SUMMARY:Town of Wilton: Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) is a nine-member elected body responsible for overseeing land use and development activity within Wilton. This involves performing a detailed review and analysis of certain development proposals and making decisions based on established regulatory criteria. Other responsibilities include the review of zoning regulation amendment applications\, changes to the Town’s zoning map\, applications involving the subdivision of land\, and the evaluation of mandatory referrals from the Board of Selectmen. \nThe PZC oversees long-range planning initiatives\, including the preparation of the Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development. SUMMARY:Birding at Allen's Meadow with Joe Bear
DESCRIPTION:Fall migration has begun with millions of birds taking to the skies having left their North American breeding grounds and heading as far south as the Pampas grasslands in Argentina for the Winter. Allen’s Meadow is a well-known hot spot due to its open fields\, woodland edges\, and water features. Come join Wilton resident and expert birder Joe Bear as we look for warblers\, vireos\, tanagers\, orioles\, an assortment of sparrows\, and several species of raptors occupying the skies. Bring binoculars and meet at the north end of the parking lot near the Field 6 sign. This is a Norwalk River Watershed Association-sponsored event. \nThere are four events\, register online for any of the walks.

Together\, they have created a unique opportunity for participants to learn about Wilton’s environment while walking through it with staff naturalists. SUMMARY:Woodcock Nature Center: Where the Wild Things Run 5K and Kids Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:Woodcock Nature Center welcomes runners\, hikers\, and walkers of all ages at its annual Where the Wild Things Run 5K and Kids Fun Run on Sunday\, Oct. 3 at 8:30 am. For several decades\, this event has highlighted Woodcock’s nearly 5 miles of publicly accessible trails and raised money for the center’s educational programs. \nThe popular 5K\, which kicks off at 9 am is 90% trail with a mix of groomed trails\, rugged trails\, and narrow bridges/boardwalks. Walkers are also welcome. The terrain of the 5k will highlight the diversity and beauty of the Woodcock property. \nA shorter 1K Kids Fun Run geared towards ages 6 and up kicks off at 8:30 am and is guided by a Woodcock team member. Parents are also welcome to accompany their children. \nAfter the Kids Fun Run\, families are invited to stick around for some unique post-race festivities on the nature center grounds including snacks\, music\, games\, playground fun\, nature crafts\, and the annual live turtle race at 9:15 am.  \nWoodcock welcomes interested businesses to inquire about sponsorship opportunities which can include inclusion on the race t-shirt\, cross-promotions\, and a table at the race finish. Special thanks to current sponsors Fairfield County Bank\, Outdoor Sports Center\, and Ridgefield Running Company. \nOrganizers are expecting 150 participants\, so runners are encouraged to register in advance online. Race fees are $35 for the 5K and $20 for the Kids Fun Run. Race t-shirts will only be guaranteed to participants registered by Wednesday\, Sept. 15. Prizes will be awarded to top adult finishers.

Presented by Fairfield County Bank and hosted by the Wilton Historical Society\, the market will take place every Wednesday from 12-5 p.m.\, June 2 through Oct. 27.  \nThe market is comprised of local farmers and artisans who come together and provide shoppers a venue to purchase the finest locally sourced products.
