Whether it’s a classic coda after a nice\, long lunch or a perfect prelude to a romantic dinner\, Tierney’s engaging stage presence and fabulous vocals over Tamir’s dynamic and inventive piano will enchant as well as entertain us. Their special repertoire for this concert will guarantee a memorable afternoon of jazz. \nFrom a concert review: “Watching Hendelman’s marvelous hands fly across the keyboard\, one is reminded of the likes of Oscar Peterson\, Chick Corea\, and Keith Jarrett.” And The New York Times called Tierney Sutton “a serious jazz artist who takes the enterprise to a whole other level.” \nNine-time Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton has received a “Best Jazz Vocal Album” Grammy nod for every project she has released in the last decade. Known for her impeccable voice and imaginative treatments of The Great American Songbook\, Sutton is heralded for her abilities as both a jazz storyteller and her ability to use her voice as an instrument. In May 2016 Tierney was approached by legendary Director Clint Eastwood to work on his box-office smash-hit Sully. The score was created by Tierney Sutton Band pianist\, Christian Jacob\, The Tierney Sutton Band\, and Clint Eastwood. The end-title song “Flying Home” features music by Eastwood and lyrics by Tierney Sutton and JB Eckl and was performed by Tierney Sutton and The Tierney Sutton Band. \nBorn in Tel Aviv\, pianist\, composer and arranger Tamir Hendelman has resided in Southern California for many years\, but it’s fair to say the world is his home. A long-time member of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra\, he has recorded with Barbra Streisand and Natalie Cole\, performed with Benny Golson and Terell Stafford and has been a guest artist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Winston-Salem Symphony. SUMMARY:Wilton Library Presents Solo Exhibition “Western Stars” by Redding Artist Robert Mars
DESCRIPTION:Wilton Library’s February art exhibition\, “Western Stars\,” will showcase the works of Redding resident Robert Mars. In this new body of work\, Mars explores the intersection of myth and memory\, drawing connections between classic Western films and the glowing iconography of vintage neon signs\, both of which shaped the mythology of the American West by transforming history into enduring symbols of freedom\, danger\, and rugged individualism. Mars pairs cinematic drama with luminous roadside Americana to examine how these myths persist in cultural memory\, flickering between fact and fantasy\, darkness and light. \nThe “Western Stars” opening reception on Friday\, Feb. 6\, from 6-7:30 p.m. is free and open to the public. The exhibition runs through Friday\, Feb. 27. A majority of the works will be available for purchase\, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library.
