SUMMARY:Do You Live with a Picky Eater? How to Set Your Child on Track to Become a Better Eater
DESCRIPTION:Wilton Library welcomes Todd Kellogg\, LMFT\, BCBA\, to present the community with explanations and solutions for how parents can help their children become better eaters. \nA picky eater is someone who eats a narrow and inadequate selection of food. The good news is that there is a wealth of evidence-based research providing practical behavior strategies on how to gradually increase the variety of foods your child will eat. \nIn this presentation\, Kellogg will explain selective eating/food refusal/picky eating and will offer strategies to promote healthy eating habits at home. \nThis in-person presentation at Wilton Library is offered by SPED*NET free of charge. SUMMARY:Author Talk: Deborah Kasdan - "Roll Back the World: A Sister's Memoir"
DESCRIPTION:When Deborah Kasdan’s sister returns from a gap year in Israel she seems to glow with health and beauty. Three years later she is diagnosed with schizophrenia. Roll Back the World is a heartbreaking story of love\, grief\, and guilt — and a testament to the enduring bonds of siblings in the face of ineffective psychiatric treatment spanning decades. \nIn clear and vivid prose\, and with the help of Rachel’s letters and poetry\, Kasdan provides a poignant look at a mid-century Jewish family under strain; offers a moving account of Rachel’s indomitable spirit; and explores family history from the WWII years and the Cold War\, trying to make sense of what happened. \nAs the years pass\, Kasdan focuses on her own family and career but constantly feels shadowed by a sense of guilt\, which is compounded when she and her other two siblings make a bold attempt to help Rachel—a plan that fails. Only after a mental health worker asks Rachel to write a poem does she finally gain her freedom. To Kasdan’s great joy\, Rachel finds acceptance\, despite her disabilities\, in a compassionate community\, including a synagogue where she returns to the religion of her youth. \nKasdan will be in conversation with professional book discussion leader Susan Boyar. \nWhen Kasdan retired from a thirty-five-year career writing about business and technology\, she joined Westport Writers Workshop to make her personal stories come alive. She has served on the board of directors of an intergenerational housing organization and the National Organization on Mental Illness (NAMI) for Southwest CT. She lives in Norwalk. \nRegistration is required. Register on the Wilton Library website. \nElm Street Books will be selling copies after the talk. A portion of the proceeds goes to Wilton Library. \nThis event is co-sponsored by NAMI Southwest CT. \nThe media sponsor of our author talks is GOOD Morning Wilton.

SUMMARY:Author Talk: Dana Buckmir
DESCRIPTION:Connecticut native and author Dana Buckmir brings her story about surviving domestic violence and reclaiming her voice to Wilton Library during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. She also contributes to a biweekly dating column called\, Oh Dana that gives advice on relationship topics. Buckmir believes that storytelling not only entertains\, but reminds us that we are sharing a collective experience that makes us a little more connected and a little less lonely. This philosophy and her teaching background inspired her to create a workshop and coaching program\, Write your story: From Idea to Publication\, where she mentors aspiring authors. \nAnn Rodwell-Lawton is the Chief Operating Officer of the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC). Ann oversees DVCC’s community initiatives\, direct services programs\, and quality assurance efforts. Ann has worked in the fields of domestic violence and sexual violence for ten years. She integrates victim-centered approaches and brings a trauma-informed lens to the work at DVCC. \nBuckmir will be selling her book after the program and can accept cash\, check\, venmo\, or zelle as payment. \nCo-sponsored by Wilton Library\, the Domestic Violence Crisis Center\, the Wilton Domestic Violence Task Force\, the Riverbrook Regional YMCA\, the Wilton Police Department\, and Wilton Social Services. \nRegistration is required. SUMMARY:How to Declutter and Organize with the KonMari Method
DESCRIPTION:Certified Platinum KonMari Consultant Christine Thorn offers an informative and entertaining presentation at Wilton Library about the lifestyle benefits of the KonMari Method of tidying and decluttering. In her slideshow\, Thorn begins by discussing being inspired by Marie Kondo’s best-selling book\, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up\, and then studying with Kondo’s team in New York City to earn her certification as a consultant. In addition to detailing the life-changing benefits of KonMari’s category-by-category system of tidying\, Thorn explains how it focuses on keeping only those items which bring joy to your life\, rather than on what needs to be eliminated\, and discusses the importance of the fundamental KonMari question: Does this spark joy? She also details the KonMari Method’s six steps and how the process works\, as well as showing examples of transformations achieved in clients’ homes\, and demonstrating proper KonMari folding techniques. Thorn’s presentations include answering guests’ questions. \nRegistration is recommended. Please register on the Wilton Library website or call 203.762.6334.

SUMMARY:Sustainability in Fashion - Curating an Ethically Conscious Closet
DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library and Wilton Go Green for a panel discussion of Sustainability in Fashion. Did you know that Americans throw away nearly 11.3 million tons of textile waste each year? That equates to roughly 2\,150 pieces of clothing per second. Synthetic fabrics used in fast fashion account for one-fifth of all the plastic produced globally\, exposing us to forever chemicals and filling the oceans with microplastics. The average American only wears a garment 7-10 times before throwing it away. Only a very small percentage of discarded clothing is re-used or recycled. Come explore the effects of fast fashion on the environment and vulnerable populations on a global scale. There are ways each of us can shop smarter\, lengthen the life of our clothes and commit to brands who put the welfare of their employees and the planet first. Attendees can enter a drawing for a chance to win a private shopping party with 9 friends at the Turnover Shop! Style and shopping support as well as light snacks and refreshments provided. \nOur panel discussion includes Sandra Finkelstein\, Grace Lanning\, Sharon Sobel and Savonna Bocchino. \nSandra Finkelstein\, Creative and Strategic Fashion Brand Leader\, has deep expertise in the women’s\, men’s and kids apparel industry\, with over 35 years of successfully building powerful brand concepts. Grace Lanning\, Denim and Childrenswear Designer\, has over 15 years of experience in fashion design and has worked for companies such as Chaps Ralph Lauren\, Oshkosh B’Gosh and Kal Rieman. Sharon Sobel\, President of the Turnover Shop of Wilton Inc.\, has lived in Wilton for 38 years and has been President since 1991. Savona Bocchino is a junior at Wilton High School where she leads the WHS Green Team. Her interest in fashion and dedication to sustainability motivated her to launch her own Poshmark account in 9th grade aimed at reducing consumption. \nPlease register online or call 203.762.6334.
