SUMMARY:Finding Higher Ground with the Wilton Woman’s Club
DESCRIPTION:In this unusual political climate\, and with the turbulent waters of a pandemic to navigate\, it’s essential to our well being that we find higher ground. So what does this mean? In order to find peace\, we must elevate. Rise to a higher altitude. \nPlease join the Wilton Woman’s Club (WWC) on Thursday\, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. via Zoom for a special evening that is centered around you returning to the center of your peace and gaining a sense of higher altitude in the challenges of your life. \nWilton Licensed Psychotherapist\, Chausey Leebron will lead us on a guided meditation\, teach skills based on the principles of Spiritual Psychology\, and take questions on how to process challenges we may be facing. To learn more about Leebron\, please visit her website. \nWe are grateful to offer you this unique opportunity for renewal that will be especially supportive just before the holidays. SUMMARY:Wilton Residents Perform Concert to Benefit Griffin Hospital and Person to Person
DESCRIPTION:When the pandemic struck in March\, forcing the closure of all but essential services\, Wilton pianist Kyong Hee Cho seriously considered retiring from teaching. \n“Knowing that I wouldn’t be able to meet with my students in person and hear them live to share delicate musical ideas was very depressing. I was equally saddened by the inability to have concerts with live audiences. Music is about having listeners and a venue in which my students could share their accomplishments\,” she said. “I encourage even my beginning students to participate in recitals for residents of the New Canaan Inn at Halloween and Christmas\, and I invite my advanced students to perform in Playing By Heart\, a yearly benefit concert to raise money for causes the performers choose. It all seemed too great a loss\, but in the end\, it was my students who changed my mind. They wanted to continue and I wanted them to keep practicing.” \nIn late April\, she began giving online lessons\, and as positivity rates declined\, she retrofitted her studio to offer lessons in person safely. “My musical training emphasized perfection\, but in adjusting my teaching\, I have learned more about my students\,” she added. \nCho said it was the persistence and “heart” of her students that has made possible this year’s concert\, presented through Eventbrite on Sunday\, Nov. 29\, at 4 p.m. Proceeds will be divided between Griffin Hospital in Derby and Person-to-Person in Darien. At the height of the pandemic \n“Griffin experienced a tremendous adverse financial impact from COVID-19\, which has resulted from the need to make significant investments in personal protective equipment\, facility modifications\, and direct caregiver staffing increases to expand capacity.” \nServing the towns of lower Fairfield County\, Person-to-Person provides for the immediate needs of families in crisis\, providing food\, clothing and financial assistance to individuals attempting to find their way out of poverty. \nThe extensive practice and preparation was nothing new to veteran performer Sharon Kesselman\, a Wilton resident who has played in seven previous concerts\, but the venue was. Although she admits to suffering nervousness in live concerts\, she acknowledged that this format had its own drawbacks. “I miss the acoustics of a concert venue\, which capture the sound better than playing from home.” \nFellow pianists Sophie Wang and Brianna Heckle are happy and excited to perform because despite the pandemic they will be able to share music for a wonderful cause. Maya Kesselman\, Sharon’s daughter\, who will play flute said\, “I’m excited to be in the concert after being in the audience for seven years.” \nTickets are available online. Although the suggested donation is $15\, all amounts will be gratefully received.

SUMMARY:Sip N’ Shop Celebrates 5th Year in COVID Style–Online!
DESCRIPTION:Neither rain\, sleet\, nor COVID-19 will prevent Janet Montalbano of Let’s Make Up from hosting her 5th annual Sip N’ Shop charity event to benefit Circle of Care\, a non-profit organization that offers programs and services to support children with cancer and their families. \nJustin Baiad of Justin Baiad Photography\, and Liza Mariani\, Life Coach and Tarot Card Reader\, will be the co-hosts this year. Baiad is the photographer of choice for numerous Fairfield County charity events and Mariani is well-known for her abilities to connect with and inspire people. Baiad will donate 50% and Mariani will donate 100% of their December proceeds to Circle of Care. \nThis year’s event will be quite different due to restrictions placed on social gatherings. The event will be held online\, beginning Sunday\, Dec. 6\, and ending Thursday\, Dec. 31. There will be a variety of vendors\, such as a mobile massage therapist\, an expert stonemason\, boutique gift merchants\, and Dave’s Planet Pizza who will be donating a portion of all meals ordered to Circle of Care. The event resonates with everyone because it involves small businesses supporting other small businesses\, while also benefitting a fantastic local charity. With everyone suffering now in so many ways\, this event will bring joy and satisfaction to everyone who participates\, vendors and customers alike. \nMontalbano’s goal this year is to raise $25\,000. Her Sip N’ Shop events have raised over $100\,000 to benefit Circle of Care. “During this time when so many of us are isolated and depressed\, I hope this event will brighten everyone’s day. I am so proud of Sip N’ Shop’s success and thankful for the support of the community that made this happen. I know we can do it again\,” she said. \nThis year there will be Platinum and Gold Sponsorships available for $1\,000 and $300 donations\, respectively. In addition\, sponsors and donors who give $200 or more to Circle of Care (mentioning Sip ‘N Shop when donating) will have their names placed in a drawing for over $2\,500 worth of prizes. Prizes include a weekend getaway\, bicycle\, make-up session and more. In addition\, sponsors will have their ads placed daily on the Facebook page and can choose one ad to remain on the Sip ‘n Shop Facebook page for the year. \nSo Sip N’ Shop from your favorite chair this year and buy well to do good.

SUMMARY:The Wilton Playshop presents "Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help."
DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Playshop is excited to present Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This new comedy by Katie Forgette has been described by the playwright as “Brighton Beach Memoirs for the Catholic crowd.” The virtual reading\, directed by Mike Boland and produced by Sarah Lee Michaels\, will be livestreamed on Sunday\, Dec. 6\, at 3 p.m. The stellar cast comprised of many professional actors includes Dandy Barrett\, Mike Boland\, Sarah Lee Michaels\, Lisa Naso\, Heidi Weeks\, and Annie Winneg. \nTold through the memory of 19-year-old Linda O’Shea\, this hilarious play brings to life the story of the O’Sheas\, a cash-challenged\, Irish-Catholic family just trying to get through 1973. Linda is attempting to re-enact for the audience the most turbulent day of her life\, her own\, very personal Saturday Night Massacre\, but her family insists on interrupting to tell their side of the story. \nIt was a time of old school living. No Facebook\, no tweets\, no texting\, no Skype. A time when public ridicule in a close-knit\, hermetically sealed Catholic parish was the ultimate nightmare. And of course\, there’s Grandma\, ruling the household from her upstairs bedroom\, banging her baseball bat on the floor to get attention\, and service\, from the rest of the family. When Linda’s parents leave it to her to tell her younger sister about the birds and the bees\, the bawdy conversation is somehow overheard by the parish priest…and Father Lovett is not amused. He sets out to confront the family about “the corruption of their eldest daughter’s soul.” \nIn an effort to deliver live theater to their audience in this trying time\, the Wilton Playshop will be offering this livestream reading at no cost. Donations are accepted and appreciated for those able to do so. \nRecommended for ages 16 and up due to adult themes. \nPlease visit the Wilton Playshop website for more information.
