DESCRIPTION:The Wilton League of Women Voters (LWV)\, Wilton Library\, and GOOD Morning Wilton will cosponsor two events at Wilton Library at which voters can hear from candidates running for positions on the Board of Selectmen\, the Board of Education\, and the Board of Finance. Both events will follow a Cumulative Time Format and both will be moderated by a League of Women Voters-certified\, out-of-town moderator who will present questions submitted by the public in written form. The sessions will take place in Wilton Library’s Brubeck Room and will be live-streamed on GOOD Morning Wilton’s website. \nThe Tuesday\, Oct. 24 forum will feature the candidates running for the Board of Education. The Thursday\, Oct. 26 forum will feature the candidates running for the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance. Both events will start at 7 p.m. The sessions will provide community members an opportunity to hear from the candidates who seek to serve and make critical decisions facing the town in the coming years; and to pose questions to them that will highlight their goals and priorities. \nQuestions for the candidates may be submitted in advance through the Wilton League of Women Voters or live from the audience in the Brubeck Room. Her most recent memoir\, Everything Will Be Okay\, will be the topic of conversation between Buckmir\, Chief Operating Officer of the Domestic Violence Crisis Center Ann Rodwell-Lawton\, and Deputy Chief Robert Cipolla from the Wilton Police Department. \nBuckmir is the author of Everything Will Be Okay and Plenty of Laughs: One Woman’s Journey Navigating the Online Dating Waters. She also contributes to a biweekly dating column called\, Oh Dana that gives advice on relationship topics. Buckmir believes that storytelling not only entertains\, but reminds us that we are sharing a collective experience that makes us a little more connected and a little less lonely. This philosophy and her teaching background inspired her to create a workshop and coaching program\, Write your story: From Idea to Publication\, where she mentors aspiring authors. \nAnn Rodwell-Lawton is the Chief Operating Officer of the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC). Ann oversees DVCC’s community initiatives\, direct services programs\, and quality assurance efforts. Ann has worked in the fields of domestic violence and sexual violence for ten years. DESCRIPTION:Wilton Pride\, in collaboration with Lighthouse and Middlebrook PTA presents a peer-to-peer social support group for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies. \nMeetings are relaxed and social in nature. No bullying is ever allowed\, and everyone is given a chance to be heard in a safe and casual setting. Teens can drop in to share life experiences and feelings as well as to socialize\, enjoy snacks\, and share common bonds in Lighthouse’s confidential\, non-threatening environment. \nThis group is brought to Wilton by Lighthouse\, a program of Kids in Crisis that serves lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, queer+ (LGBTQ+) teens and their allies with a welcoming and safe weekly meeting. Lighthouse encourages LGBTQ+ youth to live their best\, healthiest\, and most authentic lives.  Lighthouse empowers LGBTQ+ youth to clarify issues\, gain skills and resiliency\, and envision and seek healthy\, productive\, and fulfilling adult lives. \nMeetings are held every Thursday at Comstock Community Center from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Fall Semester with Mark Schenker: A Survey of Literary Utopias (Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library online via Zoom as Mark Schenker takes us on a guided tour of several literary utopias and dystopias spanning several hundred years. \nEver since Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) created the word “utopia” in the early 16th century\, the double meaning of his coinage has informed centuries of Utopian literature in English. SUMMARY:Inland Wetlands Commission Regular Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Inland Wetlands Commission Regular Meeting is the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m. \nThe Inland Wetlands Commission was established to conserve\, protect\, supervise\, and regulate the wetlands and watercourses within the Town of Wilton.  The Commission is comprised of seven members who serve in three year terms. \nThe Commission is responsible for administering the Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Regulations for the Town. DESCRIPTION:Turn a holiday that’s traditionally orange into one that’s a bit more green! \nWilton Go Green is partnering with Ambler Farm to offer our first Pumpkin Compost Drop-Off! Visit the farm any time from dawn to dusk between November 1 and 5 to drop off your jack-o-lanterns\, pumpkins or gourds to be composted right here at the farm. Please note\, no paint\, glitter\, googly eyes or candles are compostable as they can contaminate the compost when processed. No other food scraps or other organic materials can be dropped off. \nPull into the main entrance at 257 Hurlbutt St. and head to the top of the driveway by the Red Barn. Look for signage for the Pumpkin Drop and you can drop your goods in the bins provided. \nWhy should you compost your pumpkins? \n1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins sent to incinerators and landfills annually in the U.S. \nDiverting this material from incineration cuts pollution generated by burning waste\, which negatively impacts public health. \nWhen left to decompose in the landfill\, that food waste produces methane gas\, a greenhouse gas that’s far more potent than carbon dioxide. \nPumpkins and gourds are 90% water and are full of nutrients. Composting the organic materials captures these nutrients and water\, creating a soil amendment to benefit our parks\, gardens and farms.

DESCRIPTION:Wilton Pride\, in collaboration with Lighthouse and Middlebrook PTA presents a peer-to-peer social support group for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies. \nMeetings are relaxed and social in nature. No bullying is ever allowed\, and everyone is given a chance to be heard in a safe and casual setting. Teens can drop in to share life experiences and feelings as well as to socialize\, enjoy snacks\, and share common bonds in Lighthouse’s confidential\, non-threatening environment. \nThis group is brought to Wilton by Lighthouse\, a program of Kids in Crisis that serves lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, queer+ (LGBTQ+) teens and their allies with a welcoming and safe weekly meeting. Lighthouse encourages LGBTQ+ youth to live their best\, healthiest\, and most authentic lives.  Lighthouse empowers LGBTQ+ youth to clarify issues\, gain skills and resiliency\, and envision and seek healthy\, productive\, and fulfilling adult lives. \nMeetings are held every Thursday at Comstock Community Center from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library online via Zoom as Mark Schenker takes us on a guided tour of several literary utopias and dystopias spanning several hundred years. \nEver since Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) created the word “utopia” in the early 16th century\, the double meaning of his coinage has informed centuries of Utopian literature in English. (The Greek outopia means “no place\,” while eutopia means “good place.”) Since More’s Utopia\, writers such as Jonathan Swift and Margaret Atwood have created imagined worlds that reveal the dystopian reality behind the utopian dream. \nAfter beginning with More’s masterpiece\, Schenker will survey other literary works from each of the past six centuries—books that engage the quest for societal perfection\, the limits of human aspiration\, and the various meanings of the old saying that “the perfect is the enemy of the good.” \nThe schedule for the series is below (please note that the sessions are not all on the same day of the week and also stretch from September to November):\nSept. 7 – Utopia\, Sir Thomas More\nSept. 14 – Gulliver’s Travels\, Jonathan Swift\nSept. 21 – Erewhon\, Samuel Butler\nSept. 28 – The Handmaid’s Tale\, Margaret Atwood\nOct. 3 – King Lear\, William Shakespeare\nOct. 10 – Station Eleven\, Emily St. John Mandel\nNov. 2 – Cloud Cuckoo Land\, Anthony Doerr. \nRegistration is required. SUMMARY:Make Your Own Autumn Lanterns
DESCRIPTION:The whole family is welcome to drop by our Craft Room in the Children’s Library at Wilton Library between 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for a community event centered around the end of daylight savings time and transition of the seasons. We’ll use leaves\, tissue paper and glue to turn ordinary jars into lanterns that can light up the darkness of the evening\, help us learn to embrace change\, and connect us to the cycles and rhythm of nature. \nNo registration is required.

Museum Educator Catherine Lipper will talk about various methods of preserving fruit\, and lead the group in making a mouth-watering batch of apple jelly! \nSuggested for ages 6-10.
