SUMMARY:America 250: Abigail Adams\, America's First Modern Woman\, as Told by Her Husband John Adams
DESCRIPTION:As we celebrate the 250th anniversary commemorating the American Revolution and the signing of our Declaration of Independence\, the month of March – designated as National Women’s History Month – is a fitting time to celebrate Abigail Adams\, a woman ahead of her time\, as told by her husband John Adams\, portrayed by George Baker. Please join the Wilton Library for this inspiring performance on Thursday\, Mar. 12\, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. \nSince 2008\, George Baker has portrayed the character of President John Adams in a one-man show throughout the country. He speaks with admiration\, humor\, and affection about his wife\, Abigail\, the “First Modern American Woman\,” describing how she defied the sexist conventions of her time\, that married women could not own property\, yet\, with her amazing financial skills and insights\, made the Adams family prosperous. She helped John found the new nation\, advised him in important political affairs\, and raised their son\, John Quincy Adams\, to be prepared to ultimately become Ambassador to Great Britain\, Secretary of State\, and finally President of the United States. It is a story about their romance\, challenges\, trials\, and accomplishments\, which is the story of ordinary people living in extraordinary times. \nGeorge Baker: \nGeorge Baker has portrayed the character of President John Adams in a one-man show throughout the country at national conventions and venues like Mystic Seaport\, the Presidential Libraries of Harry S Truman\, Dwight D. Eisenhower\, and George H. W. Bush\, and the New York Historical Society\, and was featured as John Adams on NPR‘s weekend program\, Studio 360. George is a graduate of Columbia College and Columbia Law School\, and practiced law in Connecticut from 1973-2024. \nRegistration is requested.  Register online\, or call (203) 762-6334. \nRegistration will close on March 12\, 2026 at 5:00pm.

SUMMARY:Lantern Tour: A Walk Through Time
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Wilton Land Trust and Hillside Cemetery and Arboretum. Featuring Michael Carool and Lisa Bargmann from Rediscovering History. \nJoin us this fall for a unique evening stroll through nature and history. Our Lantern Tour begins at dusk as we walk through the Wilton Land Trust’s beautiful Chestnut Meadow\, guided by soft lantern light and the colors of autumn. The path will wind its way toward the historic Old Section of Hillside Cemetery\, where stories from Wilton’s past come alive. \nAlong the way\, we’ll stop at the gravestones of Revolutionary War patriots\, founding families and memorable characters who helped shape the town we know today. It’s a chance to reflect\, learn and connect with Wilton’s deep roots under the stars. \nWe’ll finish the evening with hot cider and donuts\, shared among neighbors and new friends. Please bring a flashlight and wear sturdy walking shoes.

SUMMARY:Wilton Go Green Presents: Totally Obsessed with "Kelp!"
DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Go Green to watch Kelp!\, a 30-minute documentary and then hear from Dr. Leigh Shemitz about kelp in local waters. \nAbout Kelp! the documentary: Under the looming shadow of ecological breakdown\, a young filmmaker searches for a surprising super-solution that can help build a better future for humans and the planet. On an epic adventure aboard the good ship Gleaner through Britain’s rugged coastline\, they discover the power of kelp to regenerate our coasts\, empower communities and even replace plastic. \nAfter the film Shemitz\, president of SoundWaters\, will share what it is like to grow kelp locally\, just a few miles away. SoundWaters has farmed kelp in Long Island Sound for several years\, and Shemitz will explain what it takes to grow kelp\, including the timing and process and the challenges and successes. She will discuss the environmental benefits of kelp farming: how it can improve water quality and provide key nutrients for upland farms in our region. \nShemitz is the president of SoundWaters\, where her responsibilities include setting strategic direction\, developing programs\, creating partnerships\, overseeing operations and managing the SoundWaters staff and budget. Shemitz’s extensive background in environmental science provides enormous depth and breadth as she helps SoundWaters fulfill its mission to inspire future generations to create a better world through joyful learning on Long Island Sound. Shemitz currently serves on the board of directors of the Stamford Environmental Protection Board and the Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens\, and is an emeritus board member at the New Haven Urban Resource Initiative. Shemitz earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and literature from Harvard University; and a Master’s degree in forest science and a Ph.D. in environmental health\, both from Yale University. \nRegistration is suggested.

SUMMARY:Victorian "Get Ready With Me": A 19th Century Fashion Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Modern fashion influencers invite viewers to “get ready with me” — an opportunity for an inside look at their wardrobe choices and styling for days at the office\, Sunday brunch\, dinner dates and more. While no social media existed in the late 19th century\, people considered a balance of form\, function and social expectations when putting together an outfit. \nOn Saturday\, Apr. 19\, at 2 p.m.\, join the Wilton Historical Society for a lecture from historical costume designer and fashion historian Jessica Bolduc as they discuss what it took for someone in the Victorian era to get dressed and ready for the day. The lecture will cover the evolving nature of fashion throughout the second half of the 1800s using examples from the Wilton Historical Society’s museum collection as well as recreations from Bolduc. \nFunding for this program is provided by the Elizabeth Raymond Ambler Trust. \nThe lecture will be held at the Wilton Historical Society. Registration is required\, and the cost to attend is $10 per person for non-members and free for Wilton Historical Society Members.

SUMMARY:Challenges and Legal Issues for Students with ADHD and/or Learning Disabilities who are Transitioning to College
DESCRIPTION:Despite their intelligence and enormous potential\, students diagnosed with ADHD and learning disabilities face continual difficulty addressing transitions. None prove more difficult than the transition from high school to college. What makes this transition difficult is a variety of social and legal changes that many students and parents are not equipped to address. This puts them at high risk to fail\, despite their high potential. If addressed proactively\, however\, the challenges of this transition can be reduced dramatically so these students can have the opportunity to maximize their potential\, and not just survive in the post-secondary environment but to thrive there. \nRobert M. Tudisco\, Esq.\, a nationally recognized author\, motivational speaker\, practicing attorne\, and adult diagnosed with ADHD\, will address many of the social and legal changes that occur with the transition to college and discuss practical strategies for students to reach their full potential. His presentation will include such topics as: IEPs and making the most of transition planning; converting 504 plans to reasonable accommodation requests in college; high stakes testing accommodations; understanding FERPA and proactively addressing the flow of information; developing strategies to provide structure\, support and accountability while away at school; and diversion of medication and what parents and students need to know. \nRegister online for this free presentation.
