SUMMARY:Fall Birdwatching at Woodcock
DESCRIPTION:Join Woodcock Nature Center staff member and avid birder Tommy McCarthy for a guided birdwatching walk! Fall means birds are migrating back to their southern homes\, so species will be stopping here in Connecticut to refuel for the long journey ahead. On this walk we will talk about how birds prepare for migration\, learn about some of the species traveling back to the tropics\, and discuss what birds will be remaining with us or arriving for the winter. If you are new to birdwatching\, you are sure to learn about at least one species you have never heard of! Bringing binoculars is recommended. \nThis program is geared more towards adults\, although kids are still welcome.  Registration is required. Register on the Woodcock Nature Center website.

SUMMARY:Evening Owl Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Woodcock Nature Center educator Tommy McCarthy for an after-dark walk on the trails of Woodcock to learn about and listen for some of the eight owl species which can be found in our state. Late fall is a great time to look for owls\, as the young ones born during the past season disperse\, learn to live independently and establish their own territories. We will delve into the lives of these secretive and beautiful animals by learning about the sounds they make\, the habitat they prefer\, and the signs they leave behind as they hunt. \nRegister on the Woodcock Nature Center website.

SUMMARY:Winter Tracking and Tree Identification Walk with Woodcock Nature Center
DESCRIPTION:Ever seen some strange-looking tracks in the snow or mud and wondered what left them? On this casual excursion through the woods at Woodcock Nature Center\, learn to identify tracks and signs of different mammals that live around the trails! \nVery few mammals in Connecticut are true hibernators — while some slow down and take long naps\, many remain active through the winter searching for food and staying warm. SUMMARY:Spring Migration Birding at Allen's Meadow and its Community Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Come along on this free spring migration bird walk at Allen’s Meadow led by expert birder\, conservationist\, master gardener and Wilton resident Joe Bear. Bear will lead a leisurely two-hour walk through the diverse habitats this well-known birding hot spot has to offer — open fields\, woods\, woodland edges\, pond and swamp — to seek out returning summer residents\, those on their way to northern breeding grounds\, and maybe a vagrant or two. Previous spring walks have yielded a wide variety of species\, including both orchard and Baltimore orioles\, bobolink\, indigo bunting\, scarlet tanager\, eastern kingbird\, rose-breasted grosbeak\, flycatchers\, vireos and a variety of colorful warblers.  We’ll also get a chance to see up close eastern bluebirds and tree swallows vying for one of the 12 nest boxes that Bear erected in and around the Little Bluestem meadow. \nRegister online. \nPark at field sign 6 in the large gravel parking lot.
