SUMMARY:Skywatch Reprise
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday evening\, Oct. 14\, the Conservation Commission\, in collaboration with Norwalk River Watershed Association\, Wilton Garden Club\, Wilton Land Conservation Trust\, and Woodcock Nature Center will offer a reprise of the educational and enjoyable Skywatch they hosted in November 2016. \nTo be held again at Slaughter Field at the corner of Nod Hill and Piper’s Hill Rds.\, the event will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will include sightings of several lunar\, planetary and other astronomical wonders through the telescopes of members of the John J. McCarthy Observatory in New Milford\, CT. \nThere will be a bonfire near the Piper’s Road entry where makings of s’mores\, hot chocolate\, hot cider\, and other refreshments prepared and offered by members of the Conservation Commission will be available to all. \nAttendees should park along Piper’s Hill Rd. and dress for the weather (as well as care against ticks) including long pants and long-sleeved shirts since the astronomers also will provide an opportunity to lie on the ground to identify some of the celestial bodies overhead. The Commission also suggests bringing a blanket to lay on the ground. \nWhile the event is free\, registration via email will help with planning and ensuring attendees can get up-to-date information about go/postpone to the rain date. Because the Skywatch will occur in a dark environment\, dogs are not permitted for this occasion to avoid any harm to attendees or pets. The rain date is two weeks later\, Sunday\, Oct. 28\, at 7:30 p.m.\, in time to join goblins and witches as they fly past the moon!

DESCRIPTION:Trains\, Trains\, and more Trains for the holidays at the Wilton Historical Society! \nAfter the familiar Thanksgiving rituals of parades\, turkey and football\, treat the children in your life to an entrancing afternoon with trains and live entertainment. Dressed for the holidays\, the Wilton Historical Society’s historic 18th and 19th century buildings are transformed into a train-lovers delight with many different model train layouts winding through tiny towns with a variety of different kinds of buildings\, tunnels and landscapes! The model train displays enchant visitors of all ages with lots of buttons to push and knowledgeable “train engineers” on hand to “talk trains.” In a special train room for the youngest guests\, Thomas the Tank Engine and Brio trains are ready for hands-on fun. The Wilton Historical Society is the place to be – come enjoy the ever-popular Great Trains Holiday Show! \nNew this year – model trains are toot\, toot\, tooting upstairs in the Toy Loft\, which is filled with the favorite toys of yesteryear\, where the very popular Alvin the Chipmunk layout can be found. \nModel train enthusiasts can see nine layouts\, including G\, HO\, O\, N\, S gauge and Lego trains. \nThe Great Trains Holiday Show opens on Friday\, Nov. 23\, 12-4 p.m.. \nAnd even more on Saturday\, Nov. 24!  Special Performance 2-3 p.m.\, puppeteer/singer/storyteller Tom H. Hanford. No charge \nJoin Tom Hooker Hanford as he performs seasonal songs and stories for kids at the Opening Weekend of the Great Trains Holiday Show! His programs combine music\, storytelling\, and colorful painted masks. In recent years Tom has taken his interactive shows for children to Old Sturbridge Village and The Berkshire Museum in Massachusetts\, Clermont State Historic Site\, The Farmers Museum\, Olana\, and Erie Canal Village in New York State\, and many other museums\, historic sites\, festivals\, schools and libraries. \nSee the Great Trains Exhibit on Saturday (10 a.m.-4 p.m.)\, and leave some time for the kids to enjoy an art project. From 11 a.m.-1 p.m. they can color a wooden train engine\, perfect for using as an ornament. DESCRIPTION:Wilton’s annual Holiday Stroll will be held on Friday\, Dec. 7\, beginning at 4 p.m. on the Town Green in Wilton Center. This year the Wilton Chamber of Commerce\, Kiwanis Club of Wilton\, and the Town of Wilton have planned an expanded schedule of events to celebrate Hanukah\, Christmas\, and the arrival of winter. Community officials invite everyone to bring family and friends to Wilton Center to welcome in the season! \nThe schedule of events has been set to include: \n\nMenorah Lighting on the Town Green at 4 p.m.. GOOD Morning Wilton is pleased to participate in this year’s Holiday Stroll by providing traditional potato latkes (pancakes) for everyone to enjoy.\nChildren of all ages can participate in holiday crafts and activities on the Town Green\, featuring free cookie painting (nut free) with The Painted Cookie. Enjoy festive music provided by the Wilton High School band and local holiday carolers.\nTree lighting on the Town Green at 5 p.m. followed by Santa’s arrival. Santa will visit with children at the gazebo on the Town Green where they can share their holiday wishes and receive a special treat from Santa.\nMarshmallow Roast at Schenck’s Island from 5-8 p.m. sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Wilton. Enjoy hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows by the warmth of the campfire.\nWilton Library will be welcoming visitors with refreshments by the warmth of the fireplace. Visit the Holiday Book Sale and Art Exhibition for holiday gift giving.\nStrolling\, shopping and visiting through town to enjoy the generous hospitality of retailers\, restaurants\, and local businesses.\n\nThe Holiday Stroll is an outdoor event. SUMMARY:"A Charlie Brown Christmas" at the Wilton Playshop
DESCRIPTION:A Charlie Brown Christmas\, based upon the Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz\, is back by popular demand and will be presented on the Wilton Playshop stage from Dec. 7-9\, 2018. Based on the television special by Bill Melendez and Lee Mendelson\, this holiday favorite was adapted for the stage by Eric Schaeffer. Jeffrey Spector will direct and Christine Titus will choreograph this stage adaptation of the classic animated television special in which Charlie Brown\, Snoopy\, and the other Peanuts grapple with the real meaning of Christmas. \nWhen Charlie Brown complains about the overwhelming materialism he sees during the Christmas season\, Lucy suggests that he become director of the school Christmas pageant. Charlie Brown accepts\, but this proves to be a frustrating endeavor. When his attempt to restore the proper holiday spirit with a forlorn little Christmas tree fails\, Linus helps him learn the true meaning of Christmas. \nRecommended for children of all ages.
