Additionally\, the commission oversees long-range planning initiatives\, including the preparation of the Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development. \nPlanning and Zoning Commission Regular Meetings typically occur on the second and fourth Mondays of the month\, from 7-9 p.m. \nMeetings can be attended by the public via the Zoom link. \nMembers of the public can submit written comments and questions via email to Land Use Director/Town Planner Michael Wrinn by 12 p.m. on the day of the meeting\, or members of the public can comment on Zoom at the appropriate time by raising a hand to notify the host of the intent to provide comments. Public participants will be promoted one at a time to provide comments live on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Free Youth Gardening Program at Trackside Teen Center
DESCRIPTION:Calling all teens with green thumbs!! The free Green Teens youth gardening program’s summer session begins Monday\, June 24\, from 9-11 a.m. at Trackside Teen Center. All rising middle and high school students are welcome. No gardening experience is necessary\, just an interest in nature and in helping others\, as the program is rooted (no pun intended!) in community service. The program will be held at Trackside every Monday in the summer through Aug. 19. Sign-ups are welcome at any time\, and registration is ongoing. \nAn initiative of Wilton Garden Club (WGC) and Trackside Teen Center\, Green Teens is led by experienced WGC gardeners. Its participants engage in hands-on activities like designing garden beds\, planting\, maintaining and harvesting\, as well as learning how to cook with the produce grown in their gardens. They also hear from occasional guest speakers and make creative garden art projects. From last year’s growing season\, Green Teens donated 232 pounds of fresh\, organic produce to the Wilton Food Pantry and 100 floral arrangements to the Wilton Senior Center and Wilton Commons\, all from the gardens they tended. \n“Our hope with Green Teens is to get more young people involved with creating and maintaining vegetable gardens\, to teach them about the importance of healthy foods\, and to give back to the community\,” WGC’s youth gardening committee co-chair Laurie Musilli said. “There’s something in this program for everyone.” \nTo register\, visit the Trackside Teen Center website or contact Musilli via email.

The farm stand’s offerings may change week to week\, but the outstanding quality of the produce does not and the harvest only grows more bountiful throughout the growing season! \nAfter you fill your market bag we hope you have time to stroll the farm and meet our newest residents — Nigerian dwarf goats Caramel and S’more\, and Annabelle\, a Flemish giant rabbit\, and her young\, fast-growing bunnies. \nAmbler Farm is owned by the Town of Wilton\, but managed and operated by Friends of Ambler Farm\, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

DESCRIPTION:Join expert birder\, conservationist\, master gardener\, and Wilton resident Joe Bear for this free series of fall migration bird walks in search of birds making a migration stopover at Allen’s Meadow on their way south to their wintering grounds\, some as far as the pampas grasslands of South America. Joe will lead us on a leisurely two-hour walk through the diverse habitats this well-known birding hot spot has to offer — open fields/meadows\, woodland edges\, wetlands\, and of course the community gardens which are often teaming with migrants. Fall sightings in recent years have included Bobolinks\, Dickcissels\, Indigo Buntings\, a variety of warblers\, flycatchers\, and sparrows\, as well as several species of soaring raptors including the Bald Eagle.\n\nPlease register online.\n\nThe event is drizzle or shine. SUMMARY:Free Youth Gardening Program at Trackside Teen Center
DESCRIPTION:Calling all teens with green thumbs!! The free Green Teens youth gardening program’s summer session begins Monday\, June 24\, from 9-11 a.m. at Trackside Teen Center. All rising middle and high school students are welcome. No gardening experience is necessary\, just an interest in nature and in helping others\, as the program is rooted (no pun intended!) in community service. The program will be held at Trackside every Monday in the summer through Aug. 19. Sign-ups are welcome at any time\, and registration is ongoing. \nAn initiative of Wilton Garden Club (WGC) and Trackside Teen Center\, Green Teens is led by experienced WGC gardeners. Its participants engage in hands-on activities like designing garden beds\, planting\, maintaining and harvesting\, as well as learning how to cook with the produce grown in their gardens. They also hear from occasional guest speakers and make creative garden art projects. From last year’s growing season\, Green Teens donated 232 pounds of fresh\, organic produce to the Wilton Food Pantry and 100 floral arrangements to the Wilton Senior Center and Wilton Commons\, all from the gardens they tended. \n“Our hope with Green Teens is to get more young people involved with creating and maintaining vegetable gardens\, to teach them about the importance of healthy foods\, and to give back to the community\,” WGC’s youth gardening committee co-chair Laurie Musilli said. “There’s something in this program for everyone.” \nTo register\, visit the Trackside Teen Center website or contact Musilli via email.

