The show brings together more than 40 leading fiber and sculptural artists\, tracing lines of influence that cross borders\, generations\, and continents. \nAbout the Exhibition \nThe exhibition takes its name from the geological process by which continents slowly separate\, collide\, and reshape one another over time — a metaphor the gallery uses to examine how artistic traditions move across the Americas in much the same way. Art\, like land\, does not stay fixed in place; it drifts\, merges\, and reforms wherever it travels. \nContinental Drift approaches this idea from two directions. DESCRIPTION:Join the Wilton community at the Riverbrook Regional YMCA on Thursday\, Oct. 22\, at 9:15 a.m. for a discussion on mental health and substance abuse. Youth and adults in the Wilton community and across the country are facing various mental health challenges. This event aims to foster connection and conversation\, reassuring attendees that they are not alone.  \nNavigating these topics and the healthcare system can be difficult and isolating. We are coming together to engage in meaningful dialogue and explore the resources available in our community. The event will cover various aspects of mental health\, offer guidance on recognizing signs of concern in both youth and adults\, and discuss challenges and resources for navigating the ever-changing mental health system. \nThe panel will be moderated by Christine Cha\, PhD\, a psychologist and youth mental health researcher at the Yale Child Study Center and the Yale Center for Brain and Mind Health.  She will also be fielding questions from the audience.   \nPanelists will include: \n\nWilton Deputy Police Chief Robert Cipolla\nParent coach\, NAMI facilitator and Block Party USA founder Vanessa Elias \nYale Child Study Center Asst. DESCRIPTION:Join expert birder\, conservationist\, master gardener and Wilton resident Joe Bear for this free series of three fall migration bird walks at Allen’s Meadow. Millions of birds journey south to their wintering grounds this time of year\, some staying in Connecticut\, some traveling as far away as the pampas grasslands of South America.  Bear will lead walkers on a leisurely two-hour walk through the diverse habitats this well-known CT birding hot spot has to offer — open fields and meadow\, woodland edges\, the community gardens (which are often teaming with migrants)\, and the new native pollinator meadow. Fall sightings in recent years have included bobolinks\, dickcissels\, indigo buntings\, a variety of warblers\, orioles\, flycatchers and sparrows\, as well as several species of soaring raptors including bald eagles. \nRegister online. \n\nThe walk is drizzle or shine. SUMMARY:The Enduring Legend of The Leatherman
DESCRIPTION:Of all the legendary figures who have come through Connecticut\, few have had the staying power or notoriety that The Leatherman has achieved. \nFor six years during the late 1800s\,this so-called “vagabond” hiked the same\, 364-mile\, circuitous route every 34 days like clockwork. Residents could predict when he would return to their town. Wearing a self-made suit of leather\, from head to toe\, he conversed with no one and slept in caves. We still don’t know who he was\, but people loved him. \nHear about The Leatherman from noted Connecticut podcaster and storyteller Mike Allen on Thursday evening\, Oct. 15\, at the Wilton Historical Society. Allen specializes in bringing history to life\, through his background in journalism\, radio broadcasting\, podcasting and public speaking. He hosted the podcast\, “Amazing Tales About History\,” for four years\, producing more than 200 episodes on Connecticut history. For 10 years\, Allen was news director at Connecticut radio station I-95 before becoming press secretary to the mayor of Danbury. During a subsequent\, 25-year corporate career\, he worked and lived internationally\, specializing in marketing. Allen has lived in Connecticut for more than 50 years and currently resides in Danbury. \nThe talk will be held on Thursday\, Oct. 15\, at 7 p.m. at the Wilton Historical Society (224 Danbury Rd.). The event is free for Historical Society members\, and $10 for non-members.
