SUMMARY:Victorian "Get Ready With Me": A 19th Century Fashion Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Modern fashion influencers invite viewers to “get ready with me” — an opportunity for an inside look at their wardrobe choices and styling for days at the office\, Sunday brunch\, dinner dates and more. While no social media existed in the late 19th century\, people considered a balance of form\, function and social expectations when putting together an outfit. \nOn Saturday\, Apr. 19\, at 2 p.m.\, join the Wilton Historical Society for a lecture from historical costume designer and fashion historian Jessica Bolduc as they discuss what it took for someone in the Victorian era to get dressed and ready for the day. The lecture will cover the evolving nature of fashion throughout the second half of the 1800s using examples from the Wilton Historical Society’s museum collection as well as recreations from Bolduc. \nFunding for this program is provided by the Elizabeth Raymond Ambler Trust. \nThe lecture will be held at the Wilton Historical Society. Registration is required\, and the cost to attend is $10 per person for non-members and free for Wilton Historical Society Members.

SUMMARY:How Revolutionary: Fairfield County and the War for Independence Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Creating the United States of America was a radical act. The American Revolution\, from 1776 to today\, serves as a symbol of bold political action and the creation of a government based on new\, enlightened ideas. But was it truly revolutionary? The new country that emerged after the War for Independence did separate itself from a European monarchy\, but society in many ways looked much the same before\, during\, and after the United States was established. \nIn this lecture\, Wilton Historical Society Director Nick Foster uses archival evidence related to Fairfield County’s role in the Revolution to explore how radical America’s fight for independence truly was. Wilton\, like many surrounding communities\, experienced conflict between Patriots and Loyalists\, the harsh realities of war\, and difficult decisions about self-governance. The responses to these challenges present a more nuanced idea of “revolution”. \nThe lecture will be held at the Wilton Historical Society from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday\, Apr. 24. \nRegistration online is required. Admission is $10 per person for non-members\, free for Wilton Historical Society members. \n

SUMMARY:Author Talk with Wilton First Selectman Toni Boucher: The Husky Effect
DESCRIPTION:Join Wilton Library on Friday evening\, Apr. 25\, for a special author talk program with Wilton’s First Selectman Toni Boucher as we celebrate the publication of her first book\, The Husky Effect: How UConn is Creating the Entrepreneurs of the Future\, a deeply personal story of entrepreneurship and ingenuity as well as a thoughtful exploration of the spirit of innovation that’s flourishing in the University of Connecticut School of Business\, inspired by the national champion UConn Huskies men’s and women’s basketball teams. \nIn The Husky Effect\, Boucher — a selectman\, former Connecticut state legislator\, executive\, and UConn School of Business alum — lays out a recipe for entrepreneurs of any age to reach for their dreams. Boucher explores the stories of her father\, who brought her family to the United States when she was a little girl\, and her late husband\, Bud\, both of whom\, despite risks and failures\, never gave up until they found success. That dogged determination and the incredible success of Bud’s businesses allowed Toni to name the Boucher Management and Entrepreneurship Department at the UConn School of Business in his honor. The Husky Effect is a deep dive into UConn’s innovative approaches to teaching entrepreneurship and the key figures who are reshaping the curriculum to emphasize hands-on experience\, emotional intelligence and a multidisciplinary approach. \nPraise for The Husky Effect \n“The Husky Effect takes readers inside the bold initiatives — cutting-edge\, hands-on learning in venture investing and groundbreaking research in entrepreneurship — that are equipping the next generation of trailblazers.”  — Greg Reilly\, Interim Dean\, UConn School of Business \nBoucher is serving her first four-year term as the first selectman of Wilton after a lengthy career in public service for the state of Connecticut\, including in the CT State Senate and CT House of Representatives. Boucher recently retired from her career in the private sector as director of a leading $30 billion asset management company. She has an MBA from UConn\, has founded several startups\, and is now helping the UConn School of Business grow its entrepreneurship and student-run investment programs. Toni is a 40-year resident of Wilton and has three children and six grandchildren. \nCopies of The Husky Effect will be available for purchase and signing after the program. \nRegistration for this program is requested. SUMMARY:The Wilton Playshop Presents Stephen Sondheim’s “Into The Woods”
DESCRIPTION:One of Stephen Sondheim’s most popular and beloved works\, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated and emotionally resonant show that masterfully weaves together the stories of some of our most cherished fairy tale characters. With a brilliant score that showcases Sondheim’s unmatched lyrical talent\, the musical brings characters like Cinderella\, Little Red Riding Hood\, Jack (of Jack and the Beanstalk fame)\, and the Baker and his Wife together in a shared quest that is at once whimsical and profound. \nInto the Woods takes audiences on an enchanting journey through the woods\, where dreams\, desires\, and wishes intertwine\, and the consequences of those wishes become more complicated and far-reaching than anyone could have anticipated. As the story unfolds\, Sondheim’s intricate storytelling offers layers of humor\, darkness\, and deep introspection\, creating a timeless narrative that resonates with audiences across generations.

SUMMARY:Spring Migration Birding at Allen's Meadow and its Community Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Come along on this free spring migration bird walk at Allen’s Meadow led by expert birder\, conservationist\, master gardener and Wilton resident Joe Bear. Bear will lead a leisurely two-hour walk through the diverse habitats this well-known birding hot spot has to offer — open fields\, woods\, woodland edges\, pond and swamp — to seek out returning summer residents\, those on their way to northern breeding grounds\, and maybe a vagrant or two. Previous spring walks have yielded a wide variety of species\, including both orchard and Baltimore orioles\, bobolink\, indigo bunting\, scarlet tanager\, eastern kingbird\, rose-breasted grosbeak\, flycatchers\, vireos and a variety of colorful warblers.  We’ll also get a chance to see up close eastern bluebirds and tree swallows vying for one of the 12 nest boxes that Bear erected in and around the Little Bluestem meadow. \nRegister online. \nPark at field sign 6 in the large gravel parking lot.
