SUMMARY:Kevin’s Afterglow: A Real Conversation About Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:Two days after the sudden death of Kevin Kuczo\, a vigil was held outside the family’s Fairfield County home. His parents\, James and Kristen Kuczo\, were asked to speak to the people gathered in support and to honor the memory of the 17-year-old high school junior.  It would be the first of many such talks\, where the thoughts and words never got any easier. They addressed the large\, hushed crowd with honesty and courage. “What happened to Kevin was a tragedy. No parent should ever have to go through this. The only bigger tragedy would be if this happened again\,” the family said. Then\, the Kuczos made a heartfelt appeal to those gathered: \n“If you could try to make someone’s life a little better\, try to be a little kinder\, a little more giving\, then you could make all the difference for someone who really needs it.” \nThe Kuczos didn’t realize it at the time\, but their mission of helping others had begun. They started a new movement\, rooted in kindness and giving\, that would soon influence their community. In the months that followed\, the Kuczos continued to speak at middle school and high school events\, as well as to the local media. They shared their message of kindness and compassion\, while raising awareness for the vital issue of mental health. With each interaction\, the positive impact of Kevin’s Afterglow grows brighter\, illuminating the strengths of human kindness\, respect and compassion. \nThey have created Kevin’s Afterglow to carry out a mission: to teach kids kindness\, empathy\, and the ability to listen to others…\, give to others\, educate parents and children on mental health\, help address the pediatric mental health crisis\, and get people to talk. \nPlease join Trackside Teen Center on Monday\, Feb. 13\, as Kevin Kuzco’s father Jim discusses the pressures facing kids today\, suicide warning signs\, actions to prevent suicide\, and the organization he established in Kevin’s honor. Donations of $10 are encouraged\, and all money raised will go directly to Kevin’s Afterglow. This is recommended for ages 12 years and up. \nThe event is being held by Trackside Teen Center in partnership with Wilton Pride\, the Town of Wilton/Wilton Social Services\, the Wilton Public Schools and Kevin’s Afterglow. \nSome information republished from the Kevin’s Afterglow website. \nIf you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts or a crisis\, help is available now. Call or text 988\, or chat 988lifeline.org. These services are free and confidential.

SUMMARY:Free Webinar: Not Your Mother's Hip Replacement [SPONSORED]
DESCRIPTION:Are you living with hip pain? If you are experiencing severe hip pain\, you may be considering a hip joint replacement. In this online presentation\, Jonathan Berliner\, MD\, an orthopedic surgeon\, joint replacement specialist and Director of the Orthopaedic & Neurosurgery Specialists (ONS) Outpatient Joint Replacement Center\, will discuss how the latest advances in hip joint replacement along with new techniques and technology make today’s procedures safer and require a shorter recovery period. Procedure outcomes now last longer than ever before. \nArthritis is the number one cause of disability in the U.S.\, impacting over 50 million Americans. Hip arthritis typically occurs in adults ages 45 and older\, when the cartilage that cushions the joint breaks down and eventually wears away. Characterized by pain and stiffness\, severe cases of arthritis can be profoundly debilitating. If conservative treatments for hip joint pain fail to bring relief or the pain is too severe\, hip replacement surgery may be recommended. Hip replacement surgery is a very successful procedure with high patient satisfaction. Patients report pain relief and restored mobility post-surgery. \nJoin the free Zoom webinar with Dr. Berliner on Wednesday\, July 13 from 6-7 p.m.

SUMMARY:Wilton Library: The Long and Short of Healthcare in the U.S.
DESCRIPTION:Join the Wilton Library in the Brubeck Room for myths\, misconceptions\, and uncomfortable truths about the way the U.S. Healthcare system does (and doesn’t) work – and what you can do about it. \nThis program is intended for mature and immature audiences and everyone in-between. The U.S. healthcare system is complex\, confusing\, and sometimes dysfunctional in ways that can be scary and dangerous to those whom it is supposed to serve. It often seems as if consumers are the last to be considered when it comes to how healthcare is delivered and paid for. The Wilton Library’s mission is to provide a framework for understanding why the system is the way it is and advice about how to deal effectively with it in a way that entertains as well as informs. \nMike Boswood – the ‘long’ of it – is former CEO of Truven Health Analytics\, Thomson Reuters Healthcare & Science\, Joint MD of Elsevier Science. Joe Magnano – the ‘short’ of it – is former Global Head Legal M&A\, Finance and Investments at Zurich Insurance Group. The speakers have decades of experience in understanding and explaining complicated business issues and are well versed in the intricacies of the healthcare and insurance industries. Their talk is intended for those who have experienced the challenges of grappling with healthcare in the U.S. and also for those who have yet to do so. Online registration is required.
