SUMMARY:Woodcock Nature Center: Where the Wild Things Run 5K and Kids Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:Woodcock Nature Center welcomes runners\, hikers\, and walkers of all ages at its annual Where the Wild Things Run 5K and Kids Fun Run on Sunday\, Oct. 3 at 8:30 am. For several decades\, this event has highlighted Woodcock’s nearly 5 miles of publicly accessible trails and raised money for the center’s educational programs. \nThe popular 5K\, which kicks off at 9 am is 90% trail with a mix of groomed trails\, rugged trails\, and narrow bridges/boardwalks. Walkers are also welcome. The terrain of the 5k will highlight the diversity and beauty of the Woodcock property. \nA shorter 1K Kids Fun Run geared towards ages 6 and up kicks off at 8:30 am and is guided by a Woodcock team member. Parents are also welcome to accompany their children. \nAfter the Kids Fun Run\, families are invited to stick around for some unique post-race festivities on the nature center grounds including snacks\, music\, games\, playground fun\, nature crafts\, and the annual live turtle race at 9:15 am.  \nWoodcock welcomes interested businesses to inquire about sponsorship opportunities which can include inclusion on the race t-shirt\, cross-promotions\, and a table at the race finish. Special thanks to current sponsors Fairfield County Bank\, Outdoor Sports Center\, and Ridgefield Running Company. \nOrganizers are expecting 150 participants\, so runners are encouraged to register in advance online. Race fees are $35 for the 5K and $20 for the Kids Fun Run. Race t-shirts will only be guaranteed to participants registered by Wednesday\, Sept. 15. Prizes will be awarded to top adult finishers.

Together\, they have created a unique opportunity for participants to learn about Wilton’s environment while walking through it with staff naturalists. As partners\, they are providing opportunities for families to get out and explore the outdoors. Together\, they created a unique opportunity for participants to learn about Wilton’s environment while walking through it with staff naturalists. \nThis hike starts and ends at the Woodcock Nature Center’s Orange Trail on Gilly Lane. Participants will traverse across spectacle land and into WLCT’s Spectacle Land Trail. The group will explore a combination of forests\, meadows\, rivers\, and wetlands. Staff naturalists will point out wildlife flora\, fauna\, geological features\, and of course\, birds! Questions along the way are welcomed and encouraged. No dogs please. \nParking: Woodcock Nature Center\, Gilly Lane entrance. For GPS coordinates\, enter Gilly Lane\, Wilton CT. SUMMARY:Wilton Education Foundation’s ‘Get Smart for Wilton 5K’
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Education Foundation holds its 12th Annual Get Smart for Wilton 5K on Sunday\, May 29\, at 8:30 a.m. This family-friendly\, charity event is a chip-timed race on a USATF certified course and attracts over 300 runners each year of all levels\, from elite racers to beginners\, local runners\, teachers\, seniors\, moms\, dads and kids\, all raising visibility and funds to support the Wilton Public Schools. \nThe fundraiser’s 5K route starts and ends at the Wilton High School track\, and features Cider Mill and Wilton High School prominently along the course. Cash prizes are given to the top three male and female runners\, and awards go to the top three boys and girls under 13. All race finishers under the age of 13 receive a medal. \nPre-registered participants receive a T-shirt. Runners of all ability levels are welcome and proceeds from the race will support enrichment opportunities for Wilton Public School students. \nFor anyone not in town or still not comfortable running together in crowds\, registration for a virtual event is also an option and can be run anywhere and anytime from May 23-29. \nTo donate directly\, visit the Wilton Education Foundation website. \nRegistration is online; pre-registered participants receive a free t-shirt. T-shirt pickup will be held at Comstock on Friday\, May 27 from 4-6 p.m.

