DESCRIPTION:The Inland Wetlands Commission was established to conserve\, protect\, supervise\, and regulate the wetlands and watercourses within the Town of Wilton.  The Commission is comprised of seven members who serve in three-year terms. \nThe Commission is responsible for administering the Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Regulations for the Town. DESCRIPTION:Judson Scruton will lead a 4-part series using selected poems from Nobel Prize-winner Louise Glück’s remarkable twelve books of poetry. Judson Scruton M.A (The Johns Hopkins University\, The Writing Seminars\, specializing in poetry) has taught creative writing and literature at prep schools and universities. In the words of the 2015 National Endowment for the Humanities award\, Glück’s works have given “lyrical expression to our inner conflicts. Her use of verse connects us to the myths of the ancients\, the magic of the natural world\, and the essence of who we are.” Poetry packets will be emailed in advance. No charge for the program. This seminar is made possible with the support of the Literary Series in Memory of Amy Quigley. Register online in order to receive the readings and the Zoom session invitation links. The primary function of the Board of Finance is to recommend a budget and a mill rate to the Annual Town Meeting. The Board also has the power to designate the external auditor and to approve supplemental appropriations upon the request of the Board of Selectmen or the Board of Education. SUMMARY:Town of Wilton: Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) is a nine-member elected body responsible for overseeing land use and development activity within Wilton. This involves performing a detailed review and analysis of certain development proposals and making decisions based on established regulatory criteria. Other responsibilities include the review of zoning regulation amendment applications\, changes to the Town’s zoning map\, applications involving the subdivision of land\, and the evaluation of mandatory referrals from the Board of Selectmen. \nThe PZC oversees long-range planning initiatives\, including the preparation of the Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development. DESCRIPTION:The 56th Annual Meeting of the Wilton Land Conservation Trust will be held remotely on Wednesday\, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. In addition to the election of Trustees for a four-year term commencing at the meeting and the conduct of customary business\, the Land Trust’s new executive director\, David McCarthy\, will present an overview of objectives for the coming year. \nThe Annual Meeting is an opportunity to learn about the WLCT\, its accomplishments in 2020\, and plans for 2021. The WLCT welcomes all to attend. Advanced registration is required and can be done online. \nThe Wilton Land Conservation Trust was established in 1964 by a small group of citizens seeking to preserve Wilton’s beautiful open spaces. It is a private\, nonprofit 501c3 organization\, entirely owned by its over 350 members and funded by those members and the generous support of the community. DESCRIPTION:The Arts at St. Matthew’s–Digital Concert Series\nFor tickets and details visit the Arts at St. Matthew’s website or email with questions. \nSt. Matthew’s Episcopal Church‘s artist in residence Scott Ellaway and the Arts at St. Matthew’s are pleased to announce a very innovative and exciting three-concert digital series. The concerts will be broadcast over Zoom with the first on Wednesday\, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. In these 50-minute concerts\, Ellaway will introduce you to composers that may be new to you as well as some you know well. In addition\, the concert audience will be invited to ask the musicians questions via Zoom chat. \nThe Oct. 21 concert will feature the American composer Nico Muhly through a performance of “Set Me as a Seal” followed by a performance of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 by musicians from Orchestra Europa\, of which Scott is artistic director. \nOn Feb. 24\, 2021\, Ellaway will introduce us to the music of Leonard Bernstein through his beloved Chichester Psalms. We will also hear “Notturno” composed by Michael Tilson Thomas. Musicians for this program will be drawn from the Vienna Philharmonic as well as Orchestra Europa. \nThe final concert on May 12\, 2021\, will feature the British composer Patrick Gowers with his “Viri Galilaei” and a performance of “Four Organs” by Steven Reich. Musicians from the London Symphony will join Orchestra Europa for our final program. \nThese concerts promise an evening of enlightenment and enjoyment for the audience and a chance to support future events by the Arts at St. Matthew’s. \nTickets are $25 with a reduced price of $10 for seniors and students. A 10% discount for series subscribers is available. Children 13 and under are free. For a $250 contribution\, patrons will receive a ticket as well as access to scheduled rehearsals throughout the season. DESCRIPTION:Judson Scruton will lead a 4-part series using selected poems from Nobel Prize-winner Louise Glück’s remarkable twelve books of poetry. Judson Scruton M.A (The Johns Hopkins University\, The Writing Seminars\, specializing in poetry) has taught creative writing and literature at prep schools and universities. In the words of the 2015 National Endowment for the Humanities award\, Glück’s works have given “lyrical expression to our inner conflicts. Her use of verse connects us to the myths of the ancients\, the magic of the natural world\, and the essence of who we are.” Poetry packets will be emailed in advance. No charge for the program. DESCRIPTION:In the 14th year of the collaboration between Wilton Library and the Wilton Historical Society\, the scholarly lecture series held virtually focuses on the theme of “Connecticut Creativity.” In this presentation\, “The Story of Famous Artists School and its Connecticut Roots\,” Stephanie Haboush Plunkett and Magdalen Livesey look at the lasting influence of the Famous Artists School and the artists who contributed to it on the world of illustration from the twentieth century until today. Stephanie Haboush Plunkett is the Deputy Director and Chief Curator of the Norman Rockwell Museum. Magdalen Livesey is a writer and freelance editor. She and her husband\, Robert Livesey\, owned Famous Artists School from 1982 to 2016. No charge; donations welcome.
