SUMMARY:Trekking Together — Migrating Bird Guided Nature Hike
DESCRIPTION:This hike starts and ends at the Woodcock Nature Center’s Orange Trail Trailhead\, located at the end of Gilly Lane\, Wilton. \nWilton Land Trust’s guided hike is in celebration of World Migratory Bird Day! Among birders\, this is known as the Global Big Day — a day to get out and see as many bird species as possible! Together\, participants will walk the trail across Spectacle Lane and into the Wilton Land Trust’s Spectacle Lane Trail to look and listen for birds\, and learn about the forest and its various habitats. \nWLT’s Executive Director will help attendees see the forest through the trees and Woodcock educator and birding enthusiast Tommy McCarthy will share his knowledge of all the species encountered. \nSo\, grab a water bottle\, supportive shoes\, tick and bug repellant\, a camera\, and binoculars\, and join WLT and Woodcock for a morning of adventure and learning. And don’t forget — leave furry friends at home\, so they don’t scare away any potential wildlife! \nThe Wilton Conservation Trust is a community-focused nonprofit organization that conserves land\, protects biodiversity\, enhances ecosystems\, and builds community. \nThe Woodcock Nature Center has been a source of environmental and nature education since 1972. They work to instill a love and respect for nature and serve as a resource for educating the community about our natural surroundings.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Wilton Historical Society for an afternoon filled with delicious teas\, delectable bites\, gorgeous flowers and memories created with loved ones! \nThe classic Afternoon Tea is a tradition born around 1840 when members of the British aristocracy felt the need to fill the long gap between the lunch and dinner menus. Consequently\, afternoon tea accompanied by a delicate snack became a staple and symbol of both the Victorian period and the wealth of the British Empire. As the popularity of the service grew\, certain utensils\, menus\, and etiquette developed along with it. \nThe Wilton Historical Society is excited to present their very own Victorian Tea Service on May 11 from 1 – 3 p.m.. Guests will enjoy a beautifully decorated tent in the courtyard of the Society’s campus. Also find all of the classically magnificent details expected from a 19th century tea service. A Dash of Salt will provide delicious teas and bites alongside a presentation on the History of Tea with an expert from Bigelow Tea. \nWildbloom Skincare and Bigelow Tea generously sponsor this event. \nWild Roses and Blooms generously provide the flowers and arrangements. \nTickets are $60 per person for Wilton Historical Society Members; $75 per person for Non-Members. DESCRIPTION:The Fairfield County Writers Group\, founded in 2011\, has been supporting and helping writers in the county with regular write-ins and accelerated events during the National Novel Writing Month season. The group is a non-profit and has no membership fees or dues. The community is made up of a variety of writers at different stages of their writing adventure. \nThe group has monthly write-ins and will have group meetings at the Wilton Library on the second Saturday of each month. DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Teen Library Council (TLC) is a monthly group for youth in grades 6-12 who are interested in becoming more involved with the library. All Wilton teens are welcome. Benefits include: helping librarians choose teen materials\, brainstorming ideas for teen programs\, gaining experience working in a leadership role\, and helping the community through service projects. \nEach meeting will consist of a small group activity and discussion of upcoming events. The group will meet the second Tuesday of each month and participants are encouraged to attend all meetings. Together\, with the American Chestnut Foundation and our wonderful community\, we’re expanding our Germplasm Conservation Orchard to help save the American Chestnut Tree. With your help\, we will plant and cage 20 trees\, bringing the total to 80! \nEvent Details:  Sunday\, May 19\, at 1 p.m. at Chestnut Meadows Preserve (183 Ridgefield Rd.) (Rain date is Sunday\, June 2) \nItinerary: \n\n1-1:15 p.m.: arrive and get settled\n1:15-1:30 p.m.: Opening speeches from WLT and ACF\n1:30-4:30: Plant the chestnut trees and install deer exclosure fencing\n\nParking:  Please come early and carpool. Parking at Chestnut Meadows Preserve is limited\, with extra parking at our neighbor\, the Hillside Cemetery (165 Ridgefield Rd.).
