For several decades\, this event has highlighted Woodcock’s nearly five miles of publicly accessible trails and raised money for the center’s educational programs. \nThe popular 5K\, which kicks-off at 9 a.m.\, is 90% trail with a mix of groomed trails\, rugged trails and narrow bridges/boardwalks. The terrain of the 5K will highlight the diversity and beauty of the Woodcock property. \nA shorter 1K Kids Fun Run geared towards ages 6-and-up kicks-off at 8:30 a.m.. This course is appropriate for walkers and runners of all ages. Parents are welcome to accompany their children. \nAfter the Kids Fun Run families are invited to stick around for some unique post-race festivities on the nature center grounds\, including food\, music\, games\, nature crafts\, animal encounters\, and more. The nature center building\, which is home to more than 20 reptiles and amphibians\, will be open for visiting as will the natural playground and fitness trail. \nWoodcock welcomes interested businesses to inquire about sponsorship opportunities which can include inclusion on the race t-shirt\, cross-promotions and a table at the race finish. Special thanks to current sponsors\, many of whom will be in attendance:  Fairfield County Bank\, Outdoor Sports Center\, Ridgefield Pediatrics and Merrell. \nOrganizers are expecting over 150 participants\, so runners are encouraged to register in advance on the Woodcock website. DESCRIPTION:First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice will read a Proclamation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Tuesday\, Oct. 8\, at 9 a.m. at Wilton High School. \nMembers of the Wilton Domestic Violence Task Force\, Wilton Police\, Teen PeaceWorks and other officials will be there. The event has usually been held at Town Hall\, but this year has been moved to a new location at Wilton High School in front of the flagpole (corner of Catalpa Rd. and Kristine Lily Way) in order to include some of the student population. \nTraditionally the members of the Teen PeaceWorks group have tied purple ribbons around trees in Wilton Center–the same number as the number of domestic violence calls received by the Wilton Police for that year. Instead\, the task force will use purple pinwheels to represent the number of calls this year.

DESCRIPTION:Meeting in Room 18 of the Comstock Community Center on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:15 p.m.\, the Economic Development Commission (EDC) works to improve Wilton’s reputation as a place where the enhanced quality of life for workers and residents attracts new businesses\, relocation of current businesses\, and success for existing businesses. The commission has worked since 2012 on assisting current business owners in maintaining and expanding their business\, to increase available commercial space in the town\, and to expand the commercial sector through fostering a friendly attitude towards business in Wilton.

The 9-in. fruit pies are frozen\, ready for you to bake for a special occasion; 8-in. cream pies and 10-in. pumpkin pies are thaw-and-serve. \nPies must be ordered by Friday\, Oct. 18 with pick-up at the Academy on Monday\, Nov. 25. \nAvailable Flavors:  Apple Caramel Walnut\, Hi-Top Apple\, Apple Crumb\, Bumbleberry (apples\, cherries\, raspberries\, blueberries and blackberries)\, Chocolate Cream\, Banana Cream\, Chocolate Peanut Butter with Brownie Bottom all at $17; Pumpkin\, Orchard Blueberry and Peach Crumb all at $18. SUMMARY:Abilis LEAP Transition Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Abilis\, the non-profit organization that provides services and support to more than 700 individuals with special needs and their families\, is hosting a free LEAP Transition Information Session in Wilton on Thursday\, Oct. 10\, from 5:30-7 p.m.. The Wilton session will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church (36 New Canaan Rd.). The event is free and open to the public; registration is required and available online. \nThe information session is for families to participate in an interactive discussion about Transition Programming for Young Adults with Special Needs. The goal of the Abilis community-based program is to help young adults become more independent\, obtain meaningful jobs\, and participate in community activities. Representatives from Abilis will provide an overview about the Abilis LEAP Transition Program\, discuss the initial steps required to determine the potential programs and services a family member might consider\, and review the vocational skills\, life skills\, cognitive social development\, and community involvement that needs to be considered when living as an independent adult. Abilis offers multiple transition programs throughout Fairfield County in the towns of Greenwich\, New Canaan\, Stamford\, Westport\, Wilton and Ridgefield. \nAbilis is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports more than 700 individuals with special needs and their families from birth throughout their lives. Abilis has been a leader in serving the special needs community in Fairfield County in towns including\, Darien\, Greenwich\, New Canaan\, Norwalk\, Ridgefield\, Stamford\, Westport\, Weston and Wilton\, and has a long-standing reputation for individualized\, high quality care.
