SUMMARY:Ambler Farm Transplant Sale
DESCRIPTION:Are you ready to start growing your own vegetables and flowers? Now’s a great time to plant your garden and it’s a fun activity the whole family can do together. And Ambler Farm has already-germinated plants for easy transition into your garden. You can choose from more than 225 varieties of plants this season. \nAbout Our Transplants\nOur transplants are 100% organically grown in our greenhouse from seed in a compost-based potting soil and they are lovingly tended by our director of agriculture\, Jonathan Kirschner. \nWe strive to give you plants that will do well when you are ready to plant them in your garden. We plant seeds in organic matter soil in our warm greenhouse where they germinate. We then transition the plants to our unheated hoop house before finally moving them outside. Transplants grown with our methodology suffer less transplant shock and show better resistance to adverse conditions such as disease and pest pressure. Transplants include those that are suited for a colder Northern climate (when planted). \nSafe Shopping\nSale Dates:  May 16\, 22\, 23\, and 30 \nTo ensure everyone’s safety\, we are opening the Transplant Sale for more days and longer hours this year. Shop the Transplant Sale on Saturday\, May 16; Friday\, May 22; Saturday\, May 23; and Saturday\, May 30. We’ll be open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day. \nThere are two ways to purchase your transplants: \n\nPurchase your Transplants Online Today with Curbside Pickup:  To guarantee that you receive the varieties and quantities that you want\, shop our online store and purchase the plants today. They will be put aside specifically for you. Once you have purchased your transplants\, visit the signup page to schedule your pickup date and time. We’ll have your plants ready for you and our team will put them right into your trunk. Please note that we cannot ship plants.\nStop\, Browse and Shop for your Transplants:  Sign up for an available 30-minute window to come out to the farm to shop our safe\, open-air transplant market. You’ll self-select your transplants while enjoying the beautiful grounds of the farm. We won’t rush you but we do request that you are prompt so that we can accommodate all our guests in a timely manner.\n\nPLEASE NOTE:  Face masks must be worn while you are in the Transplant Market area–please remember to bring yours. Please limit the number of guests in the Transplant Market area to 1 or 2. Families are permitted to enjoy the rest of the farm while you are shopping. SUMMARY:Comstock Hill Cemetery – Stewardship Workday
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Land Conservation Trust\, in partnership with the Drum Hill Chapter NSDAR\, invites the community to celebrate our Nation’s Independence by stewarding the Comstock Hill Cemetery. This cemetery is the final resting grounds for six Revolutionary War Patriots. In honor of Independence Day 2020\, and the 246th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War\, the WLCT has partnered with the Drum Hill Chapter NSDAR to put together a community stewardship workday to improve the quality of the cemetery’s trail and grounds. \nThis workday will focus on the trail that winds through the cemetery\, general brush maintenance\, and the hand-pulling of invasive species. Volunteer crews will dig\, rake\, and cut to improve the trails and clear the passageway of stones and overhanging vegetation. \nVolunteers will meet at 1:30 p.m. (rain or shine) at the Signal Hill Rd. trail entrance; work should wrap up about 3:30 p.m. Wilton Land Conservation Trust staff will be onsite to provide instruction and make sure everyone stays safe. \nVolunteers should wear long pants\, a long-sleeved shirt\, sturdy boots\, and gloves. Bring water\, snacks\, lunch\, and work gloves. WLCT Staff will provide tools\, but participants are always welcome to bring their own loppers\, hand saws\, hand trowels\, etc. \nPARKING\nVolunteers are invited to park along the roadside of Signal Hill Rd. Please be mindful of our neighbor’s lawns and driveways. Parking on Ridgefield Rd. can be dangerous and is not recommended. \nCOVID-19\nFollowing COVID-19 safety guidelines\, volunteers are expected to bring and wear their own masks\, and to respect six foot of social distance between one another. \nVolunteering on a WLCT preserve is a rewarding way to give back to your community\, learn about conservation\, and improve public open spaces. For information on additional volunteer opportunities\, contact David McCarthy\, WLCT Executive Director via email or at 800.983.3552. \n  \n
