SUMMARY:Municipal Election 2019 Wilton Candidates' Forums
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton League of Women Voters\, the Wilton Library\, and GOOD Morning Wilton will be jointly sponsoring two evening events to provide voters the opportunity to meet the candidates for this year’s municipal elections and to pose questions that will highlight candidate goals and priorities to make critical town decisions. \nThe first forum on Tuesday\, Oct. 22 will present candidates running for Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance. The second forum on Tuesday\, Oct. 29 will present the candidates running for the Board of Education and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Each event will follow a modified town hall format and be moderated by certified\, out of town League of Women Voters moderators\, who will present questions submitted by the public to all candidates. Questions for the candidates may be emailed in advance through the Wilton League of Women Voters. The candidate forums will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run back to back with a brief break between the panels for that evening. \nBoth events will be streamed live and recorded by GOOD Morning Wilton\, and will be made available to community members on the GOOD Morning Wilton and Wilton League of Women Voters websites. Advance registration to attend in person is highly recommended for each forum and may be done online at the Wilton Library website or by calling 203.762.6334. SUMMARY:2nd Annual Community Trick or Treat Event with Wilton Commons Seniors
DESCRIPTION:Wilton Commons is hosting its 2nd Annual Community Trick or Treat event on Friday\, Oct. 25\, at 5 p.m.. Both Wilton Commons and Wilton Commons Congregate communities will have a fun role in the festivities. We’re welcoming all children to attend this bootiful event! \nAnyone that is interested in sponsoring candy or participating in this event can email Melody Gonzalez. \nWilton Commons has a total of 70 units that will be potentially participating in the candy giveaway. Kids\, accompanied by an adult\, will walk by the units to enjoy their trick or treating. There are three floors\, and each will be judged collectively on creativity. \nFollowing the trick or treating\, Wilton Commons Main Community room will be set up as a haunted area where our kids will end their night enjoying activities\, taking pictures with our seniors\, and having fresh popcorn from our popcorn machine. During this time\, kids will also be placing their votes on their favorite floor. The floor with the most votes will win a spooktacular surprise! \nVisitor parking is available at Trackside Teen Center; if that lot is full\, additional parking is available at Commonfund (the building and lot across from Trackside.

DESCRIPTION:The 1st Annual Wilton Monster Mash will take place on Saturday\, Oct. 26\, from 7-11 p.m. at Trackside Teen Center. Proceeds from the event will benefit both organizations. \nSponsorships are still available at a variety of levels. Donations such as merchandise and gift certificates from local businesses or individuals are also being sought for prizes. All sponsors will receive recognition in signage and event materials\, including those distributed to the entire school community. DESCRIPTION:Has the back-to-school honeymoon worn off? As school gets into full swing\, the academic and social stresses can get to be too much\, and result in behavioral changes. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Child and Adolescent Network (CAN) is a support group for parents of children with behavioral\, emotional and mental health issues. The meeting is free\, confidential\, safe and led by trained volunteer facilitators who themselves have had personal experiences raising children with these concerns. Parents come from Redding\, Weston\, Westport\, Wilton and towns in the surrounding area. DESCRIPTION:The Wilton League of Women Voters\, the Wilton Library\, and GOOD Morning Wilton will be jointly sponsoring two evening events to provide voters the opportunity to meet the candidates for this year’s municipal elections and to pose questions that will highlight candidate goals and priorities to make critical town decisions. \nThe first forum on Tuesday\, Oct. 22 will present candidates running for Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance. The second forum on Tuesday\, Oct. 29 will present the candidates running for the Board of Education and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Each event will follow a modified town hall format and be moderated by certified\, out of town League of Women Voters moderators\, who will present questions submitted by the public to all candidates. Questions for the candidates may be emailed in advance through the Wilton League of Women Voters. The candidate forums will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run back to back with a brief break between the panels for that evening. \nBoth events will be streamed live and recorded by GOOD Morning Wilton\, and will be made available to community members on the GOOD Morning Wilton and Wilton League of Women Voters websites. Advance registration to attend in person is highly recommended for each forum and may be done online at the Wilton Library website or by calling 203.762.6334. DESCRIPTION:This program\, developed by the authors of the book by the same name\, uses lessons\, role-play\, and practice to help parents develop more effective skills for communicating with their children. In this workshop\, participants will learn how to: \n\nEngage your child’s willing cooperation\nDeal with your child’s negative feelings–frustration\, disappointment\, anger\nExpress your anger without being hurtful\nSet firm limits and still maintain goodwill\nUse alternatives to punishment that promote self-discipline\nEncourage positive relationships between your children\nResolve family conflicts peacefully\n\nThe workshops are free and limited to Wilton parents. DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Playshop is proud to present the clever and witty drama\, The Lion in Winter\, by James Goldman. Directed by Richard Mancini\, the play will run from Oct. 25-Nov. 9. \nSibling rivalry\, adultery\, and dungeons–The Lion in Winter is a modern-day classic. Comedic in tone\, dramatic in action\, the play tells the story of the Plantagenet family\, who are locked in a free-for-all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom. The queen and wealthiest woman in the world\, Eleanor of Aquitaine\, has been kept in prison since raising an army against her husband\, King Henry II. Let out only for holidays\, the play centers around the inner conflicts of the royal family as they fight over both a kingdom and King Henry’s paramour during the Christmas of 1183. SUMMARY:Person-to-Person Postal Food Drive
DESCRIPTION:Letter carriers in Wilton are delivering grocery bags and shopping lists to all postal customers in advance of the annual Wilton Postal Food Drive on Saturday\, Nov. 2. \nWith 11% of people living in Fairfield County struggling with food insecurity–including more than 14% of children who don’t know where their next meal is coming from–the Person-to-Person Food Pantry is a critical resource for our neighbors in Wilton\, Westport\, Weston and Norwalk. \nWilton residents are encouraged to leave a bag of non-perishable groceries at their mailbox this Saturday morning or drop it off at the Wilton Post Office on Hubbard Rd.. The Person-to-Person pantry is currently in need of items such as hearty soups\, pasta and sauce\, canned beans and tuna\, jelly and peanut butter. In the event of rain or other inclement weather\, please protect your donations in a plastic bag.
