DESCRIPTION:browngrotta arts presents its Spring 2022 Art in the Barn exhibition\, Crowdsourcing the Collective: survey of textile and mixed media art this May. Crowdsourcing will be documented in a full-color catalog (our 51st). Join us on Saturday\, May 7 for the Opening and Artists Reception or during the rest of the week\, May 8-15. \nThe 42 artists from 12 countries included in Crowdsourcing the Collective: a survey of textile and mixed media art illustrate the vitality of art textiles\, ceramics and mixed media. The new prominence of these art forms finds them the subject of exhibitions in major museums\, intermixed with paintings and traditional sculpture in ways unthinkable a decade ago. Many of the artists in Crowdsourcing began working in the ‘80s and ’90s\, when craft and fiber art were not well recognized; some have been working since fiber art’s first heyday in the ‘60s and ’70s. \nThe exhibition reflects an astonishing range of materials and techniques\, tapestries of silk and agave\, sculptures of seaweed\, seagrass and willow\, wall works made of sandpaper\, hemp and horsehair\, and ceramics of Shigaraki clay will all be included. The scope of these artists’ preoccupations is on view here\, too — from environmental concerns\, to questions of the cosmos and identity\, to explorations of material and process. It includes new work\, works from earlier periods\, and work from artists we have invited specifically for this exhibition. To support the new fall league\, WYFC is offering\, a FREE clinic/jamboree for Wilton girls and interested coaches on Wednesday\, June 9. \nFlag Football Intro Skills Clinic\nPlayers & Coaches\nWednesday\, June 9 at 5:30-7 p.m.\nMiddlebrook\nRegistration \nRegistration is also now open for all the summer and fall programs. Wilton Youth Football Cheer (WYFC) offers flag football for grades Pre-K-12 with both boys’ and girls’ options. The programs are coordinated by WYFC’s annually elected volunteer board of directors. \n“We’re so excited for the summer and fall seasons\,” said Tony Palumbo\, volunteer vice president and flag football commissioner for WYFC. “When you hear from parents there is nothing their kids love more than flag football\, you know it’s time to get more youth involved. With our new girls’ league\, we will continue our tradition of providing a flexible and supportive atmosphere for the parents and kids. Our flexible scheduling philosophy supports kids playing multiple sports and volunteer coaches’ schedules. We are a family program run by a great group of volunteer parents\, that make sure the kids come first in Flag Football.” \nThe flag summer programs are jointly run by WYFC volunteers and the Wilton High School football team. The week of June 14 there is a flag camp. Starting Monday\, June 21\, there is a Monday night clinic program. (Registration link) \nThe summer season kicks off on Monday\, June 14. DESCRIPTION:[Sponsored post] On Nov. 10 at 1:30 p.m.\, the Westport Library will be screening HBO’s Emmy Award-winning\, 19-minute documentary\, The Number on Great-Grandpa’s Arm. This short film follows an intimate conversation between a young boy and his beloved great-grandfather\, an Auschwitz survivor\, sharing memories and lessons of the Holocaust with a new generation. \nThe screening will be followed by an audience Q&A with Elliott Saiontz\, the film’s young narrator; his mother\, Stacey Saiontz; and acclaimed artist Jeff Scher\, a Westport resident\, whose rotoscope animation brings the film’s archival footage and photos to life. The discussion will be moderated by The Rev. John D. Betit from Christ & Holy Trinity Church. \nThe Number on Great-Grandpa’s Arm is an approachable way to teach about the Holocaust\, suitable for ages 9-years-old and up. This film can help our youngest generation understand the Holocaust while teaching the importance of standing up against bigotry and hatred\, and the transformative power of hope.
