SUMMARY:“What Does Community Mean?” Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:What makes a “welcoming” community and what does it mean to be a part of one? The Wilton Historical Society recently announced the opening of its latest exhibition Puzzle Pieces: Putting Wilton Together. This exhibition\, funded by a generous grant from the Wilton Kiwanis Club\, strives to help visitors create a sense of belonging in the town. This exhibition uses interactive elements\, oral histories and rarely seen items from the Wilton Historical Society’s museum collection to tell the stories of all those who have put Wilton together and help visitors understand their place in the community in the present and future. \nTo kick off the opening of the exhibit\, the Society is partnering with Wilton Youth Council and its #WiltonIsWhereYouBelong campaign for a panel discussion about the importance of community\, creating a sense of belonging\, and stories about when residents felt welcome in town. Wilton Historical Society Director Nick Foster will be joined by Chandra Ring of Wilton Youth Council and Mary Anne Mendola Franco from Wilton Kiwanis for a discussion about Wilton history\, what Wilton means to them\, and how important it is to have a community that you belong to. \nDiscussion will be held at the Wilton Historical Society at 6 p.m. on Thursday\, Mar. 6. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists and tour the new exhibition. Light refreshments will be served. \nThis is a free program. Registration is not required but is requested and can be done via the Wilton Historical website.

DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Teen Library Council (TLC) is a monthly group for youth in grades 6-12 who are interested in becoming more involved with the library. All Wilton teens are welcome. Benefits include: helping librarians choose teen materials\, brainstorming ideas for teen programs\, gaining experience working in a leadership role\, and helping the community through service projects. \nEach meeting will consist of a small group activity and discussion of upcoming events. The group will meet the second Tuesday of each month and participants are encouraged to attend all meetings. Tickets for the “Decades” Spring Gala Fundraiser are on sale now. \nThe evening will honor the past decades\, bring us together for a festive party\, and raise funds to help ensure a strong future. \nThe celebration features passed hors d’oeuvres\, an open bar\, an elegant sit-down dinner\, a live DJ and dancing\, a silent auction\, a wine pull\, a paddle raise\, and more. Nostalgia will fill the air as partygoers travel through time: they’ll start with the Roaring ’20s\, cruise through the ’50s and ’60s\, do the ‘70s hustle\, flash back to the ’80s\, and party like it’s 1999. Dancing to music will transport guests to another time and the festive atmosphere will feature iconic items that defined earlier days. \nDecades will be held on Friday\, April 4\, from 6:30-10:30 p.m. at Wilton Library. Tickets are on sale now at $225 per person and must be purchased in advance. Tickets include dinner\, dancing and open bar. DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Teen Library Council (TLC) is a monthly group for youth in grades 6-12 who are interested in becoming more involved with the library. All Wilton teens are welcome. Benefits include: helping librarians choose teen materials\, brainstorming ideas for teen programs\, gaining experience working in a leadership role\, and helping the community through service projects. \nEach meeting will consist of a small group activity and discussion of upcoming events. The group will meet the second Tuesday of each month and participants are encouraged to attend all meetings. Enjoy special package pricing and professional touch up with your photo gallery. Sign up online. \nPhotos will be ready in time for Mother’s Day and suggested now is a perfect time to get ahead of the busy summer and pricier fall season for holiday pictures. Each mini session will take 20-25 minutes and includes a digital gallery of about 15-20 images with professional retouching service. The special rate for the fundraiser is $450 (plus CT sales tax) with 25% of proceeds benefitting WEF\, which will support various grants in Wilton Public Schools. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday\, April 13.

DESCRIPTION:The Planning and Zoning Commission is a nine-member elected body responsible for overseeing land use and development activity within Wilton. Key responsibilities of the commission are reviewing zoning regulation amendment applications\, changes to the Town’s zoning map\, and applications involving the subdivision of land\, and evaluating mandatory referrals from the Board of Selectmen. Additionally\, the commission oversees long-range planning initiatives\, including the preparation of the Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development. \nPlanning and Zoning Commission Regular Meetings typically occur on the second and fourth Mondays of the month\, from 7-9 p.m. \nMeetings can be attended by the public via the Zoom link. \nMembers of the public can submit written comments and questions via email to Land Use Director/Town Planner Michael Wrinn by 12 p.m. on the day of the meeting\, or members of the public can comment on Zoom at the appropriate time by raising a hand to notify the host of the intent to provide comments. DESCRIPTION:Modern fashion influencers invite viewers to “get ready with me” — an opportunity for an inside look at their wardrobe choices and styling for days at the office\, Sunday brunch\, dinner dates and more. While no social media existed in the late 19th century\, people considered a balance of form\, function and social expectations when putting together an outfit. \nOn Saturday\, Apr. 19\, at 2 p.m.\, join the Wilton Historical Society for a lecture from historical costume designer and fashion historian Jessica Bolduc as they discuss what it took for someone in the Victorian era to get dressed and ready for the day. The lecture will cover the evolving nature of fashion throughout the second half of the 1800s using examples from the Wilton Historical Society’s museum collection as well as recreations from Bolduc. \nFunding for this program is provided by the Elizabeth Raymond Ambler Trust. \nThe lecture will be held at the Wilton Historical Society. Registration is required\, and the cost to attend is $10 per person for non-members and free for Wilton Historical Society Members.
