DESCRIPTION:Join expert birder\, conservationist\, master gardener and Wilton resident Joe Bear for this free series of three fall migration bird walks at Allen’s Meadow. Millions of birds journey south to their wintering grounds this time of year\, some staying in Connecticut\, some traveling as far away as the pampas grasslands of South America.  Bear will lead walkers on a leisurely two-hour walk through the diverse habitats this well-known CT birding hot spot has to offer — open fields and meadow\, woodland edges\, the community gardens (which are often teaming with migrants)\, and the new native pollinator meadow. Fall sightings in recent years have included bobolinks\, dickcissels\, indigo buntings\, a variety of warblers\, orioles\, flycatchers and sparrows\, as well as several species of soaring raptors including bald eagles. \nRegister online. \n\nThe walk is drizzle or shine. Participants should bring binoculars and park in front of Field 6 sign.

DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Garden Club will dedicate its new Bee Resilient Garden at Hillside Cemetery and Arboretum on Tuesday\, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend the event and learn more about the garden and the important role native plants play in supporting pollinators and local wildlife. \nPartially funded with a Bee Resilient Garden Grant from the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut\, the garden was designed as a contemplative space for people visiting loved ones at the cemetery. \nThe garden features several of ecologist Doug Tallamy’s keystone plants\, along with a variety of native perennial pollinator plants\, including milkweed. These plants provide valuable habitat and food for our native bees\, butterflies and other pollinators\, while the milkweed provides essential support for visiting monarch butterflies. \nThe garden demonstrates how even a small\, thoughtfully designed native-plant garden can provide meaningful benefits for both people and pollinators.

DESCRIPTION:May the best duck win!\n\nWe’re proud to announce the Fifth Annual Norwalk River Duck Race in celebration of our community and the Norwalk River!\n\nLearn how to cast a fly rod\, learn about some exciting river restoration projects and of course\, watch your rubber duck race it’s way downstream!\n\nDucks cost $25 an entry and 100% of the proceeds go towards Trout Unlimited‘s conservation mission to restore the Norwalk River.\n\nRubber ducks will launch simultaneously over the Schenck’s Island bridge (across from Stop & Shop) at 10:45 a.m. sharp and race through the Norwalk River. They will hit some bumpy currents along the way\, encounter some real ducks and wildlife but easily cruise to the finish line at a marked spot! The race takes approximately 15-20 mins and participants will be able to follow along from either the street sidewalk\, island side or wait at the marked finish line. First duck to the finish line wins a prize!

DESCRIPTION:Join the Norwalk River Watershed Association for this series of free spring migration bird walks led by expert birder\, conservationist\, master gardener and Wilton resident Joe Bear. Bear will lead everyone on a leisurely two-hour walk from 8-10 a.m. through the diverse habitats this well-known birding hot spot has to offer — open fields\, woods\, woodland edges\, pond\, and swamp — to seek out returning summer residents\, those on their way to northern breeding grounds\, and maybe a vagrant or two. Previous spring walks have yielded a wide variety of species\, including both Orchard and Baltimore Orioles\, Bobolink\, Indigo Bunting\, Scarlet Tanager\, Eastern Kingbird\, Rose-breasted Grosbeak\, Flycatchers\, Vireos\, and a variety of colorful Warblers.  You’ll get a chance to see up close Eastern Bluebirds and Tree Swallows vying for one of the 12 nest boxes erected by Bear in and around the Little Bluestem meadow.  Bear will also talk about the new native pollinator meadow he’s been working on since 2021.\n\nPlease register using the attached link\, and park in front of the Field 6 sign at Allen’s Meadow.\n\nThis event takes place:\nWed. The Annuals Committee will also be providing bespoke garden solutions with a new service to help shoppers select specialized plants for container gardening\, and even pot their selections on-site in compostable paper pulp planters. DESCRIPTION:Did you know that black tea\, green tea\, white tea and oolong tea all come from the same plant? Learn about how these different teas are made and what gives them their unique\, subtle flavors and characteristics! Woodcock Nature Center educator Tommy McCarthy will lead the group on a short guided hike along the Woodcock trails and then through a relaxing tasting session of three or more different types of loose leaf tea including Japanese green tea\, Taiwanese oolong tea\, and Chinese black tea\, brewed in traditional tea ceremony style in our pavilion. ​ \nRegistration is required\, at $55 per person. This event is recommended for ages 13 and up.

Even furry family members will enjoy some goodies along the trek. \nTrek\, taste and discover with Woodcock! \n​\nTickets are available for specific start times (attendees must arrive at the start of the session; walk-up tickets will be available only if space allows): 12- 2 p.m.; 12:15-2:15 p.m.; 3-5 p.m.; 3:15-5:15 p.m.; 5:45-7:45 p.m.; and 6-8 p.m. Pre-purchase ticket sales ends at midnight Friday\, Apr. 24 (check the Woodcock website for updates on availability). \n\nTickets are $57 for adult (21+) tickets\, and $27 for kids (3 and up) and spectators. Admission for 21+ includes: one souvenir tasting glass per 21+ ticket purchased; a one-of-a-kind trek through the woods and wetlands of Woodcock with beer and soda sampling at five stations along the way; complimentary soda tasting\, music\, snacks and water. Additional food\, beer and soda are available for purchase. Non-21+ ticket holders may enjoy everything except the alcohol. \n\n​
