DESCRIPTION:On March 16\, 2020\, we will be hosting our 12th St. Baldrick’s Foundation shaving event in the Wilton High School cafeteria. (Snow date is March 19). Registration at the event will begin at 6:30 p.m.. We are asking our Wilton High School students to join our team along with Mr. Liptack (a Knight!) and Mr. Pompa\, (our own Commander of The Knights of the Bald Table!) by registering online by Feb. 21\, 2020. You can also donate at any time on the same site\, or simply come watch us that night. \nIt’s our annual fundraiser to fight childhood cancer by funding pediatric cancer research. In these challenging times\, cancer does not stop–and your efforts go even further. Many thanks in advance for considering to help us with this cause. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation raises awareness and funds to fight childhood cancer. While battling cancer\, children may not lose only their hair but also years of their childhood\, and sometimes their lives. Participants in a St. Baldrick’s event shave their heads in exchange for donations towards research. It’s a simple concept\, a fun time and a very effective fundraiser. Since its founding in 2000 by three men\, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation has raised well over $50 million with head shavings in 18 countries and shaved over 390\,000 heads. \nOur team is comprised of Wilton High School students and staff which started under the student leadership of Reed Dempsey for an area child diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma at age 2½ who is now cancer free. For our first two years we participated with the Fairfield based TeamBrent\, but eventually members of our school created a Wilton High School offshoot in 2009. \nLast year as a whole\, Wilton High School raised over $24\,000. This year\, our team (pictured below) is looking to exceed that amount. As we are nearing our date\, our team is looking for additional students to part take in the event. DESCRIPTION:The Kiwanis Club of Wilton is adapting its quarterly food drive that supports the Wilton Food Pantry\, to make sure COVID-19 doesn’t interfere with the club’s efforts. Instead of asking for actual food items\, members will be in front of Village Market this weekend (Friday-Sunday\, June 26-28) asking shoppers to consider donating gift cards that can be purchased in-store at the cash register. \nCustomers can then deposit them upon leaving the store in a special box provided by a designated member of the Kiwanis Club. This process aligns with pandemic social distancing\, and subsequent distribution is simplified. \nKiwanis members will be in front of the Village Market between the hours of 11 a.m.-5 p.m.\, under the banner of Feed Wilton; in response to COVID-19 physical contact will be minimized\, and the focus will be on gift card donations to serve those who are food insecure within our community. Kiwanis will match the first $3\,000 of the proceeds.

Students are all virtual and do not have the resources to learn online. \nPreisano\, who is heavily involved in charitable work at Prep\, is working with Full Court Peace\, a Norwalk-based organization that has separate outposts in Cuba\, the Dominican Republic\, and Wyoming. Its international wing\, “Full Court Peace Travel” sends resources to these locations to help bolster basketball leagues for kids. DESCRIPTION:The Social Action Committee at Temple B’nai Chaim is collecting diapers\, wipes\, and menstrual supplies for distribution to The Community Action Agency of Western CT\, Person to Person\, and the Domestic Violence Crisis Center. If enough items are donated The Diaper Bank of CT will be contacted about donating to other organizations in the area. Collection will be in the parking lot. Open packages are accepted. All sizes are welcome\, but generally\, sizes 3 and up are most in need. Lack of these supplies causes incredible amounts of stress on the families in need. Lack of menstrual supplies prevents women from attending school or jobs. These items are needed now in greater supply.
