DESCRIPTION:Woodcock Nature Center is proud to announce its role as a participating chapter of FrogWatch USA\, the national citizen science initiative that empowers community members to help monitor and protect local frog and toad populations. \nFrogWatch USA\, a longstanding program managed by the Akron Zoo and part of a nationwide network of chapters\, invites individuals\, families\, and nature lovers to explore wetlands in their communities\, learn to identify amphibian calls\, and contribute valuable data to a scientific database used by researchers studying wetland health and amphibian populations. \nAspiring citizen scientists can register for upcoming FrogWatch USA volunteer training sessions tailored to all experience levels. These trainings will equip participants with the skills to identify frogs and toads by their unique calls\, select monitoring sites\, and record observations. \nCurrent sessions include: \n\nSaturday\, Feb. 28 – 1-2:30 p.m. at Woodcock Nature Center\nTuesday\, Mar. 3 – 6:30-8 p.m. Online via Zoom\n\nParticipation in FrogWatch USA does not require prior scientific experience just a curiosity and dedication to learning about local amphibians. \nFrogs and toads play essential roles in forest and wetland ecosystems as both predators and prey\, and serve as key indicators of environmental health. However\, many species have experienced significant declines in recent years due to habitat loss and environmental stressors. Whether it’s a classic coda after a nice\, long lunch or a perfect prelude to a romantic dinner\, Tierney’s engaging stage presence and fabulous vocals over Tamir’s dynamic and inventive piano will enchant as well as entertain us. Their special repertoire for this concert will guarantee a memorable afternoon of jazz. \nFrom a concert review: “Watching Hendelman’s marvelous hands fly across the keyboard\, one is reminded of the likes of Oscar Peterson\, Chick Corea\, and Keith Jarrett.” And The New York Times called Tierney Sutton “a serious jazz artist who takes the enterprise to a whole other level.” \nNine-time Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton has received a “Best Jazz Vocal Album” Grammy nod for every project she has released in the last decade. Known for her impeccable voice and imaginative treatments of The Great American Songbook\, Sutton is heralded for her abilities as both a jazz storyteller and her ability to use her voice as an instrument. In May 2016 Tierney was approached by legendary Director Clint Eastwood to work on his box-office smash-hit Sully. The score was created by Tierney Sutton Band pianist\, Christian Jacob\, The Tierney Sutton Band\, and Clint Eastwood. The end-title song “Flying Home” features music by Eastwood and lyrics by Tierney Sutton and JB Eckl and was performed by Tierney Sutton and The Tierney Sutton Band. \nBorn in Tel Aviv\, pianist\, composer and arranger Tamir Hendelman has resided in Southern California for many years\, but it’s fair to say the world is his home. A long-time member of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra\, he has recorded with Barbra Streisand and Natalie Cole\, performed with Benny Golson and Terell Stafford and has been a guest artist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Winston-Salem Symphony. DESCRIPTION:Be a part of New England’s rich textiles history and learn how to weave on a small loom at the Wilton Historical Society. Participants will be weaving their very own unique and beautiful scarf or table runner. Instructor Ellen Goldman is an experienced weaver\, textile enthusiast\, and active member of the Handweavers’ Guild of Connecticut. \nThis four-part series will take place on Thursday evenings: February 12th\, February 19th\, March 5th\, and March 12th\, from 7:00-9:00 p.m.\, at the Wilton Historical Society. \nWilton Historical Society Members $60; Non-members $80.
