SUMMARY:"Evita" at The Wilton Playshop
DESCRIPTION:Evita\, one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time\, will be staged at the Wilton Playshop from April 22-May 7\, 2022. With direction and musical staging by Karen Morello\, the show will feature the musical direction of Zachary Kampler and the choreography of Kelly Nayden. \nSet in Argentina between 1934-1952\, Evita charts the young and ambitious Eva Peron’s meteoric rise to sainthood. The Tony Award-winning musical follows Eva Duarte on her journey from poor\, illegitimate child to ambitious actress and ultimately the most powerful woman in Latin America before her death at age 33. SUMMARY:[Wilton Reads] Wilton History Film Screening — Recollections & Remembrances: Stories of Wilton's Yesterdays (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library for a trip down memory lane as we screen the 2002 documentary film about Wilton’s history\, produced on the 200th anniversary of the town’s separation from Norwalk in 1802\, when Wilton was a farm town with one-room schools\, unpaved roads and swimming in the river. \nOral historians interviewed long-time residents\, some with family histories going back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Filmmakers then combined their footage with historical photographs to create this wonderful film. Narrated by David and Maureen Canary with music by Chris and Dave Brubeck\, the film follows Wilton’s path from its early roots through two world wars\, the Depression\, a major hurricane and a flood and into the post-WWII period of growth. We’ll see how Wiltonians worked\, played\, and thrived in a rural farming town that became a major suburban community. \nRegistration is required. To register\, visit the Wilton Library website.

SUMMARY:Library/Historical Society Scholarly Series — Tycoons: Bane or Benefactors? with Dr. Matthew Warshauer
DESCRIPTION:In the 15th year of collaboration between Wilton Library and the Wilton Historical Society\, this five-part scholarly lecture series held virtually will focus on the theme of “Tycoons: Bane or Benefactors?” \nDuring this program\, the final “capstone” lecture of the series\, Dr. Matthew Warshauer\, professor of history at Central Connecticut State University\, will pull together some of the important questions raised by the series’ speakers. All center around the role of “tycoons” in American society\, whether their visions for business correspond with benefits to workers and the people. In essence\, do the nation’s leading capitalists “owe” anything to society? \nThe moderator is Max Gabrielson. This program is sponsored by Nancy and Bill Brautigam and hosted virtually by Wilton Library. There is no charge to attend; donations are welcome. Registration is required for each individual lecture in order to receive the Zoom invitation link. Please visit the Wilton Library website for additional dates\, topic and speaker details\, and registration.

SUMMARY:browngrotta arts Spring 2022 Art in the Barn Exhibition: “Crowdsourcing the Collective” — Reserve your visit for May 7th Opening Reception [SPONSORED]
DESCRIPTION:browngrotta arts presents its Spring 2022 Art in the Barn exhibition\, Crowdsourcing the Collective: survey of textile and mixed media art this May. Crowdsourcing will be documented in a full-color catalog (our 51st). Join us on Saturday\, May 7 for the Opening and Artists Reception or during the rest of the week\, May 8-15. \nThe 42 artists from 12 countries included in Crowdsourcing the Collective: a survey of textile and mixed media art illustrate the vitality of art textiles\, ceramics and mixed media. The new prominence of these art forms finds them the subject of exhibitions in major museums\, intermixed with paintings and traditional sculpture in ways unthinkable a decade ago. Many of the artists in Crowdsourcing began working in the ‘80s and ’90s\, when craft and fiber art were not well recognized; some have been working since fiber art’s first heyday in the ‘60s and ’70s. \nThe exhibition reflects an astonishing range of materials and techniques\, tapestries of silk and agave\, sculptures of seaweed\, seagrass and willow\, wall works made of sandpaper\, hemp and horsehair\, and ceramics of Shigaraki clay will all be included. The scope of these artists’ preoccupations is on view here\, too — from environmental concerns\, to questions of the cosmos and identity\, to explorations of material and process. It includes new work\, works from earlier periods\, and work from artists we have invited specifically for this exhibition. In all\, 42 artists from 12 different countries are represented. \nDetails\n\nSaturday\, May 7: 11 a.m . to 6 p.m. [Opening & Artist Reception]\nSunday\, May 8: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.\nMonday\, May 9 – Saturday\, May 14: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.\nSunday\, May 15: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. [Final Day]\n\nLocation: 276 Ridgefield Rd.\, Wilton \nThere is no cost to attend and visit the exhibition. \n

Told through a compelling score that fuses haunting chorales with exuberant Latin\, pop and jazz influences\, Evita creates an arresting theatrical portrait as complex as the woman herself. Well-known numbers from Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical masterpiece include “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina\,” “Oh What a Circus\,” “Buenos Aires” and “Another Suitcase in Another Hall.”
