SUMMARY:Colonial Tavern Night
DESCRIPTION:Taverns and inns were an integral part of 18th century Wilton\, serving as restaurants\, bars\, rest stops for weary travelers\, and community centers. These businesses were so vital that for a time\, Connecticut colonial law required several towns to have at least one tavern open. On April 28\, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.\, the Wilton Historical Society will celebrate and acknowledge these important historic places by hosting its own tavern at the museum! \nJust like Wilton’s colonial residents\, guests can help themselves to delicious food and drink\, try their hand at some colonial tabletop games like Shut the Box and Nine Men’s Morris\, listen to traditional folk music\, and explore part of the Society’s c. 1772 Sloan-Raymond-Fitch House\, which operated as a tavern throughout the American Revolution and was nearly burned to the ground by the British 246 years to the day of this event. Guests can also participate in a themed tavern trivia contest and test their knowledge of the 1700’s with a chance to win some reproduction Colonial drinkware. \nTicket includes open bar of beer and wine with beer provided by Redding Beer Company and food courtesy of Jeff’s BBQ. Hard cider samples will be provided by Farah Masani and Shawn Frend of Wilton Cider House. \nThis event is for adults 21+ and is generously sponsored by WildBloom Skincare. DESCRIPTION:Located in the heart of Wall Street\, Delmonico’s from 1827 to the 1980s shaped New York City’s restaurant scene. Under the original ownership of the Delmonico brothers\, Pietro and Giovanni\, Delmonico’s introduced the first farm-to-table concept\, à la carte dining — complete with white tablecloths and menus — but most notably created the phenomenon called the “power lunch.” The impact of World War I and the era of Prohibition caused the family to cease operations\, shuttering the restaurant in 1923. In 1926\, Oscar Tucci\, a Tuscan immigrant\, took over ownership and developed a strict code of hospitality\, etiquette\, and operations coupled with legendary libations and superb fare known as the Delmonico way. \nWilton Library will welcome local author Max Tucci\, Oscar’s grandson\, for an author talk about The Delmonico Way\, which welcomes readers to a world when dining out was a glamorous affair. Max and his celebrity chef friends offer timeless recipes and he shares his tips for recreating the magic of the Delmonico way at home. Tucci is a writer and a TV and radio personality\, and an award-winning producer and host of the “Max & Friends” podcast. \nElm Street Books will be selling copies after the talk. DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Farmers’ Market has a new location for its 2022 season! The market will be held every Wednesday from 12-5 p.m. beginning June 1 through Oct. 26 at the Wilton Town Green. \nSupported by Family and Cosmetic Dentistry of Wilton\, the market will feature local CT farmers offering seasonal and organic produce\, fresh baked goods and pastries\, food vendors with a selection of lunch items\, fresh seafood\, local artists and crafters featuring their original and one of a kind art and jewelry pieces\, a variety of all-natural and organic skincare and healthcare products\, gourmet food items\, and craft breweries for non-alcoholic beverages.
