DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Playshop is excited to present a virtual reading of The Fair Sex. This new dramedy by Patti Azzara tells the story of the Mitchell family\, a salt-of-the-earth collective of tough love\, tolerance\, and old wounds that won’t heal. Directed by Dandy Barrett\, The Fair Sex will be live-streamed on Saturday\, May 22 at 7 p.m. The play is produced by Sarah Lee Michaels with technical direction by Laura Ploss. \nKate Mitchell loves her family: her parents\, Harlan and Evelyn; brothers\, Ray and Benny; even her sister Gail\, though it has become more and more difficult as they’ve gotten older. When Kate returns to her childhood home to celebrate her parents’ 40th wedding anniversary\, she barely has one foot in the door before the dating advice\, career guidance\, and religious criticism start rolling in. It isn’t long before deeply-buried truths are uncovered\, and the Mitchells are faced with a decision: come together\, or fall apart for good. \nRefreshing and light-hearted despite the gravity of the subject matter\, The Fair Sex is a play that reminds us that women are always stronger than they seem. \nThe diverse and stellar cast includes Equity actors Mike Boland and Quinn Warren\, London-based actor Joe Staton\, and CT and NYC-based actors Avery Banks\, George Barnett\, Tamara Christians\, Heather Haneman\, Anthony Malchar\, Kellen Schult\, and Priscilla Squiers. \nThe Wilton Playshop will be offering this livestream reading at no cost. Feel free to put on your colonial dress to support our revolutionary patriots! Wilton Garden Club will be celebrating Daffodil Festival and we have partnered with them\, so you might see us around the Wilton Historical Society dressed up as well! Wilton Library will display books on patriots\, as well as books on the Battles of Lexington and Concord. \nPatriots’ Day\, the third Monday in the Month of April commemorates the Battles of Lexington and Concord\, also known as the “shots heard round the world.” Massachusetts observes Patriots’ Day with the running of the Boston Marathon. Other states observing Patriots’ Day include Maine\, Wisconsin\, Connecticut (2018)\, North Dakota (2019)\, and Florida. As America leads up to her 250th birthday in 2026\, Drum Hill DAR is launching a Patriots’ Day Initiative. We have many fun and some solemn activities planned. We hope you will join us!

SUMMARY:A Broadway to Holiday Cabaret
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the holiday season with the Wilton Playshop’s complimentary livestream of A Broadway to Holiday Cabaret. Featuring a superb mix of musical theater and jazz singers\, this cabaret will feature your holiday favorites and a variety of jazz and Broadway hits. Hosted by Wilton native and singer Sarah Lee Michaels\, the show will be livestreamed on Sunday\, Dec. 20\, at 3 p.m. EST. \nThe impressive lineup of talent includes performers from coast to coast\, “across the pond\,” and our own backyard! Joining from London will be special guest Crazy Coqs cabaret club owner and cabaret singer Harold Sanditen who is also the host of the award-winning “Harold Sanditen’s Open Mic Party.” From Seattle\, Washington\, comes cabaret singer Judy Ann Moulton who has wowed audiences with her big band Judy Garland tribute\, “Judy does Judy.” New York City brings the lovely voices of regional and Off-Broadway singer/actor Natalie Michaels\, regional actor/singer Caitlin Witty (both Wilton natives)\, and veteran opera and cabaret singer Mark Cummings. Fairfield County talent includes the beautiful voices of veteran performers Nancy Limbacher Meyer\, Jerry O’Neil\, Kellen Schult\, Christina Kampler\, Al Recchia\, and local jazz and R & B singer Michael Dunham. \nThe cabaret will be livestreamed on the Wilton Playshop’s YouTube channel\, Facebook page\, and through Zoom. There will be no charge for this special event. Donations are accepted and appreciated for those able to do so.

DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Playshop is excited to present Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This new comedy by Katie Forgette has been described by the playwright as “Brighton Beach Memoirs for the Catholic crowd.” The virtual reading\, directed by Mike Boland and produced by Sarah Lee Michaels\, will be livestreamed on Sunday\, Dec. 6\, at 3 p.m. The stellar cast comprised of many professional actors includes Dandy Barrett\, Mike Boland\, Sarah Lee Michaels\, Lisa Naso\, Heidi Weeks\, and Annie Winneg. \nTold through the memory of 19-year-old Linda O’Shea\, this hilarious play brings to life the story of the O’Sheas\, a cash-challenged\, Irish-Catholic family just trying to get through 1973. Linda is attempting to re-enact for the audience the most turbulent day of her life\, her own\, very personal Saturday Night Massacre\, but her family insists on interrupting to tell their side of the story. \nIt was a time of old school living. No Facebook\, no tweets\, no texting\, no Skype. A time when public ridicule in a close-knit\, hermetically sealed Catholic parish was the ultimate nightmare. And of course\, there’s Grandma\, ruling the household from her upstairs bedroom\, banging her baseball bat on the floor to get attention\, and service\, from the rest of the family. When Linda’s parents leave it to her to tell her younger sister about the birds and the bees\, the bawdy conversation is somehow overheard by the parish priest…and Father Lovett is not amused. He sets out to confront the family about “the corruption of their eldest daughter’s soul.” \nIn an effort to deliver live theater to their audience in this trying time\, the Wilton Playshop will be offering this livestream reading at no cost. SUMMARY:Poetry in Motion Reunion
DESCRIPTION:For 11 years\, Wilton Library ran a poetry and arts-based event for teens. It enabled them to use poetry to express their views\, concerns\, hopes and dreams before a live audience during two evening performances. Many of those students are now in college\, pursuing careers or working on doctoral degrees\, but have agreed to reunite for one evening and perform their latest poems….this time about their experiences during 2020 and hopes for the future.
