SUMMARY:The Wilton Playshop Presents Stephen Sondheim’s “Into The Woods”
DESCRIPTION:One of Stephen Sondheim’s most popular and beloved works\, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated and emotionally resonant show that masterfully weaves together the stories of some of our most cherished fairy tale characters. With a brilliant score that showcases Sondheim’s unmatched lyrical talent\, the musical brings characters like Cinderella\, Little Red Riding Hood\, Jack (of Jack and the Beanstalk fame)\, and the Baker and his Wife together in a shared quest that is at once whimsical and profound. \nInto the Woods takes audiences on an enchanting journey through the woods\, where dreams\, desires\, and wishes intertwine\, and the consequences of those wishes become more complicated and far-reaching than anyone could have anticipated. As the story unfolds\, Sondheim’s intricate storytelling offers layers of humor\, darkness\, and deep introspection\, creating a timeless narrative that resonates with audiences across generations.

SUMMARY:Shakespeare on the Sound's Romeo and Juliet
DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Library for a special program just in time for Shakespeare on the Sound’s annual summer production of Romeo and Juliet in Rowayton’s Pinkney Park (June 12-June 30). This is their 28th year presenting Shakespeare’s plays outdoors. \nFun Facts About Romeo And Juliet:\n– Romeo and Juliet first meet on a Sunday evening. Four days later — on Wednesday evening — Romeo drinks poison and Juliet stabs herself. “Worst week ever\,” as one Shakespearean scholar puts it.\n– Juliet is 13 years old. Romeo’s age is unknown.\n– Dante first mentions the feud between the families in the early 1300’s.\n– In 1662 Mary Saunderson made stage history as the first woman to play Juliet\, 150 years after London audiences first saw Shakespeare’s play with a boy playing Juliet. \nShakespeare on the Sound Education Director and Macbeth/Christmas Carol actor Nick Urda and board member/Shakespeare teacher John Love guide audiences through Romeo and Juliet and\, in an interactive presentation\, hope to exemplify why Juliet and Romeo might be a more fitting title for the play. They’ll also incite the question: were they really in love? \nRegistration is suggested online or call 203.762.6334.

SUMMARY:Inside Emily Dickinson: Her Poetry & Her Life — A Live Theatrical Performance by Ginger Grace
DESCRIPTION:April is National Poetry Month\, 30 days of celebrating the joy\, expressiveness\, and pure delight of poetry. What better way to celebrate poetry than by honoring the legendary American poet Emily Dickinson? Join Wilton Library for this interactive production of “Inside Emily Dickinson: Her Poetry & Her Life\,” created and performed by Ginger Grace. \nDickinson takes viewers on a delirious romp through her life and times. Wit\, wonder and wisdom are the order of the day. The audience finds itself in the midst of life changing events and relationships as Dickinson defies the conventions of her time – and creates poetry for the ages. On occasion\, she steps out of the play\, calls out to the audience for words and ideas\, weaves those into the fabric of the piece – and now\, the possibilities with words are limitless! \n“Animated – informal and personal – you made me love Emily Dickinson.” \nGrace’s acting credits include the national tour of The Presidents (opposite Rich Little). Off-Broadway: The Glass Menagerie; Miss Julie; Faust; and Electra. Regional: Eleanor Roosevelt: Her Secret Journey; The First Ladies Coalition (written and performed by Grace); The Belle of Amherst; and Inside Emily Dickinson: Her Poetry & Her Life (written and performed by Grace); Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf; and Doubt. Film: Wedding March by Deborah Savadge; Chris Shomojima’s 6-Minute Mom; and The Trouble with Tuesdays by Martine Sainvil. \nGrace has worked with the CASA Program\, helping inner-city school children create their own shows\, and she thrives on bringing out the voices of children in the theater. \nRegistration is required.
