SUMMARY:Late Night @ Trackside
DESCRIPTION:Select Friday nights each month from 8-10:30 p.m.\, Trackside Teen Center transforms in a salon-like setting for high school students only. \nThis initiative\, created by two of our high school leaders who plan\, execute and oversee all aspects of this offering\, is an opportunity for our teens to have a space to enjoy and express themselves. \nWhat happens at Late Night? \nStudents use the space as they like. SUMMARY:Free Youth Gardening Program at Trackside
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a budding youth gardener?  The free Green Teens youth gardening program’s spring sessions have started at Trackside Teen Center. All rising middle and high school students are welcome. No gardening experience is necessary — just an interest in nature and in helping others\, as the program is rooted (no pun intended!) in community service. The summer session of the program is held Mondays\, 9-11 a.m. from June 23-Aug 11. Sign up any time. \nAn initiative of the Wilton Garden Club (WGC) and Trackside Teen Center\, Green Teens is led by experienced WGC gardeners. Its participants engage in hands-on activities like designing garden beds\, planting\, maintaining\, harvesting as well as learning about pollinators and how to cook with the produce grown in their gardens. They also hear from occasional guest speakers and make creative garden art projects. All of the produce grown is donated weekly to the Wilton Food Pantry and the fresh flowers grown are cut and arranged for the Wilton Senior Center. \n“Green Teens goal is to get more young people involved with creating and maintaining vegetable gardens\, to teach them about the importance of healthy foods\, and to give back to the community\,” Laurie Musilli\, co-chair of WGC’s youth gardening committee\, said. “There’s something in this program for everyone.” \nTo register\, contact Musilli via email or Pam Nobumoto via email. Sign-ups are welcome at any time; registration is ongoing. For more information visit the Green Teens page on the Trackside website.

The program is held Wednesdays from 3:30-5 p.m. at Trackside\, from May 14-June 11. Sign up any time. The summer session Mondays 9-11 a.m. from June 23-Aug 11.

SUMMARY:DVCC 23rd Annual Voices of Courage Spring Luncheon [SPONSORED]
DESCRIPTION:The Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) will host its 23rd Annual Voices of Courage Spring Luncheon on Thursday\, May 15\, at Tokeneke Club in Darien. This year’s keynote will be given by nationally-recognized speaker and advocate Ashley Bendiksen\, who will share her personal journey as a survivor of teen dating violence and speak to the critical need for prevention\, awareness and community support at all levels. Tickets and sponsorships for the event may be purchased on the Domestic Violence Crisis Center’s Voices of Courage webpage. \nWith a message rooted in both lived experience and field expertise\, Bendiksen will explore the complex dynamics of intimate partner violence — what makes it difficult to leave\, the red flags young people often miss\, and what she wishes she had known earlier. She will also address how families\, schools and communities can better support youth and survivors of all ages through prevention education\, open dialogue and advocacy. \n“In sharing my story\, I hope to empower others — especially young people — to recognize unhealthy relationships early\, speak up and know they’re not alone\,” Bendiksen said. “Education and awareness can change\, and even save\, lives.” \nBendiksen is a sought-after expert on domestic violence\, uniquely specializing in how abuse impacts youth. She has spoken at leading conferences\, including NOVA (National Organization for Victim Assistance) and the National Coalition to End Sexual Exploitation (CESE)\, and has delivered expert testimony in support of a Massachusetts bill mandating employment protections for victims of abuse. Bendiksen is also the founder of the Blue Hearts Project\, a global storytelling platform for survivors\, and was featured in an award-winning documentary. Additionally\, Bendiksen serves on the Board of Directors for the Women’s Resource Center and co-owns Island Youth Coaching\, a consulting and life coaching agency dedicated to supporting and empowering youth. Learn more on Bendiksen’s website. \n“All too often\, people think domestic violence doesn’t happen in Fairfield County — but I can tell you it does\,” DVCC CEO Suzanne Adam said. “Voices of Courage is not only a fabulous event\, it is critical to our mission. Funds raised from the luncheon ensure we will be there to answer the call when a domestic violence victim needs our services.” \nLast year\, DVCC provided direct services to 3\,619 survivors of domestic violence across Stamford\, Norwalk\, Darien\, New Canaan\, Weston\, Westport and Wilton. All proceeds from the luncheon will benefit DVCC’s mission to provide effective services\, support and education for the prevention and elimination of domestic violence in Connecticut communities. \nDVCC offers a full range of services including crisis intervention through its 24-hour hotline and two emergency safe houses\, adult and youth counseling\, legal advocacy\, housing and financial sustainability\, and prevention education. All services are free and confidential.
