SUMMARY:Ambler Farm Tap-A-Tree Maple Syrup Program
DESCRIPTION:Learn the science and history of maple syruping by being a hands-on part of the process. There will be two training sessions offered; only ONE session is required for training. On that day you will choose a tree and hang your bucket that will collect sap. We will send regular updates on the running of the sap so you can come to the Farm to collect sap from your tree. We will boil down the sap in our sugar shack and send each family home with their very own bottle of Ambler Farm maple syrup. \nThe season runs from early February to mid-March. Maple syrup production is winter farming and\, therefore\, weather dependent. A typical season is five weeks long. If you are traveling during February or March\, we will collect sap for you.\nEnrollment is limited. This program sold out quickly in previous years\, so please do not wait to sign up! \nRegistration is now open to everyone\, space permitting. \nThe cost to participate is $65 per non-member family\, $60 per member family.

SUMMARY:Sharp Hill Cemetery Walk for Kids
DESCRIPTION:Sharp Hill Cemetery dates back to c. 1738 when it replaced the long lost original burying ground on Wolfpit Rd.\, and was Wilton’s principal burying place until the mid-1800s. The earliest legible stone is that of Mable Elmer with a date of January 1744. Twenty-three Revolutionary War and six French and Indian War veterans are buried here. \nParticipants will meet at the Wilton Historical Society at 11 a.m.\, then the group will walk together with museum educator Laurie Walker to the cemetery and talk about the history of the cemetery and the lives of some of the people buried there. After returning to the Historical Society\, the kids will help make their own snack\, ginger cookies decorated like headstones. \nSuggested for ages 6-12. The cost for Wilton Historical Society members is $10/child\, with a maximum of $25/family; non-members are $15/child\, maximum $35/family. Please register via email or call 203.762.7257. \nDid You Know?\nAccording to Wilton historian Bob Russell\, “The Sharp Hill Cemetery\, owned by the Wilton Congregational Church\, is the oldest surviving cemetery in Wilton\, dating from 1738. That year\, John Marvin gave 64 square rods (4/10 of an acre) to the “Presbyterian or Congregational Society of Wilton” as the site of a meeting house for the worship of God\, as the Society had outgrown the small building in which they had started 12 years earlier. The cemetery was to surround the new meeting house. Although the church building which was built there only lasted until 1790\, the cemetery was used actively until the mid-1800s and then was gradually replaced by Hillside Cemetery on Ridgefield Road\, which had the advantage of more space.”

From Field to Fork\, with author Cristina Lombardozzi and Ridgefield farmer Pete Campbell \nJoin us for an afternoon of great food and engaging discussion about the many health benefits of eating locally sourced\, sustainable foods that also nourish the soul. \nEnjoy samples from recipes in Lombardozzi’s new cookbook\, Nourished. From Field to Fork\, inspired by visits to Campbell’s Horseshoe Farm. Using Campbell’s fresh produce\, the book showcases recipes that align with the low-allergen\, low-inflammation eating style Lombardozzi recommends to her clients. \nLearn more about her approach to eating and wellness developed from her experience as a certified nutritional coach\, an AFAA certified personal trainer\, and a spinning and TRX training instructor. \nGuests will also sip Campbell’s famous margarita while hearing about his commitment to growing sustainable food and re-connecting with nature before heading home with a special gift. \nTickets are $75 apiece\, which includes food and drink. Cookbooks are available for purchase at the event for $35. \nProceeds benefit community programs at Woodcock Nature Center.
