SUMMARY:Inland Wetlands Commission Regular Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Inland Wetlands Commission Regular Meeting is the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m. \nThe Inland Wetlands Commission was established to conserve\, protect\, supervise\, and regulate the wetlands and watercourses within the Town of Wilton.  The Commission is comprised of seven members who serve in three year terms. \nThe Commission is responsible for administering the Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Regulations for the Town. SUMMARY:The Great Pumpkin Drop Off
DESCRIPTION:Turn a holiday that’s traditionally orange into one that’s a bit more green! \nWilton Go Green is partnering with Ambler Farm to offer our first Pumpkin Compost Drop-Off! Visit the farm any time from dawn to dusk between November 1 and 5 to drop off your jack-o-lanterns\, pumpkins or gourds to be composted right here at the farm. Please note\, no paint\, glitter\, googly eyes or candles are compostable as they can contaminate the compost when processed. No other food scraps or other organic materials can be dropped off. \nPull into the main entrance at 257 Hurlbutt St. and head to the top of the driveway by the Red Barn. Look for signage for the Pumpkin Drop and you can drop your goods in the bins provided. \nWhy should you compost your pumpkins? \n1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins sent to incinerators and landfills annually in the U.S. \nDiverting this material from incineration cuts pollution generated by burning waste\, which negatively impacts public health. \nWhen left to decompose in the landfill\, that food waste produces methane gas\, a greenhouse gas that’s far more potent than carbon dioxide. \nPumpkins and gourds are 90% water and are full of nutrients. Composting the organic materials captures these nutrients and water\, creating a soil amendment to benefit our parks\, gardens and farms.

DESCRIPTION:Wilton Pride\, in collaboration with Lighthouse and Middlebrook PTA presents a peer-to-peer social support group for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies. \nMeetings are relaxed and social in nature. No bullying is ever allowed\, and everyone is given a chance to be heard in a safe and casual setting. Teens can drop in to share life experiences and feelings as well as to socialize\, enjoy snacks\, and share common bonds in Lighthouse’s confidential\, non-threatening environment. \nThis group is brought to Wilton by Lighthouse\, a program of Kids in Crisis that serves lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, queer+ (LGBTQ+) teens and their allies with a welcoming and safe weekly meeting. Lighthouse encourages LGBTQ+ youth to live their best\, healthiest\, and most authentic lives.  Lighthouse empowers LGBTQ+ youth to clarify issues\, gain skills and resiliency\, and envision and seek healthy\, productive\, and fulfilling adult lives. \nMeetings are held every Thursday at Comstock Community Center from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Fall Semester with Mark Schenker: A Survey of Literary Utopias (Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library online via Zoom as Mark Schenker takes us on a guided tour of several literary utopias and dystopias spanning several hundred years. \nEver since Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) created the word “utopia” in the early 16th century\, the double meaning of his coinage has informed centuries of Utopian literature in English. (The Greek outopia means “no place\,” while eutopia means “good place.”) Since More’s Utopia\, writers such as Jonathan Swift and Margaret Atwood have created imagined worlds that reveal the dystopian reality behind the utopian dream. \nAfter beginning with More’s masterpiece\, Schenker will survey other literary works from each of the past six centuries—books that engage the quest for societal perfection\, the limits of human aspiration\, and the various meanings of the old saying that “the perfect is the enemy of the good.” \nThe schedule for the series is below (please note that the sessions are not all on the same day of the week and also stretch from September to November):\nSept. 7 – Utopia\, Sir Thomas More\nSept. 14 – Gulliver’s Travels\, Jonathan Swift\nSept. 21 – Erewhon\, Samuel Butler\nSept. 28 – The Handmaid’s Tale\, Margaret Atwood\nOct. 3 – King Lear\, William Shakespeare\nOct. 10 – Station Eleven\, Emily St. John Mandel\nNov. 2 – Cloud Cuckoo Land\, Anthony Doerr. \nRegistration is required. DESCRIPTION:Five area artists will be showcased in Wilton Library‘s November art exhibition entitled “Five Guys.” The artists are: Daniel Angeles (Danbury)\, Bill Fulton (Wilton)\, Ed MacEwen (Wilton)\, Norm Siegel (Norwalk)\, and Dennis Stevens (Norwalk). Their works represent a wide variety of styles\, media\, and subject matter. \nOpening reception on Friday\, November 3 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. is free and open to the public. Exhibition runs through November 30. A majority of the works will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library.

DESCRIPTION:Please join Wilton Library for another Sunday afternoon of chamber music in our Connecticut’s Own series. Wilton residents Ralph Kirmser (oboe) and Kyong Hee Cho (piano) will perform Fantasy Pieces by Carl Nielsen\, Three Romantic Pieces by Leopold Wallner\, as well as piano solos by Franz Liszt and Frederic Chopin. \nRalph Kirmser has been oboist for the Madera Winds Quintet for five years. Prior to that\, he was oboist for the Prevailing Winds of Connecticut and Morningside Wind Quintet of New York City. Dr. Kirmser is a cardiologist and practices in Norwalk. He is a resident of Wilton and has lived there with his wife Sally and their three children for over 40 years. \nKyong Hee Cho began her piano career in Korea at the age of four. She gave her first concert piano performance with the Seoul Symphony at the age of eleven. She attended the Manhattan School of Music as a merit scholar where she earned a BA and MA degree in piano performance. Kyong Hee has performed numerous solo concerts to benefit international medical and disaster relief. She teaches piano at her studio in Wilton. \nRegistration is strongly suggested. Roll Back the World is a heartbreaking story of love\, grief\, and guilt — and a testament to the enduring bonds of siblings in the face of ineffective psychiatric treatment spanning decades. \nIn clear and vivid prose\, and with the help of Rachel’s letters and poetry\, Kasdan provides a poignant look at a mid-century Jewish family under strain; offers a moving account of Rachel’s indomitable spirit; and explores family history from the WWII years and the Cold War\, trying to make sense of what happened. \nAs the years pass\, Kasdan focuses on her own family and career but constantly feels shadowed by a sense of guilt\, which is compounded when she and her other two siblings make a bold attempt to help Rachel—a plan that fails.
