DESCRIPTION:The Wilton Library is calling all artists and doodlers for Children’s Zooming Zentangle Fun. If you love to draw or doodle\, but think you aren’t a good artist\, this is the program for you. Using a few simple steps and techniques\, anyone can learn to create intricate artwork. This class is for children in grades 3-6 and will work equally well for first-timers and those who have a bit more experience. \nOnline registration is required. Participants will be contacted to pick up supplies a few days before the program. SUMMARY:Drinking\, Smoking\, Vaping: Trends in Teen Use and What Parents Can Do
DESCRIPTION:What exactly is “normal” when it comes to adolescent “experimentation” with alcohol\, vaping and other risky behaviors? Parents may not be aware that affluence is a risk factor for teens’ exposure to and use of alcohol\, tobacco\, cannabis and liquid nicotine (vaping) and that many high achieving teens are secretly engaged in these behaviors. In this workshop\, Elizabeth Driscoll Jorgensen\, CADC\, Director of Insight Counseling\, will help parents understand the current trends in teen behaviors as well as the possible unique risk factors for these behaviors that parents can minimize or eliminate. Parents will also learn simple and effective ways to set and maintain reasonable limits and expectations for their child’s safety and social life. Finally\, parents will have ample time to ask questions about their specific concerns. Join the Wilton community on Tuesday\, November 9 10:00am at the Wilton Library for this positive event supporting the well-being of our adolescents. \nThis program will also address the unique risk factors and considerations for the prevention of substance use for teens with learning disabilities and other special needs. We will cover teens with ADHD and other disabilities which may pose significant challenges to parents setting and maintaining safe boundaries and helping teens navigate social life. \nThis program is appropriate for parents of students in grades 6th to 12th. All interested adults are welcome to attend. \nThis program will be repeated on Zoom at 7:00 pm on November 9. \nSponsored by Wilton Youth Council in partnership with Wilton Library and SPED*NET Wilton.

DESCRIPTION:The Board of Finance exercises oversight of the Town of Wilton’s finances. The primary function of the Board of Finance is to recommend a budget and a mill rate to the Annual Town Meeting. The Board also has the power to designate the external auditor and to approve supplemental appropriations upon the request of the Board of Selectmen or the Board of Education. DESCRIPTION:Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County will be hosting weekly drive-through flu vaccine clinics at its Wilton offices on Thursday afternoons\, from Sept. 30 through Nov. 11\, 2-4:30 p.m. \nFlu vaccines are available for individuals over the age of 4 years. Younger children should be taken to a pediatrician for a vaccination. \nThe cost of a flu vaccine is $55. A high-dose vaccine is available for anyone over age 65 and the cost is $75. Visiting Nurse will bill directly to Medicare Part B\, Aetna\, Anthem\, Connecticare or Harvard Pilgrim. \nPeople wishing to register for a vaccine through the drive-through clinic should know the following: \n\nVisit the Visiting Nurse website to download\, print and complete a Consent/Registration Form and bring it to the flu clinic.\nThese are drive-through flu clinics only. Patients must remain in their vehicles at all times.\nMasks must be worn at all times.\nNo pets in the car\nWear short sleeves or sleeves that can be easily rolled up. The committee subsequently made a recommendation to the Board of Selectmen for a new headquarters in front of the existing police building. The Board of Selectmen is expected to recommend a plan to the voters at a special town meeting in early 2022. The committee encourages residents to take advantage of the tours and to learn about the building’s challenges first hand. \nA public information session that took place in October is available online.