Joe has been birding for over 30 years\, having led both domestic and international trips for the CT Audubon Society and other nature-based organizations. \nBear will lead this leisurely two-hour walk through the diverse habitats this birding hot spot\, Allen’s Meadow\, has to offer – open fields\, woodlands\, edges\, pond and swamp – to seek out returning summer residents\, those on their way to northern nesting grounds\, and maybe a vagrant or two. Previous spring walks have yielded a wide variety of species including Orchard Orioles\, Bobolinks\, Indigo Buntings\, Baltimore Orioles\, Scarlet Tanagers\, Eastern Kingbirds\, Warblers (including Yellow\, Wilson’s\, Blue-winged\, Northern Parula\, Black and White\, American Redstart\, Blackpoll\, etc)\, and Vireos\, as well as Bluebirds and Tree Swallows tending nest boxes erected by Bear. \nWalks will take place rain or shine. Bring your binoculars! \nMeet on the west side of the playing fields at Allen’s Meadow. DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 4 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. come see first-hand how the Norwalk River is being reborn thanks to the dam removal currently taking place and habitat restoration efforts spanning back more than three decades. Join Trout Unlimited and Save the Sound for a walking tour of the river at Merwin Meadows Park. This event is free\, open to the public and all are welcome\, including families and children. \nThe casual walk along the river trail will highlight past stream restoration sites\, ongoing native tree planting projects and – most exciting – an overview of the dam removal currently taking place to the river to sea-run fish and other aquatic species. If luck and weather holds\, attendees may also spot native sea lamprey that have been spawning in the river for the first time in 125 years after the successful removal of the Flock Dam downstream in Norwalk in 2018. \nThe talk and tour will also celebrate the success of the partnership with the town of Wilton\, Wilton Land Conservation Trust\, Wilton Go Green\, Norwalk River Watershed Association\, Southwest Conservation District\, Norwalk River Valley Trail and many more local and community partners who have made this decades-long work possible. \nRegister on the Mianus Chapter Trout Unlimited website. \nFounded in 1973\, the Mianus Chapter of Trout Unlimited is a grassroots conservation nonprofit organization with more than 5\,000 members and supporters in the towns of Greenwich\, Stamford\, Darien\, New Canaan\, Norwalk\, Wilton and Ridgefield. DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Weir Farm will host an afternoon in celebration of Weir Farm’s four historic gardens as part of Connecticut’s Historic Gardens on Sunday\, June 25 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Park’s dedicated Garden Crew Volunteers will offer short informal talks in the gardens and answer questions. \nVisitors of all ages can borrow the park’s watercolor supplies and spend the afternoon painting en plein air in a landscape that has inspired artists for over 140 years. Or you can plant some seeds to take home\, learn about pollinators and poison ivy\, and participate in fun family activities at the tent near the visitor center! \nThere is no registration required for this event – just stop by and smell the flowers! DESCRIPTION:**This event has been POSTPONED** \nWilton Pride\, in partnership with the Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT)\, is pleased to announce the first Push N’ Pull Parade happening Sunday\, June 25\,  from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the NRVT in Wilton. The event will feature music\, festivities\, flare\, ‘Best’ contests\, and much more. The Parade is part of Be You\, a series of events organized by Wilton Pride in collaboration with town organizations and businesses to celebrate Pride Month in June. \nStart out at the trailhead on Rt. 7 at Wolfpit Road\, best accessed from across from the commuter parking lot in Wilton. Once there\, participants will check-in with registration\, be motivated to get into the parade spirit (including a selfie booth full with props and swag)\, and encouraged to enter the ‘Best’ contests (details below). \nThen paraders will take their Pride to the Trail! \nWalk\, dance\, run\, bike\, stroll\, roll\, and enjoy the beautiful NRVT. The parade route leads to the parking lot at Sharp Hill Road & Autumn Ridge Drive for the next bit of fun. \nOnce there\, participants can enjoy some treats\, listen to music\, and hang out. There will be an opportunity to meet new people\, learn about Proud Academy\, Pollinator Pathways\, and different ways to support the NRVT and Wilton Pride. Also\, all the ‘Best’ contest winners will be announced here! \nPride Best Dressed Contest: Make sure to Dress To Impress! Prizes awarded in the following categories: \n● Best Embodiment of PRIDE \n● Best Use of Color \n● Best Creative Use of Flare \nThere will be one winner in each category.
