SUMMARY:Woodcock Nature Center Invites The Community To Participate in FrogWatch USA
DESCRIPTION:Woodcock Nature Center is proud to announce its role as a participating chapter of FrogWatch USA\, the national citizen science initiative that empowers community members to help monitor and protect local frog and toad populations. \nFrogWatch USA\, a longstanding program managed by the Akron Zoo and part of a nationwide network of chapters\, invites individuals\, families\, and nature lovers to explore wetlands in their communities\, learn to identify amphibian calls\, and contribute valuable data to a scientific database used by researchers studying wetland health and amphibian populations. \nAspiring citizen scientists can register for upcoming FrogWatch USA volunteer training sessions tailored to all experience levels. These trainings will equip participants with the skills to identify frogs and toads by their unique calls\, select monitoring sites\, and record observations. \nCurrent sessions include: \n\nSaturday\, Feb. 28 – 1-2:30 p.m. at Woodcock Nature Center\nTuesday\, Mar. 3 – 6:30-8 p.m. Online via Zoom\n\nParticipation in FrogWatch USA does not require prior scientific experience just a curiosity and dedication to learning about local amphibians. \nFrogs and toads play essential roles in forest and wetland ecosystems as both predators and prey\, and serve as key indicators of environmental health. However\, many species have experienced significant declines in recent years due to habitat loss and environmental stressors. The data collected by FrogWatch USA volunteers helps scientists better understand population trends\, threats\, and conservation needs at local and national scales. \nFor more details or to register for trainings\, visit the Woodcock Nature Center website or contact Educator Tommy McCarthy at tmccarthy@woodcocknaturecenter.org.

SUMMARY:America 250: Abigail Adams\, America's First Modern Woman\, as Told by Her Husband John Adams
DESCRIPTION:As we celebrate the 250th anniversary commemorating the American Revolution and the signing of our Declaration of Independence\, the month of March – designated as National Women’s History Month – is a fitting time to celebrate Abigail Adams\, a woman ahead of her time\, as told by her husband John Adams\, portrayed by George Baker. Please join the Wilton Library for this inspiring performance on Thursday\, Mar. 12\, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. \nSince 2008\, George Baker has portrayed the character of President John Adams in a one-man show throughout the country. He speaks with admiration\, humor\, and affection about his wife\, Abigail\, the “First Modern American Woman\,” describing how she defied the sexist conventions of her time\, that married women could not own property\, yet\, with her amazing financial skills and insights\, made the Adams family prosperous. She helped John found the new nation\, advised him in important political affairs\, and raised their son\, John Quincy Adams\, to be prepared to ultimately become Ambassador to Great Britain\, Secretary of State\, and finally President of the United States. It is a story about their romance\, challenges\, trials\, and accomplishments\, which is the story of ordinary people living in extraordinary times. \nGeorge Baker: \nGeorge Baker has portrayed the character of President John Adams in a one-man show throughout the country at national conventions and venues like Mystic Seaport\, the Presidential Libraries of Harry S Truman\, Dwight D. Eisenhower\, and George H. W. Bush\, and the New York Historical Society\, and was featured as John Adams on NPR‘s weekend program\, Studio 360. George is a graduate of Columbia College and Columbia Law School\, and practiced law in Connecticut from 1973-2024. \nRegistration is requested.  Register online\, or call (203) 762-6334. \nRegistration will close on March 12\, 2026 at 5:00pm.

Working with towns and individuals to improve energy efficiency\, conservation\, and clean renewable energy across Connecticut\, PACE provides outreach and education on clean energy issues at public events\, legislative hearings and environmental forums. \nMark Scully has long been interested in clean energy\, energy efficiency and recycling. He has served as President of PACE since 2016 and recently introduced its Clean Energy Action Center. A native of Simsbury\, Mark is active in his local Sustainability Committee. He sits on the Advisory Committee of the CT Coalition for Climate Action and speaks regularly on solar and other clean energy issues. \nBernard Pelletier serves as a Vice President for PACE. He also volunteers at the state level recently joining Connecticut’s Energy Efficiency Board as the Residential Representative. Prior to that he co-chaired the Building Working Group of the Governor’s Council on Climate Change. His focus is on building energy efficiency and renewable energy adoption. Additionally\, he is a member of the Connecticut Energy Network’s Steering. \nA former middle school Tech Ed teacher\, Andy Bauer\, became a grassroots environmental activist in 2000 with the ‘Sooty Six’ campaign to clean up old and dirty power plants. That greatly expanded his understanding of the various impacts of non-renewable forms of power and the ability of regular citizens to do something about it. In 2005\, he founded the Portland\, CT\, Clean Energy Task Force\, which he continues to Chair. Andy became Coordinator of the CT Energy Network in 2024 and hosted a 2025 press conference at the legislature\, highlighting the many necessary aspects of CT’s Public Benefits Charge. When not out ‘saving the planet’\, he’s a farmhand\, a carpenter\, a hiker\, and a speaker to Leaders-in-Training at his beloved YMCA Camp Woodstock. \nRegistration is required for this event and will close on Mar. 14\, 2026\, at 12:00 p.m.
