SUMMARY:CT United Ride will Cruise Through Wilton for 20th Anniversary of 9/11
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, Sept. 11\, 2021\, the CT United Ride\, to support 9/11 first responders and their families\, will pass through Wilton. Now in its 20th year\, the ride is Connecticut’s largest 9/11 tribute. Danbury Rd./Route 7 northbound in Wilton will be closed to traffic as the motorcycle procession\, led by the Connecticut State Police\, proceeds through town from approximately 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. More than 3\,000 motorcycles and 5\,000 riders are expected to pass through on the route in front of 20\,000-plus spectators in 10 towns. \nWilton Police and Wilton CERT members will be on hand to assist in closing intersections. Anyone who needs to travel during this time should make alternate arrangements to avoid Rte.7 between Westport Rd. north to Rte.107 in Georgetown. \nThe CT United Ride is an annual tradition remembering those who lost their lives during the terrorist attack in 2001. The ride also fundraises for firefighters and law enforcement officers throughout the state. \nThe route winds through Norwalk\, Westport\, Wilton\, Redding\, Bethel\, Monroe\, Newtown\, Trumbull\, Fairfield and Bridgeport. Riders are often dressed in patriotic red\, white and blue and carry American Flags on motorcycles that stretch out over miles\, and it usually takes up to 45 minutes for the entire line of riders to pass through Wilton. \nThe first year’s ride was staged as a fundraiser for New York City following the attacks at the World Trade Center. Now\, proceeds from the donations from riders support Connecticut law enforcement\, firefighters and two United Way organizations. Riders and passengers pay $30 apiece to participate. \nRoute 7 northbound will be closed to traffic other than the CT United Ride\, for the duration of the motorcade. Riders are expected to enter the town at approximately 11:45 a.m. traveling north. It is anticipated that the motorcade will last for approximately 45 minutes\, leaving Wilton at approximately 12:30 p.m. \nDuring this time access to sections of Rte. 33 (Westport Rd.) and Rte. 7 (Danbury Rd.) will be restricted. Specifically\, adjacent streets on the east side of Rte. 7\, north of the Rte. 7 and Westport Rd. intersection\, will not be able to enter Rte. 7. In addition\, adjacent streets on the west side of Rte. 7 will be restricted to entering Rte. 7 in a southbound direction only. Wilton Police officers along with members of Wilton CERT will be staged at all major intersections along the motorcade route to assist with traffic. Wilton’s safety officers ask motorists to plan travel arrangements accordingly. \nPolice also say that spectators are urged to pick a safe location to view the motorcade. With plenty of parking available at the tennis courts and Wilton High School\, plus accessible sidewalks\, watching the motorcade between School Rd. and Wilton High School is an optimal spot. There’s typically a large American flag held aloft by a cherry picker aerial truck over Rte. 7 at that intersection.

DESCRIPTION:Wilton resident Gail Lavielle\, the former assistant minority leader in CT’s legislature\, in coordination with the Wilton Republican Town Committee (RTC)\, will host “How Wilton Works” on Monday\, Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m. This virtual event will provide Wiltonians with an overview of the town’s municipal government\, providing a “Wilton 101” on subjects including how the town budget is set and the roles of elected and appointed commissions. \n“With so many newcomers to Wilton and with a local election coming up on Nov. 2\, this is the right time to offer a refresher course on Wilton’s unique form of participatory self-government\,” said RTC Chairman Peter Wrampe. “A well-informed electorate is the best way to ensure that our town remains independent and well managed. \n“It is important to note that this is not a political or promotional event; no current candidates for office will be participating [as a presenter] in the presentation\,” Wrampe added. “It is designed exclusively to help residents understand our unique local form of government. Wiltonians of all political persuasions are welcome to attend.” [Editor’s note: Wrampe is a Republican candidate running in the Constable race for Election 2021. (Election 2021 Policies) \nLavielle\, a former member of Wilton’s Board of Finance and the town’s Energy Commission\, will be joined by current members of the four major town boards. The primary function of the Board of Finance is to recommend a budget and a mill rate to the Annual Town Meeting. Allen’s Meadow is a well-known hot spot due to its open fields\, woodland edges\, and water features. Come join Wilton resident and expert birder Joe Bear as we look for warblers\, vireos\, tanagers\, orioles\, an assortment of sparrows\, and several species of raptors occupying the skies. Bring binoculars and meet at the north end of the parking lot near the Field 6 sign. A common fear is that an already challenging situation may get worse because of unresolved issues\, conflict or loss of trust among interested parties. When it comes to PPT or 504 meetings with parents and school personnel\, the stakes are often high: decisions made during these meetings can ultimately determine the educational services your child receives and the direction of his/her future path. \nIn this workshop\, Todd Kellogg\, LMFT\, BCBA\, a licensed behavior analyst and family therapist\, will discuss the importance of effective communication skills; how you\, as parents\, can become more emotionally self-aware during difficult conversations; how to avoid falling “heart first” into conflict with school-based teams; and how to forge collaborative relationships with school personnel despite disagreements and competing priorities. \nThis event is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:Garden Club Celebrates 100th Anniversary with Flower Show
