DESCRIPTION:AJ Preisano\, Wilton resident and junior at Fairfield Prep\, is collecting used and new laptops and tablets for children on an Indian Reservation in Wyoming. \nFremont County School District #14  located in Ethete\, Wyoming on Wind River Reservation has been forced to close due to an 11% positivity rate of Covid-19. Students are all virtual and do not have the resources to learn online. \nPreisano\, who is heavily involved in charitable work at Prep\, is working with Full Court Peace\, a Norwalk-based organization that has separate outposts in Cuba\, the Dominican Republic\, and Wyoming. Its international wing\, “Full Court Peace Travel” sends resources to these locations to help bolster basketball leagues for kids. But now\, amidst an 11% infection rate on the Wind River Reservation\, the superintendent is seeking basic technology to help the at-home learning in the Indian community. \nCollection is ongoing and cash donations are welcome. \nIf you would like to purchase a new tablet to donate\, please see here. \nPlease email AJ Preisano for donation and shipping instructions.

DESCRIPTION:Judson Scruton will lead a 4-part series using selected poems from Nobel Prize-winner Louise Glück’s remarkable twelve books of poetry. Judson Scruton M.A (The Johns Hopkins University\, The Writing Seminars\, specializing in poetry) has taught creative writing and literature at prep schools and universities. In the words of the 2015 National Endowment for the Humanities award\, Glück’s works have given “lyrical expression to our inner conflicts. Her use of verse connects us to the myths of the ancients\, the magic of the natural world\, and the essence of who we are.” Poetry packets will be emailed in advance. No charge for the program. DESCRIPTION:In the 14th year of the collaboration between Wilton Library and the Wilton Historical Society\, this 5-part scholarly lecture series held virtually will focus on the theme of “Connecticut Creativity.” During this program\, Dr. Gil Harel (PhD\, Brandeis University) will discuss Danbury-born composer Charles Ives as a founder of a distinct American music idiom in the program\, “Charles Ives and the American Music Identity.” Charles Ives may very well be considered one of the most important American composers of the modern period. Gil Harel is a musicologist and music theorist whose interests include styles ranging from the western classical repertoire to jazz. The moderator is Max Gabrielson. Drive onto the Quaker Meeting House property at 317 New Canaan Rd (Rte 106) Wilton\, CT 06897 where volunteers will remove donations from your car. All volunteers will socially distance themselves and wear masks. The drive is to benefit Homes With Hope\, a four-star charity as designated by Charity Navigator. \nIn 2019\, Homes with Hope provided services to over 1\,200 individuals in Fairfield County through their community kitchen\, emergency shelters\, food pantry\, supportive housing\, rapid rehousing\, diversion programs\, and after school programs. SUMMARY:Wilton Library: Winter Poetry with Judson Scruton: Louise Glück’s Journey to the 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature
DESCRIPTION:Judson Scruton will lead a 4-part series using selected poems from Nobel Prize-winner Louise Glück’s remarkable twelve books of poetry. Judson Scruton M.A (The Johns Hopkins University\, The Writing Seminars\, specializing in poetry) has taught creative writing and literature at prep schools and universities. In the words of the 2015 National Endowment for the Humanities award\, Glück’s works have given “lyrical expression to our inner conflicts. Her use of verse connects us to the myths of the ancients\, the magic of the natural world\, and the essence of who we are.” Poetry packets will be emailed in advance. No charge for the program. This seminar is made possible with the support of the Literary Series in Memory of Amy Quigley. Register online in order to receive the readings and the Zoom session invitation links. DESCRIPTION:The Board of Finance exercises oversight of the Town of Wilton’s finances. The primary function of the Board of Finance is to recommend a budget and a mill rate to the Annual Town Meeting. The Board also has the power to designate the external auditor and to approve supplemental appropriations upon the request of the Board of Selectmen or the Board of Education.
