DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Woman’s Club will kick off its 2024-25 year on Tuesday\, Sept. 10 with a Kick Off the Season Party at Old Town Hall at 6 p.m. All are welcome to come together to catch up with old friends\, meet new friends\, and hear about club plans for the upcoming year. \nThe club will focus this year on strengthening social bonds among community members in Wilton. Each month includes Dinner Club get-togethers\, Lunch Club get-togethers\, Wednesday morning walks on the NRVT Trail\, Book Club meeting nights\, and regular monthly club meetings. Visit the website for details\, to join\, and to RSVP. \nA highlight again this year will be a small-group trip to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx\, led by none other than Arthur Avenue expert and Wilton First Selectman Toni Boucher. On that day\, the group will tour bakeries\, delicatessens\, shops\, and eat together at one of the many delicious and authentic Italian restaurants there. \nThe Wilton Woman’s Club was founded in 1966 by Betty Sternad and friends.  Since the start\, the club has contributed to the common good through different community service projects. Today\, the WWC is the only group that goes to the CT Food Bank each week to bring fresh meat and produce to the Wilton Food Pantry. The club also serves lunch to seniors at Ogden House and makes meals at holiday times to deliver to homebound residents. \nLast April\, the WWC held its 15th Annual Fashion Show Fundraiser at Rolling Hills Country Club and raised almost $25\,000 to donate to Waveny-Visiting Nurse & Hospice to provide professional caregiver respite. The 2025 beneficiary will be announced on Dec. 4 at the WWC Holiday Lunch. \n“We look forward to meeting more women in Wilton this year\, contributing to the community\, and strengthening bonds. Come join us and meet a whole new group of people! We look forward to seeing you\,” WWC President Maria Wilcox said.

SUMMARY:WLA/SCORE: Simple Steps to a Well-Run Business — Operate
DESCRIPTION:The first session of this three-part workshop series at Wilton Library focuses on the current state of a business — the people and the numbers. This will discuss how to better understand the financials and key metrics\, as well as optimizing relationships with the business’ people: employees\, clients and suppliers. \nWhat will be covered:\n– Understanding the relationship between profitability and cash flow — and why to focus on both\n– Visualizing key trends\n– Identifying key metrics that define your business\n– Tools to track your financial information\n–  Why relationships are key to business success\n– Noting the various relationships your business has: employees\, customers\, vendors\, and how to maximize them\nNote*: The intended participants for these three workshops are growing and established business owners. \nRobert Harvey developed and scaled two business systems from inception during his business career. He built one of the largest fence contractors in his twenties and thirties by capturing over 26% of all new home fences in Ontario. Harvey replicated university student trained fence companies to do this. In his forties and fifties\, Harvey dominated the internet for healthcare products in the senior home accessibility field. The utilization of over 100 keywords in Google for more than a decade developed into a lead generation business. This resulted in excess of 200\,000 leads that covered 85% of North America with 200 affiliates. In addition\, Harvey was able to develop over 22 Silver Cross locations. His company was purchased by a publicly traded company on the TSX (SIS). Specialties: Franchise development\, market share penetration\, website SEO\, salesforce customization and business model replication. \nSee event listing online for registration link.

SUMMARY:WLA/SCORE: Target Marketing — Fishing with a Spear\, not a Net
DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Library for a small business presentation hosted by SCORE on Target Marketing. Historically\, the classic “sales funnel” characterizes the “sales lead generation” process. With this technique\, the seller casts a wide net over a large group of prospective customers with hopes of connecting with interested clients. Today’s digital world and related resources provide the seller with the means to implement more effective “targeted” marketing. Thus\, a specific benefit message is provided to a better-defined audience. \nDuring the workshop\, attendees will:\n– Examine the “traditional” approach to lead generation (“sales funnel”) and its implications and limitations\n– Present an alternative “targeted” approach to lead generation and its benefits\n– Discuss the importance of differentiating the product or service they offer to enable their competitive advantage rather than competitive price\n– Present ways they might differentiate their product/service\, and provide several examples to illustrate this concept\n– Discuss how to use their competitive advantage(s) to identify best target customers\n– Review the benefits derived from ‘Target Marketing’ vs. traditional sales lead generation \nPeter Engstrom is the founder and Managing Director of Mainly Marketing\, a consulting firm increasing businesses marketing effectiveness and sales profits for more than 30 years. Clients have included EG&G\, Cutler-Hammer\, EATON\, Kollmorgen\, Panasonic\, and others. As the SCHMERSAL USA and STEUTE Meditech founder and COO\, he profitably grew both into market share leaders in North America. Engstrom is also an Adjunct Professor in the Jack Welch College of Business at Sacred Heart University teaching various undergraduate and graduate marketing courses. \nRegistration is suggested online. SUMMARY:Wilton Library’s Human Library–POSTPONED
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED \n“Don’t judge a book by its cover”—but in this case\, we mean human beings\, not books! Our human books are community members who have volunteered to share their stories in order to break down barriers based on appearance or identity (e.g.; age\, race\, sexual orientation\, religion\, ability\, lifestyle choices\, etc.). The Human Library is an international movement that started in Denmark in 2000 and is now held in more than 70 countries. Wilton Library is the first non-academic library in Connecticut to receive permission from the Human Library Organization to host an event. This is the time for open conversations between two people in a non-judgmental environment. Spend a few minutes with each “book.”  It is an opportunity for those who have faced prejudice to tell their story and show people who they really are; and it is a chance for others to change their preconceived notions based on a person’s appearance or identity. No advance registration; no fee. Come and enjoy the experience.
