DESCRIPTION:The NY Metro Chapter artists of Silk Painters International (SPIN) display their fascinating works in Wilton Library’s September art exhibition. Joining Wilton artist Ronda Lanzi (Wilton\, CT) in this exhibition are Gloria Lanza-Bajo (Brooklyn\, NY)\, Lydia Bang (Palisades Park\, NJ)\, PJ Cobbs (New York\, NY)\, Jim Cusmano and Chris Cusmano (Long Valley\, NJ)\, Calice Fyffe (Catskill\, NY)\, Susan Grant (Califon\, NJ)\, Linda Parker (Orange\, NJ)\, Suzanne Punch (New York\, NY)\, Sissi Siska (Hoboken\, NJ)\, and Johanna Tiemann (New York\, NY). \nTheir works represent a wide variety of styles\, media and subject matter choices all created on silk. The opening reception is free and open to the public. The exhibition runs from Sept. 6 through Oct. 3. A majority of the works will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library.

For several decades\, this event has highlighted Woodcock’s nearly five miles of publicly accessible trails and raised money for the center’s educational programs. \nThe popular 5K\, which kicks-off at 9 a.m.\, is 90% trail with a mix of groomed trails\, rugged trails and narrow bridges/boardwalks. The terrain of the 5K will highlight the diversity and beauty of the Woodcock property. \nA shorter 1K Kids Fun Run geared towards ages 6-and-up kicks-off at 8:30 a.m.. This course is appropriate for walkers and runners of all ages. Parents are welcome to accompany their children. \nAfter the Kids Fun Run families are invited to stick around for some unique post-race festivities on the nature center grounds\, including food\, music\, games\, nature crafts\, animal encounters\, and more. The nature center building\, which is home to more than 20 reptiles and amphibians\, will be open for visiting as will the natural playground and fitness trail. \nWoodcock welcomes interested businesses to inquire about sponsorship opportunities which can include inclusion on the race t-shirt\, cross-promotions and a table at the race finish. Special thanks to current sponsors\, many of whom will be in attendance:  Fairfield County Bank\, Outdoor Sports Center\, Ridgefield Pediatrics and Merrell. \nOrganizers are expecting over 150 participants\, so runners are encouraged to register in advance on the Woodcock website. DESCRIPTION:First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice will read a Proclamation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Tuesday\, Oct. 8\, at 9 a.m. at Wilton High School. \nMembers of the Wilton Domestic Violence Task Force\, Wilton Police\, Teen PeaceWorks and other officials will be there. The event has usually been held at Town Hall\, but this year has been moved to a new location at Wilton High School in front of the flagpole (corner of Catalpa Rd. and Kristine Lily Way) in order to include some of the student population. \nTraditionally the members of the Teen PeaceWorks group have tied purple ribbons around trees in Wilton Center–the same number as the number of domestic violence calls received by the Wilton Police for that year. Instead\, the task force will use purple pinwheels to represent the number of calls this year.

DESCRIPTION:Meeting in Room 18 of the Comstock Community Center on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:15 p.m.\, the Economic Development Commission (EDC) works to improve Wilton’s reputation as a place where the enhanced quality of life for workers and residents attracts new businesses\, relocation of current businesses\, and success for existing businesses. The commission has worked since 2012 on assisting current business owners in maintaining and expanding their business\, to increase available commercial space in the town\, and to expand the commercial sector through fostering a friendly attitude towards business in Wilton.
