DESCRIPTION:U.S. Representative Jim Himes (CT-4) will be making a stop in Wilton on Wednesday\, March 20\, to lead a discussion on gun violence prevention measures. He’ll be updating constituents on gun violence prevention priorities for the U.S. House of Representatives\, and HR-8\, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019\, which passed the House on Feb. 27\, 2019\, by a vote of 240-190. \nIt has since been sent to the Senate\, and if it passes it will move on to the President to be signed into law. \nThis bill prohibits firearm transfers between private parties and unlicensed individuals without a licensed gun dealer\, manufacturer\, or importer first taking possession of the firearm to conduct a background check. \nThe meeting will be held at Comstock Community Center (198 School Rd.)\, in Room 31 from 3:30-4:30 p.m..

DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Conservation Commission is looking for volunteers on Saturday\, May 4 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. to participate in our Townwide Cleanup event. This event is a fantastic opportunity to meet your neighbors and help keep our community beautiful! \nVolunteers will meet at the Town Green Gazebo where the Conservation Commission will be handing out work gloves and trash bags to participants. We will then spread out to designated areas throughout Town to pick up litter. All participants will return to the Town Green to dispose of garbage bags. \nLast year\, we had over 200 volunteers join together to remove over 3\,200 lbs. of litter from Wilton’s roadways and open spaces! The mission of the Connecticut Insurance Department is to protect consumers through regulation of the industry\, outreach\, education\, and advocacy. All are welcome to attend. \nMais\, a Wilton resident\, was appointed by Gov. Ned Lamont to be Connecticut’s 33rd Insurance Commissioner. Mais previously was a member of Deloitte’s Center for Financial Services\, providing industry-leading thought leadership and insight on US and international regulatory affairs and related topics to the financial services sector. He primarily focused on the insurance sector—both US and internationally—as a subject matter specialist and resource on insurance regulation\, and expert in corporate governance and responsibility in both the public and private sector. \nO’Sullivan heads the Consumer Affairs Division that receives and reviews complaints from Connecticut residents\, including claims disputes and serves as mediator in those cases. O’Sullivan has held positions in the insurance industry including claims management\, sales management and compliance. \nThe Wilton League of Women Voters\, a non-partisan political organization open to all\, not only encourages informed active participation in government\, but also works to increase the understanding of major public policy issues. DESCRIPTION:Meeting in Room 18 of the Comstock Community Center on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:15 p.m.\, the Economic Development Commission (EDC) works to improve Wilton’s reputation as a place where the enhanced quality of life for workers and residents attracts new businesses\, relocation of current businesses\, and success for existing businesses. The commission has worked since 2012 on assisting current business owners in maintaining and expanding their business\, to increase available commercial space in the town\, and to expand the commercial sector through fostering a friendly attitude towards business in Wilton.