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Garden Club will host a flower show on Friday\, Sept. 24 from 1-4 p.m. and Saturday\, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. as part of the Club’s Centennial celebrations. \nWilton’s historic Old Town Hall\, (2 Belden Hill Ln.) will be transformed with floral designs reflecting fashion and flowers during the last 100 years\, as well as photography\, conservation\, and local horticulture exhibits. \n“We are excited to celebrate our history in such a meaningful way with the community\,” said flower show Co-Chair Yolanda Bonomo\, who noted that Wilton Garden Club’s first flower show was held in 1922\, one year after its founding. \nThe public is invited to experience this extraordinary creative and educational event and enjoy the colorful displays evoking the history of the Club throughout the decades. This will be a judged National Garden Club Small Standard Flower Show. \nA Century of Flowers in Fashion will be a flower extravaganza as it spotlights 28 creative floral and botanical designs reflecting fashion and flowers in vogue from the Roaring 20s\, when the Club was established\, through the 1980s and to the present day. Expect to see Fancy Flapper\, Gatsby\, Rock and Roll\, Old Hollywood\, Disco and eclectic 1980s designs presented. \nAlways popular and fun to see will be the local horticulture display\, which will encompass a huge variety of prime flower specimens selected from Club Members’ gardens. A special treat this year will be the photography division\, entitled “Hometown Photo Shoot” with black and white and color photos capturing beauty and nature in Wilton. \nAn educational conservation exhibit will guide the public on the ecological importance of incorporating native plants in local landscapes and the necessity of identifying and removing invasive plants and shrubs to protect wildlife. Several other fascinating displays by the Club’s award-winning Youth Gardeners will demonstrate their design expertise as well as knowledge of horticulture. Wilton’s Girl Scouts will grace the Old Town Hall landscape with fairy garden mini vignettes designed by their collections of plant material in all shapes\, textures\, and colors. \nWilton is expected to remain lush and blooming after a hot and rain-filled summer turns to fall\, a perfect time for the public to enjoy the creativity of the Wilton Garden Club members as they showcase their commitment to horticulture\, education\, and conservation while celebrating the Club’s 100th birthday. \nThe event is free with a suggested $10 donation. Parking should be accessed from Belden Hill Rd. at Belden Hill Ln. near the Ridgefield Rd. intersection and traffic light. DESCRIPTION:Fall migration has begun with millions of birds taking to the skies having left their North American breeding grounds and heading as far south as the Pampas grasslands in Argentina for the Winter. Allen’s Meadow is a well-known hot spot due to its open fields\, woodland edges\, and water features. Come join Wilton resident and expert birder Joe Bear as we look for warblers\, vireos\, tanagers\, orioles\, an assortment of sparrows\, and several species of raptors occupying the skies. Bring binoculars and meet at the north end of the parking lot near the Field 6 sign. SUMMARY:Garden Club Celebrates 100th Anniversary with Flower Show
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Garden Club will host a flower show on Friday\, Sept. 24 from 1-4 p.m. and Saturday\, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. as part of the Club’s Centennial celebrations. \nWilton’s historic Old Town Hall\, (2 Belden Hill Ln.) will be transformed with floral designs reflecting fashion and flowers during the last 100 years\, as well as photography\, conservation\, and local horticulture exhibits. \n“We are excited to celebrate our history in such a meaningful way with the community\,” said flower show Co-Chair Yolanda Bonomo\, who noted that Wilton Garden Club’s first flower show was held in 1922\, one year after its founding. \nThe public is invited to experience this extraordinary creative and educational event and enjoy the colorful displays evoking the history of the Club throughout the decades. This will be a judged National Garden Club Small Standard Flower Show. \nA Century of Flowers in Fashion will be a flower extravaganza as it spotlights 28 creative floral and botanical designs reflecting fashion and flowers in vogue from the Roaring 20s\, when the Club was established\, through the 1980s and to the present day. Expect to see Fancy Flapper\, Gatsby\, Rock and Roll\, Old Hollywood\, Disco and eclectic 1980s designs presented. \nAlways popular and fun to see will be the local horticulture display\, which will encompass a huge variety of prime flower specimens selected from Club Members’ gardens. A special treat this year will be the photography division\, entitled “Hometown Photo Shoot” with black and white and color photos capturing beauty and nature in Wilton. \nAn educational conservation exhibit will guide the public on the ecological importance of incorporating native plants in local landscapes and the necessity of identifying and removing invasive plants and shrubs to protect wildlife. Several other fascinating displays by the Club’s award-winning Youth Gardeners will demonstrate their design expertise as well as knowledge of horticulture. Wilton’s Girl Scouts will grace the Old Town Hall landscape with fairy garden mini vignettes designed by their collections of plant material in all shapes\, textures\, and colors. \nWilton is expected to remain lush and blooming after a hot and rain-filled summer turns to fall\, a perfect time for the public to enjoy the creativity of the Wilton Garden Club members as they showcase their commitment to horticulture\, education\, and conservation while celebrating the Club’s 100th birthday. \nThe event is free with a suggested $10 donation. Parking should be accessed from Belden Hill Rd. at Belden Hill Ln. near the Ridgefield Rd. intersection and traffic light.
