DESCRIPTION:Passage East Kennels and Pet Pantry Warehouse are excited to host a fundraising JoyREAD to benefit the Wilton Library Association‘s “25 for 25” Town Grant Challenge! Join us at JoyRide of Wilton next Saturday\, Oct. 20\, at 11 a.m. for a 50-minute cycling class with Adam\, followed by refreshments. \nWe’ll make it worth the sweat–all riders will go home with a doggy swag bag containing $25 to use toward any boarding\, grooming\, daycare\, or training service at Passage East\, as well as a 10% off coupon towards any purchase at Pet Pantry\, located right next to the studio. \nMinimum donation is $40 per rider\, to be paid in cash or check made out to Wilton Library Association at the time of the event. Space is limited to 36 riders\, so sign up now on the JoyRide website. \nMore about the “25 for 25” Challenge:  In this year’s budgeting process\, the Library was challenged by the Town of Wilton to raise $25\,000 in additional funding which would be matched by the Town\, thereby reaching Wilton Library’s original budget request. Because of the Town’s challenging budget year\, the library has launched its ’25 for 25′ Campaign\, which is a critical piece in securing the organization’s operating funds. \nThe Library has always been there for us–now it’s our turn to show them some love!

DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Interfaith Action Committee (Wi-ACT) supports the Cystic Fibrosis Bridge of Hope by providing meals to and helping drive the patients that come here for treatment. Wi-ACT is having a fundraising ride at JoyRide for the Cystic Fibrosis Bridge of Hope on Saturday\, Dec. 1 at 11:30 a.m.. It is $40 to ride and the money we raise will truly help to save someone’s life. \nCF Bridge of Hope was started by two long-time Wilton residents\, the husband and wife team of Dr. Hossein Sadeghi and Dr. Dr. Golnar Raissi. DESCRIPTION:In the 12th year of the collaboration between Wilton Library and the Wilton Historical Society\, the scholarly lecture series theme is ‘Sex\, Scandal and Upheaval: 1919 – What’s Changed?’ Veteran sports writer Steve Wulf is at the plate with the story of the infamous cheating scandal that enveloped the 1919 World Series. \nOne hundred years ago\, the stage was set for the darkest drama in the history of baseball:  the Black Sox Scandal. Upset at the penny-pinching ways of White Sox owner Charles Comiskey\, and tempted by the riches promised to them by gamblers\, several members of the team conspired to help the Cincinnati Red Stockings win the 1919 World Series. \nWulf is a senior writer with ESPN\, where he has happily worked since 1997\, when he became one of the founding editors of ESPN The Magazine. DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Family Bicycle Rodeo will be held in the parking lot of Miller-Driscoll School on Saturday\, April 6\, from 10 a.m. to noon (Rain date:  April 7). All ages are welcome. Drop in any time between 10-11 a.m.. The course closes at noon. The guided road ride for ages 12 and up departs at 10:30 a.m.\, but please arrive at 10:00 to allow time for the safety check. \nAfter having their bikes inspected\, participants will be guided through the rodeo course\, where they will learn and practice skills such as hand signaling\, turning in a limited space\, and maneuvering through obstacles. \nRegistration is recommended\, online. DESCRIPTION:From New York Times national baseball writer Tyler Kepner comes K: A History of Baseball in Ten Pitches – a deep dive into the stories\, stats\, folklore\, and nostalgia behind America’s pastime told through vivid anecdotes and insights\, examining the fastball\, the curveball\, the changeup\, the slider\, the cutter\, the sinker\, the splitter\, the knuckleball\, the screwball\, and the spitball. \nKepner has found that pitchers almost always love to talk about their craft:  18 of the 25 pitchers with the most strikeouts in the history of the sport have shared their perspectives with him\, including Nolan Ryan\, Steve Carlton\, Bob Gibson\, Randy Johnson\, and Pedro Martinez. \nKepner\, who lives in Wilton\, started covering baseball as a teenager\, interviewing players for a homemade magazine that was featured in The New York Times in 1989. DESCRIPTION:Clean out your basement and garage! The Wilton High School boys golf team will be collecting used golf clubs and gently used golf equipment for the First Tee program. The program provides students\, who wouldn’t typically be exposed to the sport of golf\, with the chance to learn and play at courses throughout the country. \nThe collections will take place on Thursday\, June 6 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Village Market and on Saturday\, June 8 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Arena Hair Styling (next to the Village Luncheonette).
