThis year’s event — as always\, sponsored by the Wilton Interfaith Action Committee (WI-ACT) — is on Saturday\, Oct. 19. Organizers once again have set a food packaging goal of 135\,000 individual\, highly nutritious meals packaged in one day — enough to feed 400 malnourished children for an entire year wherever the need is greatest. \nWords can hardly do justice to this joyous volunteer experience\, but so many past participants say taking part is one of the most uplifting and meaningful things they’ve ever done. More than 100 people in a room work together while doing something that will literally save lives — creating life-sustaining meal packages — is soul-sustaining for everyone who volunteers. Community members of all ages work side-by-side to do incredible good. \nThis event depends on two essential factors: the purchase of bulk ingredients for the meals and volunteers to package them. Many generous donations have been made by congregations\, businesses\, and individuals to purchase the ingredients. As in the past\, along with Wilton faith institutions\, ASML and the Wilton Kiwanis Club are leading the way for the corporate and nonprofit levels. As an added treat\, RISE Doughnuts will once again provide doughnuts for volunteers after their shifts. \nTo succeed Wi-Act needs community members’ support. Donations can still be sent to Wi-Act Treasurer\, 36 New Canaan Rd.\, Wilton\, CT 06897. But the primary focus now is seeking volunteers. \n“From 7 years old on up\, all are welcome to join us for this wonderful experience\, either alone or with your whole family\, including grandparents\,” Wi-Act Chair Steve Hudspeth said. \nThe event is held at WEPCO (36 New Canaan Rd\,) and volunteers can sign up online for two-hour shifts\, starting at 9-11 a.m.\, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.\, 1-3 p.m.\, and 3-5 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Rotary Club of Wilton together with the Knights of Columbus Bishop Fenwick Assembly 100 for their family carnival from Sept. 13-15. \nThe Carnival is a great family event and a wonderful Wilton tradition to kick off the autumn season and new school year for everyone. Find over a dozen different rides for all ages as well as multiple games and other activities for the whole family. Additionally\, enjoy a variety of food trucks and vendors throughout the weekend event. \nThe carnival takes place at the corner of School Road and Danbury Road/Route 7. \nAdmission and parking is free. Unlimited ride wristbands are $30 per wristband for each time slot and individual ride tickets are available as well. \nAll proceeds go to the community in support of Wilton projects as well as Rotary International global humanitarian projects. \nFriday Sept. 13\, 6-10 p.m. \nSaturday Sept. 14\, 12-10 p.m. \nSunday Sept. 15\, 12-5 p.m. \n
