DESCRIPTION:The kids had so much fun at last year’s Mini Golf fundraiser\, that Wilton Library is holding one for adults\, only with food and libations and prizes to win. Teams of foursomes will compete on the 18-hole Mini-Golf Course while friends and fans cheer them on. Putters and balls will be provided. \nTickets are available for foursomes for $300; couples for $150 or singles for $75. Couples and singles will be assigned to foursomes by the library. Spectator tickets are available at $50 per person to cheer on the teams. Food and libations included. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 203.762.6321. SUMMARY:The Scoop on Psych Testing:  What do All Those Numbers Really Mean?
DESCRIPTION:Licensed clinical psychologist Caley Schwartz\, PhD will present an overview of common areas examined in psychological and psycho-educational testing\, including IQ\, achievement\, memory\, executive functioning\, social communication\, and development. She will discuss the significance of psych testing\, what information can be gained from it\, how to interpret the numbers you see in the reports\, and how important comprehensive recommendations based on the conclusions of the testing are for appropriate interventions and support services. \nDr. Schwartz earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Miami and completed a two-year Fellowship at the Yale Child Study Center\, where she received generalist and autism-specific training. Upon completion of her postdoctoral training\, Dr. Schwartz became a faculty member within the Autism Program at the Yale Child Study Center. In addition\, she completed a certification in Clinical Issues in Adoption\, developed jointly by the CT Department of Children and Families\, the UCONN School of Social Work\, and Southern CT State University. Currently\, Dr. Schwartz is a Clinical Instructor at the Yale Child Study Center. \nIn her Ridgefield\, CT\, private practice\, Schwartz provides comprehensive psycho-educational and psychological evaluations\, as well as diagnostic evaluations requested by both parents and school systems. \nThe presentation is at 10 a.m.-noon at Comstock Community Center (180 School Rd.\, Wilton). On that day you will choose a tree and hang your bucket that will collect sap. We will send regular updates on the running of the sap so you can come to the Farm to collect sap from your tree. We will boil down the sap in our sugar shack and send each family home with their very own bottle of Ambler Farm maple syrup. \nThe season runs from early February to mid-March. Maple syrup production is winter farming and\, therefore\, weather dependent. A typical season is five weeks long. If you are traveling during February or March\, we will collect sap for you.\nEnrollment is limited. This program sold out quickly in previous years\, so please do not wait to sign up! \nRegistration is now open to everyone\, space permitting. \nThe cost to participate is $65 per non-member family\, $60 per member family.

DESCRIPTION:If you are designing a pollinator garden\, you will be happy to learn about the role trees and shrubs can play in the lives of honey bees and native pollinators and ways to incorporate them in your plans. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the presentation by Margery Winters at the Wilton Library on Wednesday\, March 13. Winters is the assistant director and instructor at Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton\, CT and manages their native plant gardens. She is also past chairman of the Federated Garden Club Landscape Design Study Program and a Master Landscape Design Consultant. \nWinters also serves as chairman on Simsbury Inland Wetland/Conservation Commission\, is a member the Simsbury Open Space Committee\, and the vice president of the Simsbury Land Trust. Margery has been actively involved in Connecticut’s river and land issues and worked on staff with a statewide river advocacy organization. \nThis lecture will also serve as the kickoff for the Community Canopy Program–Energy Saving Trees\, offering residents the opportunity to buy native trees through the Arbor Day Foundation in collaboration with the US Department of Forestry. \nThere is no charge to attend. The program is co-sponsored by Wilton Library\, the Wilton Tree Committee and the Conservation Commission in collaboration with the Wilton Garden Club\, Wilton Land Conservation Trust\, Norwalk River Watershed Association and Woodcock Nature Center. SUMMARY:Wilton Go Green's 2nd Annual Zero Waste Faire
DESCRIPTION:Wilton Go Green’s 2nd Annual Zero Waste Faire is a special event designed to educate\, inspire\, entertain\, and engage the town of Wilton and neighboring communities about zero waste living. By sharing information and ideas from speakers\, exhibitors\, media\, and discussions of current issues\, the Faire will help advance Zero Waste practices that benefit everyone. \nThe event will again feature a broad range of interactive exhibits to help Wilton and Fairfield County become more conscious about and involved in practicing Zero Waste living.There will be exhibits from museums\, aquariums\, and environmental organizations with many fun\, educational activities. This year’s Faire will feature more exhibitors demonstrating and selling products\, such as reusable drinking straws\, compost bins and reusable beeswax food wrap. \nNew features–like the Fix-It-Café\, a Zero Waste Store\, the Eco Fashion Show\, a Zero Waste Tiny Home and The Problem with Single Use Plastics exhibit–will add more value to the Faire. For example\, the “Fix-It-Café” will enable attendees to bring clothing in need of repair and small appliances to get fixed on-site or taken offsite for fixing; the exhibit\, “The Problem with Single Use Plastics\,” will educate the community about the negative effects of plastic on oceans\, animals and the environment\, and will offer alternatives for plastic in and outside the home. \nExhibit categories will range from home composting\, backyard farming\, zero-waste cooking\, recycling\, and food storage. There will also be a Zero Waste Feast\, games for children\, entertainment and guest speakers. \n\n\n\nAttendees are also encouraged to Recycle right at the Faire\, by bringing old electronics\, furniture and hard drives. \nNo single use plastic water bottles will be sold\, so attendees should bring their own reusable water bottle/coffee tumbler or consider buying one at the Faire. \nThe event is hosted by Wilton Go Green and organized by dynamic volunteers.
