DESCRIPTION:Wilton’s biggest trucks are rolling in for the 2019 Touch-A-Truck community event\, hosted by the Children’s Day School of Wilton (CDSW). \nOn Saturday\, May 18\, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Middlebook Middle School (131 School Rd.)\, kids of all ages will have the opportunity to get up close\, climb on\, and take photos with cars and trucks all shapes and sizes. Look for police cars\, ambulance\, dump trucks\, school buses\, big rigs\, and so much more. \nIn addition to exploring the variety of cars and trucks\, kids will have the opportunity to experience Robbie’s Ranch petting zoo\, take a ride on the Roaming Railroad\, be amazed by the balloon animals from Twisty Bros\, take photos with their favorite princesses from A Moment of Magic Foundation\, get a glitter tattoo or their face painted\, listen to music and jump in the bounce houses\, just to name a few of the family-friendly activities. \nIt can get pretty loud during the event; for families with sensitivity to noise\, visit during the quiet hour from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.\, with no horns or sirens. \nTouch-a-Truck would not be possible without the generous donations from Wilton-based community organizations. This year’s premier sponsors include Melissa & Doug and ASML. \nThe community event is rain or shine! Admission is $30/family. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. Concessions will be available. DESCRIPTION:Join former first selectman and Wilton historian Bob Russell on a walking tour of the Wilton Historical Society’s preserved buildings at Lambert Corner. To be held on Saturday\, June 8 at 11 a.m.\, the hour-long guided tour includes Lambert House (formerly known as “Lilacstead”)\, which was built on the site c.1726\, and eight other buildings moved there in order to preserve them–the Lambert Cottage\, Kent District School\, Hurlbutt Street Country Store and Post Office\, Wilton Railroad Station\, Davenport Barn\, Cannon Family General Store\, the 18th century Cannon Family Corn Crib\, and the not-to-be-missed George Davenport Greek Revival Privy.  The entire site comprises Wilton’s Historic District #1. \nThe group will set out from the porch of the Historical Christmas Barn. All are welcome\, at no charge. \nRussell\, the author of Wilton\, Connecticut: Three Centuries of People\, Places\, and Progress\, will share some of the interesting stories of the people associated with the buildings. He may well recount the details from a chapter in his book concerning “the most sensational crime in Wilton’s history\, which took place in December 1897\, when the last Wilton member of one of the town’s most prominent families\, a quiet unassuming gentleman schoolteacher\, David S. Lambert\, was shot down in cold blood in his home\, the Lambert House.” \nThe buildings at Lambert Corner were moved to the site of the original Lambert homestead\, at the intersection of Rtes. 7 and 33\, over the past 40 years. Most of the buildings are now used as shops and offices. The Wilton Historical Society was a pioneer in what is now called adaptive re-use–updating historic structures for contemporary use. The Society has rescued\, in total\, 18 buildings typical of a New England rural community on three campuses in Wilton\, all visible from Rte. 7. \nThe tour will end at noon at the Historical Christmas Barn store (150 Danbury Rd.). Following the walk\, there will be refreshments\, providing time for chatting with neighbors and representatives of the collaborating conservation-oriented organizations. \nAll are welcome\, including dogs on leash. Directions to the park are as follows:  From the junction of Rtes. 7 and 106\, follow Rte. 106 east for one mile to Cherry Lane. Turn right (south) on Cherry Lane; park entrance is 0.3 miles on the left (east side of the road). All the action is on the sports fields at the Wilton High School complex along Kristine Lilly Way. \nThe evening begins at 5 p.m. with a live DJ and food trucks\, and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m..  \nThe Parks and Recreation Department will be selling 4th of July Patron Parking Passes through July 3. Parking passes may be obtained by visiting the Parks and Recreation Office (180 School Rd.). Office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m..
