SUMMARY:Wilton Library: Holiday Book Sale
DESCRIPTION:Wilton Library‘s annual Holiday Book Sale in the gallery is a seasonal delight with bargains galore – featuring a large array of pristine books in all categories\, including children’s and teens’\, art\, history\, cookbooks\, classics\, biographies\, and much more. This year’s sale includes a huge collection of small gift books in about 20 different categories\, perfect for stocking stuffers\, plus brand new stationery and art supplies\, puzzles\, and other gift items. Inventory is replenished frequently\, so bargain hunters are encouraged to shop early and often. All proceeds benefit the library. \nThe sale kicks off on Thursday\, Dec.  2 at 12 p.m. and continues during regular library hours through Sunday\, Jan. 2. The library will be closed on Christmas Eve\, Christmas Day\, New Year’s Eve\, and New Year’s Day. Everything will be 50% off after Saturday\, Dec. 25.

DESCRIPTION:Know any bright girls who are inflexible\, argumentative\, and emotionally over-reactive or who shut down at times? Who have been called oppositional\, avoidant or attention-seeking? Who can’t quite fit in with peers? They may have “Asperger’s\,” have NLD\, or be on the autism spectrum. \nA proper diagnosis allows us to better understand and help these girls\, rather than blame them. Instead of constantly criticizing them\, we can listen with an awareness of spectrum issues\, understand and anticipate their needs\, and provide the accommodations and environment that will help them better navigate the mainstream world. If the girls feel more accepted for who they are\, they can have higher self-esteem and learn to advocate for themselves more successfully. \nOn Wednesday\, Jan. 12\, 10-11 a.m. via Zoom\, licensed psychologist Marcia Eckerd\, PhD\, will discuss why girls are so often misinterpreted and underdiagnosed and why an accurate diagnosis is important for the girls themselves\, educators\, clinicians\, and especially parents. \nPlease register by using the Website link.

The session will run from 10 a.m.-11:30 p.m. on Wednesday\, Jan. 26.  \nThrough play\, children learn how to engage and interact successfully in the world around them. Play is\, in fact\, a critical vehicle through which children achieve healthy developmental milestones. In theory\, playing with our children sounds like it should be easy: there are no rules; there is no script. But\, in reality\, the art of play can be overwhelming and confusing\, especially when the children have not yet developed foundational people-\, play- or group skills. \nIn this session\, Meghan Cave\, BCBA\, co-founder of The Hangout Spot\, LLC\, Connecticut’s first behavior analytic social skills development center\, will outline actionable steps parents can follow to play along with their children\, promoting social success and meaningful learning along the way. \nRegistration required.
