SUMMARY:Choral Concert: Music of the French Baroque
DESCRIPTION:Wilton’s own Music on the Hill presents an exquisite choral experience that will include the rarely performed works of French Baroque composer Marc Antoine Charpentier (1643-1704)\, including his “Te Deum\,” “Regina Caeli\,” and “Messe a 8 voix et 8 violons et flutes.” The festival and chamber choruses of Music on the Hill will be joined by organ\, trumpets\, strings and timpani in the acoustically rich and resonant church sanctuary. \nIt will be a special afternoon of music\, inspired by the lovely gardens and buildings of the Palais de Versailles\, where many of these musical gems were composed and/or originally performed in Charpentier’s lifetime. Living at virtually the same time as the Sun King\, Louis XIV (1638-1715)\, Charpentier and his music are representative of a distinctive era in French history\, when absolute monarchy reigned\, and France was widely recognized for its rich\, indulgent and breath-taking culture and arts–many say the greatest in French history.

SUMMARY:Summer Chorus–Request for Singers for Dvorak Concert
DESCRIPTION:Music on the Hill is inviting choral singers to join us Tuesdays/Thursdays in July to prepare for our Summer Chorus concert on July 25. No auditions are required; rehearsals and performance will be at Wilton’s St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. \nThis is the 17th year we are offering a great choral occasion for people who enjoy singing and whose regular choir/chorus may be taking the summer off. Come meet new people and enjoy a wonderful singing experience\, with strings\, brass and timpani accompaniment. Please register by June 30\, via email. \nWe will be singing Dvorak’s Te Deum and his Mass in D\, which are not frequently performed and yet lovely–he wrote them in anticipation of his move to NYC in the early 1890s. \nThe Summer Chorus of 60-plus voices meets each July to rehearse and perform a major choral-orchestral work. Participants–music professionals and skilled amateurs–include members of church and community choirs\, high school singers\, and those looking for a choral home. The Summer Chorus provides an opportunity for choral singers to perform a major work in summer when most choruses do not meet\, and it gives singers a chance to get to know others from many area towns and choruses. For more info see the Music on the Hill website and join our Facebook page.

SUMMARY:Summer Choral Concert: Dvorak's Te Deum and Mass in G
DESCRIPTION:Music on the Hill is pleased to present its 17th Annual Summer Chorus with the choral music of Czech composer Antonin Dvorak on Thursday\, July 25 . Works will be his Te Deum (Op. 103) and the Mass in D Major (Op. 86)\, both written in the 1890s as Dvorak turned his eye towards America and his time here. These treasures are not frequently performed and so provide a special experience for singers and audience alike to explore and celebrate his style and compositions. Strings\, brass and timpani will accompany the full chorus. \nThe concert will be at the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church\, from 8-9:30 p.m. on Thursday July 25. A suggested donation of $20/person is suggested but not required. We welcome all who appreciate gorgeous choral works. \nQuestions? Contact artistic director Ellen Dickinson via email or call 203.529.3133. \nMusic on the Hill’s Summer Chorus of 60-plus voices meets each July to rehearse and perform a major choral-orchestral work. Participants–music professionals and skilled amateurs–include members of church and community choirs\, high school singers\, and those looking for a choral home. SUMMARY:Food Truck Festival–Trackside Teen Center Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Wilton will feed its collective belly\, as Trackside Teen Center will feed its financial need\, all with the 2nd Annual Wilton Food Truck Festival\, scheduled for Saturday\, Aug. 17. The community event has quickly become one of the organizations largest fundraisers\, something organizers say is especially needed to help with center’s financial challenges and a severe budget deficit. \nUp to 20 food trucks will return to Miller-Driscoll School on Aug. 17 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; in addition to a wide variety of meals on wheels\, the event will feature local musicians\, kid friendly entertainment and over a dozen vendors to delight and entertain attendees throughout the day. \nEntry is $10 per car. \nTrackside Teen Center\, as a private non-profit\, is the uniquely valuable place for Wilton teens. The center provides free drop-in hours after school and runs a number of programs ranging from arts to improv\, gaming to self-esteem development for pre- teens and teens in grades 6–12. As a safe place that is not home\, and not school\, organization official call Trackside the ‘in-between’–where pre-teens and teens can come to socialize\, explore new interests\, meet new friends and most importantly just be themselves in a supervised environment.

SUMMARY:87th Cannon Grange Agricultural Fair & Exposition
DESCRIPTION:An authentic agricultural fair\, the Cannon Grange Ag Fair is the only fair of its kind in lower Fairfield County! Area residents are invited to exhibit a variety of baked goods and culinary arts\, homegrown vegetables\, fruit\, flowers\, hand crafts\, sewing & needlework\, photography\, small farm animals\, eggs and photography. \nThe Cannon Grange Fair recalls Wilton’s rural and agrarian past\, and provides an opportunity for children\, youth\, adults and families to enjoy the exhibits inside the historic Grange Hall and on its grounds located in the heart of Cannondale Village. Several state-level baking contests are available from the Association of CT Fairs with their Adult Baking\, Junior Baking and 2-Crust Apple Pie Contests. Both concessionaires and area Non-Profits will also show on the fair grounds. \nA new baking contest is being inaugurated in 2019 with the “Dave Barrett–Cannon Grange Perpetual Trophy” contest. Dave and his wife Joyce have been avid fair participants\, having won many baking contests in previous years. Dave succumbed to illness last year and we’ve renamed this special contest in Dave’s memory. \nFind a Fair Book\, with all the rules and requirements for submitting entries\, at area merchants\, or online.