SUMMARY:Rise Against Hunger Meals-packaging Event
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers Needed to ‘Rise Against Hunger’ for Wilton’s Largest Community Meal Packaging Event \nSince 2011 friends\, neighbors and family across the Wilton area have been gathering on the third Saturday of October to package meals for Rise Against Hunger. It’s the largest single-day Rise Against Hunger volunteer event in New England. Last year more than 600 volunteers packaged 137\,000 meals. To date\, over 1.5 million meals have been sent to otherwise starving children around the world. \nThis year’s event — as always\, sponsored by the Wilton Interfaith Action Committee (WI-ACT) — is on Saturday\, Oct. 19. Organizers once again have set a food packaging goal of 135\,000 individual\, highly nutritious meals packaged in one day — enough to feed 400 malnourished children for an entire year wherever the need is greatest. \nWords can hardly do justice to this joyous volunteer experience\, but so many past participants say taking part is one of the most uplifting and meaningful things they’ve ever done. More than 100 people in a room work together while doing something that will literally save lives — creating life-sustaining meal packages — is soul-sustaining for everyone who volunteers. Community members of all ages work side-by-side to do incredible good. \nThis event depends on two essential factors: the purchase of bulk ingredients for the meals and volunteers to package them. Many generous donations have been made by congregations\, businesses\, and individuals to purchase the ingredients. As in the past\, along with Wilton faith institutions\, ASML and the Wilton Kiwanis Club are leading the way for the corporate and nonprofit levels. As an added treat\, RISE Doughnuts will once again provide doughnuts for volunteers after their shifts. \nTo succeed Wi-Act needs community members’ support. Donations can still be sent to Wi-Act Treasurer\, 36 New Canaan Rd.\, Wilton\, CT 06897. But the primary focus now is seeking volunteers. \n“From 7 years old on up\, all are welcome to join us for this wonderful experience\, either alone or with your whole family\, including grandparents\,” Wi-Act Chair Steve Hudspeth said. \nThe event is held at WEPCO (36 New Canaan Rd\,) and volunteers can sign up online for two-hour shifts\, starting at 9-11 a.m.\, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.\, 1-3 p.m.\, and 3-5 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:A variety of organic produce\, Ambler Farm’s own maple syrup and more make Ambler Farm’s farm stand a must-not-miss on Saturdays\, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.\, June through October. The farm produces dozens of varieties of vegetables\, fruits\, flowers and herbs\, yielding as much as 15\,000 pounds of produce annually. The farm stand’s offerings may change week to week\, but the outstanding quality of the produce does not and the harvest only grows more bountiful throughout the growing season! \nAfter you fill your market bag we hope you have time to stroll the farm and meet our newest residents — Nigerian dwarf goats Caramel and S’more\, and Annabelle\, a Flemish giant rabbit\, and her young\, fast-growing bunnies. \nAmbler Farm is owned by the Town of Wilton\, but managed and operated by Friends of Ambler Farm\, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

DESCRIPTION:Late Night at Trackside for the month of October is Friday\, Oct. 4 and Friday\, Oct. 18\, 8-10:30 p.m. The space transforms into a salon-like setting and is an opportunity for high school students to hang out and socialize. \nEnjoy free food and drink; hear live music; wax philosophical with your peers; play chess\, pool\, shuffleboard\, ping pong or Playstation; engage in intellectually stimulating and supportive conversations; and read poetry or sing karaoke on the open mic. \nAnyone who has a band and is interested in playing at Trackside reach out via email.
